Industry Challenges Driving PMI-CP Demand in Kingston

    Contract and Claims Complexity

Kingston's housing, roads and tourism projects run on complex contracts, and weak administration drives variations, claims and disputes. PMI-CP's 50% Contracts Management focus is built to close this gap.

PMI-CP builds contract administration and claims skills

    Scaling for FAST Jamaica Megaprojects

FAST Jamaica fast-tracks investments of US$150m or more across energy, water and urban development, demanding portfolio-grade scope control, risk management and governance on large construction programmes.

PMI-CP builds scope, risk and governance skills

    Stakeholder and Regulatory Pressure

Corporate Area redevelopment and the Kingston Harbour Walk involve owners, regulators, utilities and communities. Managing this stakeholder web is exactly what PMI-CP's engagement domain develops.

    PMI-CP builds stakeholder engagement capability

    Shortage of Credentialed Construction Leaders

Jamaica has a deep pool of site and trades talent but few holders of a globally recognised construction project credential. PMI-CP's specialist status makes certified professionals rare and valued.

PMI-CP makes certified construction managers stand out

Cost and Value Protection on Capital Builds

With a real estate market heading past US$105bn, owners expect tight control of scope, change orders and budget. PMI-CP equips managers to protect value across the full construction lifecycle.

PMI-CP builds scope and change-order discipline

    Weather and Resilience Demands

Storm recovery and sea-wall works in the Corporate Area put resilience at the centre of delivery. Managing risk, schedule and quality on these builds calls for the governance discipline PMI-CP develops.

    After PMI-CP

    Before

Stuck at site level with no formal project management mandate

    Now you have

A clear route into construction project manager, contracts manager and director roles

    Now you have

A globally recognised credential that travels across sectors and construction markets

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

PMI-CP is PMI's specialist construction certification for professionals who deliver construction projects. It validates your ability to manage contracts, stakeholders, scope and governance, and suits construction project managers, quantity surveyors, site managers and owner's representatives with construction experience.

    General

What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

PMI-CP is PMI's specialist construction certification for professionals who deliver construction projects. It validates your ability to manage contracts, stakeholders, scope and governance, and suits construction project managers, quantity surveyors, site managers and owner's representatives with construction experience.

Is PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in Kingston?

Yes. With Kingston's housing, tourism and infrastructure pipeline expanding through FAST Jamaica and UDC programmes, employers increasingly value a globally recognised construction credential. PMI-CP maps to senior roles where construction project managers in Jamaica average around J$3.2M per year.

Why choose Invensis Learning for PMI-CP training in Kingston?

Invensis Learning is a PMI Authorized Training Partner offering PMI-aligned courseware, trainers with real construction expertise, flexible delivery, and guidance on the four mandatory PMI-CP modules and the exam application, helping you move from learning to certification with a clear path.

    Is PMP required before PMI-CP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two are complementary, though: PMP validates broad project management while PMI-CP validates construction-specific expertise, and many professionals pursue both.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

PMI-CP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle, with at least 8 PDUs in each of Ways of Working, Power Skills and Business Acumen, within each three-year cycle through PMI's CCR programme.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-CP training cost in Kingston?

Training fees vary by format, such as live virtual, classroom or corporate group, and are quoted locally. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI in USD under regional pricing and is not part of the training fee. Request a quote for current Kingston pricing.

What is included in the PMI-CP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware mapped to the four exam domains, practice questions, mock exams, downloadable templates, guidance on the four mandatory modules and the application, learner support, and a course completion certificate with contact hours. Talk to a learning advisor for specifics.

How much is the PMI-CP exam fee?

PMI bills the exam separately in USD under regional pricing. For reference, published rates are around USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members; verify current figures on pmi.org before applying, as PMI updates pricing periodically. Membership can reduce the exam cost.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for construction teams, PMOs and leadership groups in Kingston and across Jamaica. Contact us for a tailored quote.

    What payment options are available?

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats, based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the current edition of the PMBOK Guide. It is delivered online proctored via Pearson VUE OnVUE or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and a total allotted time of 230 minutes, which is 3 hours and 50 minutes. It covers four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%).

What are the eligibility requirements for PMI-CP?

You must complete all four mandatory self-paced PMI-CP modules and meet one experience set: Set A needs a secondary diploma plus 60 months of construction PM experience; Set B a bachelor's degree plus 36 months; Set C a GAC-accredited degree plus 24 months. All sets require 35 contact hours of PM education.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score rather than a fixed percentage. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

What if I do not pass the PMI-CP exam first time?

You get up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility window from application approval. Our training, practice questions and mock exams are built to prepare you thoroughly; re-examination fees apply to later attempts, so confirm current amounts on pmi.org.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The training covers the four PMI-CP domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%), including contract administration, variations, claims, stakeholder engagement, scope, schedule, risk and governance.

Can I take this course if I am moving from site work into project management?

Yes. The programme suits experienced construction professionals stepping up from site engineering or site management into project management. It builds the contract, stakeholder and governance knowledge you need, with practical examples and guidance on documenting your experience for the PMI application.

What are the four mandatory PMI-CP modules?

Before applying, you complete four self-paced PMI-CP modules in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each is a 6 to 10 hour commitment awarding 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total that also count toward renewal.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and mock exams aligned to the 120-question, 230-minute PMI-CP format, plus topic-wise quizzes, so you can identify weak areas across the four domains and build exam readiness.

Does this training satisfy the PMI-CP education prerequisite?

The instructor-led programme provides 32 contact hours, which is close to but below the 35 contact hours of PM education required across all eligibility sets. Check with our team on whether supplementary self-study or pre-reading is credited toward the 35-hour requirement.
