What Is Value Stream Mapping?UntitledA Core Lean Tool for Greek Operations

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a Lean technique for drawing the end-to-end flow of materials and information needed to deliver a product or service, so you can see waste and improve it. Value Stream Mapping training in Greece gives operations professionals a practical, hands-on way to build this skill in a single day. The method comes from the Toyota Production System and was popularised for wider industry by Mike Rother and John Shook in their guide Learning to See (1998). It uses a shared set of standard symbols, the eight wastes of Lean (DOWNTIME) and takt time to turn a complex operation into one clear picture. There is no exam and no governing body; this is a skills course, and you leave able to map real value streams straight away. It suits Lean practitioners, operations and production managers, engineers and supply chain professionals across Greek manufacturing, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals and logistics. As Greek industry modernises under Greece 2.0 and Greece 4.0, teams that can visualise and streamline flow are in growing demand. Start your VSM journey with Invensis Learning.

Why VSM Skills Pay off at WorkFor You and Your Team

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

Value Stream Mapping gives you a practical Lean skill you can use the very next day at work. In one hands-on day you learn to make the flow of materials and information visible, expose the waste hiding between process steps, and design a leaner way of working. It suits operations and production managers, Lean practitioners, engineers and supply chain professionals who want to improve end-to-end flow rather than optimise one step in isolation.

Whether you work in food and beverage, metals, pharmaceuticals or logistics, VSM helps you connect daily operations to real improvement. You finish able to map a value stream, quantify the gains, and lead the change with confidence.

    • Spot waste and bottlenecks across an end-to-end process, not just one department
    • Draw current-state and future-state value stream maps using standard Lean symbols
    • Calculate takt time, lead time and value-added ratio to size improvement opportunities
    • Turn a future-state vision into a costed, sequenced implementation and Kaizen plan

Market Forces Driving Lean Improvement in Greece

    Waste Hidden in High-Volume Lines

Food and beverage dominates Greek manufacturing at 36% of sold production. Overproduction, inventory and waiting hide between process steps, and VSM brings them into one clear view.

    VSM makes hidden waste visible

    Modernising Before Automating

Greece 4.0 is pushing smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 adoption. Mapping the current state before investing prevents firms from automating waste instead of removing it.

VSM maps the current state first

    Pressure on Capital and Inventory

Capital discipline after the recovery period demands leaner operations. Value stream mapping targets excess work-in-progress and long lead times that tie up cash.

VSM builds flow and inventory discipline

    Longer Lead Times Than Rivals

Greek metals and pharmaceutical exporters compete across the EU on speed and reliability. A future-state map shortens lead time and smooths flow to protect that edge.

    VSM shortens end-to-end lead time

    Flow Blind Spots in SMEs

Many Greek SMEs manage each department in isolation and never see the whole flow. A single value stream map exposes the handoffs where value quietly leaks away.

    VSM gives SMEs end-to-end visibility

    Shortage of Lean Facilitators

Operational excellence talent is scarce across Greek industry. People who can facilitate a mapping session and turn it into an action plan are hard to find and in demand.

    VSM builds in-house facilitation skill

Sources: Hellenic Production; European Commission and Greece 4.0 (Greece 2.0); SalaryExpert / ERI (Greece) 2026.

Value Stream Mapping turns these pressures into a clear plan. Build the skill to see waste, streamline flow and lead improvement in your Greek operation. Start today.

    Your Greek Lean Career Shift

Your Operations Before and After VSM

    A Practical Lean Transformation

Greek industry is modernising fast under Greece 2.0 and Greece 4.0, and employers increasingly want people who can make operations leaner, not just busier. Here is the shift Value Stream Mapping gives you.

The VSM Skills You Will BuildFrom Current State to Future State

Value Stream Mapping training teaches you to see, analyse and redesign the end-to-end flow of any operation. Across a hands-on day you build six practical capabilities, from drawing your first current-state map to planning the improvements that make the future state real.

    Read a Value Stream

Define value from the customer's view and tell value-adding, non-value-adding and necessary activities apart, using the five Lean principles and the eight wastes (DOWNTIME) to frame every process.

    Draw a Current-State Map

Select a product family, walk the process on a Gemba walk, and capture cycle time, changeover, uptime and inventory with standard VSM symbols to show how work really flows today.

    Analyse Waste and Bottlenecks

Find the constraint, calculate takt time, and spot where material is pushed rather than pulled, so you can rank improvement opportunities by real impact instead of guesswork.

    Design a Future-State Map

Apply the eight future-state questions to build continuous flow, pull systems and levelled scheduling, then mark Kaizen bursts where the biggest gains sit.

    Plan the Implementation

Turn the future-state map into a sequenced roadmap of workstreams and Kaizen events, with baseline metrics and clear owners so improvement actually happens.

    Sustain the Gains

Lock in results with standard work, daily management and a repeating VSM cycle, embedding continuous improvement rather than settling for a one-off fix.

    General

What is Value Stream Mapping and what is it used for?

Value stream mapping is a Lean technique for drawing the end-to-end flow of materials and information in an operation, so teams can see waste and improve it. It is used across manufacturing, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, logistics and services to shorten lead time and streamline flow.

    Is this a certification course?

No. This is a practical, non-certification skills course, so there is no exam and no governing body. You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning and, more importantly, a skill you can apply at work straight away.

Where does Value Stream Mapping come from?

VSM grew out of the Toyota Production System and was popularised for wider industry by Mike Rother and John Shook in their 1998 guide Learning to See. It uses a shared set of standard symbols so teams everywhere can read the same map.

Who should attend VSM training in Greece?

It suits Lean practitioners, operations and production managers, process and industrial engineers, supply chain and logistics professionals, and anyone responsible for improving end-to-end flow in Greek manufacturing, healthcare or services.

Is Value Stream Mapping worth learning for my career in Greece?

Yes. As Greek industry modernises under Greece 2.0 and Greece 4.0, employers increasingly want people who can cut waste and streamline flow. VSM is a core Lean skill valued in roles from process engineer to operations and production manager.

    Pricing

How much does Value Stream Mapping training cost in Greece?

Fees depend on the delivery format (live virtual, classroom or onsite) and group size, so pricing is available on request in euros. Request a quote and a learning advisor will share the options that fit you or your team.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all VSM modules, hands-on current and future-state mapping exercises, course materials, and a course completion certificate. Contact us for the exact inclusions of your chosen format.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer group and corporate rates for teams, with schedules built around your availability. Ask about corporate pricing for a tailored quote for your organisation in Greece.

Is the training available online as well as in a classroom?

Yes. You can join online (live virtual) instructor-led sessions, attend classroom training, or book onsite delivery for a team. Many learners choose to take the Value Stream Mapping course online for its flexibility. Talk to a learning advisor to choose the format that suits you best.

How do I get a price for my team?

Share your team size, preferred format and location, and we will prepare a group quote. Request a quote through the enquiry form and an advisor will follow up with options.

    Assessment

Is there an exam at the end of the course?

No. There is no exam. Learning is reinforced through hands-on mapping exercises and group discussion during the programme, so you practise the skill rather than sit a test.

Do I receive a certificate after the training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. This is a skills course, so it is not a formal certification from an awarding body, but it confirms you have completed practical VSM training.

How is my learning checked during the course?

Your understanding is built and checked through practical activities: you create both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic scenario, with trainer feedback and team discussion throughout the day.

Do I need prior Lean knowledge to attend?

No prior Lean knowledge is required. There are no prerequisites. Some familiarity with Lean ideas such as waste and flow is helpful, but the course introduces every concept it uses in the context of mapping.

What will I be able to do after completing the training?

You will be able to select a product family, walk and map a current state, identify waste and the bottleneck, design a future-state map, and build an implementation and Kaizen plan to reach it.

    Course Content

What topics does the VSM course cover?

The course covers Lean foundations and the eight wastes, standard VSM symbols, creating and analysing the current-state map, calculating takt time, designing the future-state map, and planning and sustaining the improvement.

    How long is the training?

The programme runs as one day of eight hours. It can also be delivered as two half-days totalling the same eight hours, covering all VSM modules with hands-on mapping exercises throughout.

Does the course include hands-on mapping practice?

Yes. You practise throughout the day, creating both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic operational scenario, so you leave able to apply the method to your own value stream.

Which VSM symbols and concepts are taught?

You learn the standard VSM symbol set (process boxes, material and information flow, inventory triangles, kanban and Kaizen bursts) plus key concepts such as takt time, cycle time, push versus pull and the eight wastes.

Is the content relevant beyond manufacturing?

Yes. While VSM began on the shop floor, the same method applies to healthcare pathways, logistics, financial services and IT delivery. The course frames the technique so you can map flow in any operational setting.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in VSM training in Greece?

Choose your preferred format on the Invensis Learning website and complete your booking, or contact a learning advisor to enrol. You will then receive schedule details, materials and joining information.

    What training formats are available?

We offer online (live virtual) instructor-led training, classroom sessions, and onsite corporate delivery for teams. Pick the format that fits your schedule and learning preference.

Can you deliver the training onsite for our team in Greece?

Yes. We run onsite and in-house corporate sessions across Greece, which work especially well because your team can map one of your own value streams during the day. Ask about corporate group training.

    Can I reschedule my booking?

Yes. Flexible rescheduling options let you move to another session if your plans change. Contact our support team and they will arrange a suitable date for you.

    How soon can I start?

Public sessions run on a regular schedule, and corporate dates are arranged to suit your team. Talk to a learning advisor or view upcoming schedules to find the earliest option that works for you.
