What if I do not pass the PfMP exam the first time?

What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario-based questions across five performance domains and is delivered via Pearson VUE online proctoring or a test centre.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The PfMP exam has 170 questions and a four-hour (240-minute) time limit. Questions are distributed across the five portfolio management performance domains defined in the ECO.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is set through psychometric analysis, with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so focus on broad mastery across all five domains.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented portfolio experience and competency. It is a mandatory step alongside the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

What topics are covered in PfMP training?

The training covers the five PfMP performance domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%), plus application and panel-review preparation and exam strategy.

Which standard is the PfMP course based on?

The course is aligned to PMI's Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PfMP Examination Content Outline. This keeps your preparation matched to what the 4th edition and the exam actually assess.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions, full-length mock exams, an exam simulator and topic-wise quizzes mapped to the five domains, helping you identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Do I need prior experience to take the training?

Anyone can attend the training, but the PfMP exam is a senior credential. To sit it, PMI requires extensive business and portfolio management experience within the last 15 years, which the training helps you document and prepare for.

Will I receive a certificate of completion?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the contact hours (PDUs) earned through the programme.
