Industry Pressures Driving Demand for Lean Flow Skills

    Localising Production at Speed

As firms substitute imports and stand up CKD assembly lines, new local operations need efficient flow fast. Value stream mapping exposes the waste that slows a young production line.

VSM builds current-state and future-state mapping skills

    Low Equipment Effectiveness

Many Algerian plants run below their potential output. Mapping reveals the bottleneck, downtime and imbalance between cycle time and takt time so teams can lift throughput.

VSM builds bottleneck and flow analysis skills

    Excess Inventory and Tied-Up Cash

Buffer stock and work in progress lock up working capital across food and industrial supply chains. A value stream map makes overproduction and inventory impossible to miss.

VSM makes overproduction and WIP visible

    Long Lead Times to Customers

Batch processing and fragmented flow stretch delivery times. Designing a future state with continuous flow and pull systems shortens end-to-end lead time and improves reliability.

VSM builds future-state flow design skills

    Scarce Lean Facilitation Skills

Algeria has strong factory-floor talent but few people who can facilitate a mapping session. Training builds the in-house facilitators improvement programmes depend on.

VSM training closes the facilitation gap

    Siloed Cross-Function Working

Operations, quality and logistics often improve in isolation. A shared value stream map gives every function one view and one prioritised plan to act on together.

The Practical Skills You Will Walk Away WithFrom Current-State Mapping to Implementation Planning

This training builds real capability, not just theory. Through hands-on exercises you create both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic scenario, so by the end you can diagnose waste and design better flow in your own operation.

    See Value and Waste Clearly

Skills covered in value stream mapping start here: apply the five Lean principles, separate value-added from non-value-added activity, and spot the eight wastes of Lean (DOWNTIME) across a process so you know exactly what to improve.

    Map with Standard VSM Symbols

Use the standard VSM symbol set to represent process boxes, material and information flow, inventory triangles, kanban and data boxes, so any team can read and trust your map.

    Build an Accurate Current-State Map

Select a product family, walk the value stream on a Gemba walk, and capture real data such as cycle time, changeover time, uptime and inventory to draw a current state that reflects how work actually flows.

Analyse Flow and Find the Bottleneck

Calculate takt time, compare push and pull, and locate the constraint that limits output, then prioritise the highest-impact improvement opportunities with Kaizen burst markers.

    Design a Leaner Future State

Work through the eight future-state design questions to introduce continuous flow, pull systems and supermarkets, and level production so the value stream runs faster with less inventory.

Turn Maps into an Improvement Plan

Translate a future-state map into a sequenced implementation roadmap, plan Kaizen events, set metrics from your baseline, and standardise gains so improvement sticks.

Finally the Language to Explain Waste

"As a production supervisor I knew where things slowed down but could not explain why. Learning takt time and the eight wastes gave me the language to show my team exactly where inventory and waiting were costing us."

One Shared Roadmap for the Whole Plant

"We ran the training onsite for our operations and quality teams. Mapping a real value stream together broke down the silos, and we left with one shared improvement roadmap instead of a dozen competing ideas. Strong return for a one-day investment."

    General

What is value stream mapping and who is this course for?

Value stream mapping is a Lean technique for visualising, analysing and improving the end-to-end flow of materials and information that delivers a product or service to the customer. This one-day course suits operations and manufacturing managers, engineers, Lean practitioners, supply chain professionals and anyone who wants to see and eliminate waste in a process.

Where does value stream mapping come from?

It is rooted in the Toyota Production System and was made accessible to practitioners by Mike Rother and John Shook in their 1998 book Learning to See. The course teaches this established Lean method, including the five Lean principles and the eight wastes of Lean (DOWNTIME).

Is value stream mapping worth learning for professionals in Algeria?

Yes. As Algerian manufacturers localise production and modernise operations, employers value people who can map and improve flow. The skill applies across automotive, food, energy, construction materials and logistics, and it produces visible results you can apply at work straight away.

Do I need prior Lean experience to attend?

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Some familiarity with Lean ideas is helpful but not required, as the course introduces every concept you need in the context of mapping. It is open to professionals from any function or industry.

What do I receive after completing the training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. This is a practical, non-certification skills course, so there is no exam or formal credential; the value is the mapping capability you can use immediately in your role.

    Pricing

How much does value stream mapping training cost in Algeria?

Pricing varies by delivery format and group size, so the fee is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a current quote for individual or corporate training and to see upcoming schedules.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all six modules, hands-on current-state and future-state mapping exercises, learning materials, and a course completion record. Ask us about the exact inclusions for your chosen format.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer tailored group and corporate pricing for teams, with delivery onsite or live online and schedules built around your operation. Request a group quote and we will scope it to your needs.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

Is the training good value for money?

A single day of training gives your team a tool that reduces lead time, inventory and waste, benefits that compound on the shop floor. Many organisations see quick wins from the first mapping exercise. Ask about group pricing to maximise the return.

    Assessment

How is learning assessed during the training?

There is no formal assessment. Learning is reinforced through hands-on mapping exercises and group discussion throughout the day, so you practise the method as you learn it rather than sitting a test.

Will I get hands-on practice building maps?

Yes. You create both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic operational scenario during the programme, which is the core of how the course builds practical skill.

What method and standards does the course follow?

The course follows established Lean thinking and the value stream mapping approach set out in Learning to See, using the standard VSM symbol set, the five Lean principles, and the eight wastes of Lean (DOWNTIME).

How long is the training and what is the format?

The programme runs for one day (eight hours) covering all six modules. It is available as live online instructor-led training, classroom training, and onsite corporate delivery. A half-day over two days format is also possible.

What will I be able to do after the course?

You will be able to select a product family, walk a value stream, capture process data, draw a current-state map, identify waste and the bottleneck, design a future-state map, and build an implementation plan with a Kaizen event schedule.

    Course Content

What topics does the value stream mapping course cover?

The course covers six modules: Lean foundations and VSM, standard VSM symbols, creating the current-state map, analysing it, designing the future-state map, and implementation planning. Each is reinforced with hands-on mapping practice.

What are the eight wastes I will learn to spot?

You learn the eight wastes of Lean, remembered as DOWNTIME: Defects, Overproduction, Waiting, Non-utilised talent, Transportation, Inventory, Motion and Extra processing. The course shows how a value stream map reveals each one.

Does the course cover both current and future-state maps?

Yes. You learn to build an accurate current-state map of how work flows today, analyse it for waste and bottlenecks, then design a future-state map that shows the leaner target state and the improvements to get there.

Will I learn the standard VSM symbols?

Yes. The course teaches the full standard symbol set, including process boxes, material and information flow arrows, inventory triangles, kanban symbols, data boxes and the Kaizen burst, so your maps are consistent and easy to share.

Are the concepts relevant beyond manufacturing?

Yes. While value stream mapping began on the factory floor, the same method applies to healthcare, logistics, financial services, IT and service operations. Any process with an end-to-end flow can be mapped and improved.

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete your booking, and you will receive access to schedules and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you would like help choosing a format.

    What training formats are available?

We offer live online instructor-led training, classroom training, and customised onsite corporate delivery, so you can choose the option that fits your schedule and your team.

Can my team be trained together onsite?

Yes. Onsite and group delivery is ideal because your team can map a real value stream from your own operation during the session. Request a group quote and we will tailor the programme to your sector.

    Can I reschedule my session?
