What Is Design for Six Sigma and What Does It Deliver?UntitledBuilding Quality in from Day One

The Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Training in Costa Rica is a practical, one-day skills course that teaches you to design new products, services and processes that reach Six Sigma quality from the very start. Unlike DMAIC, which fixes processes that already exist, DFSS builds quality in before launch using the DMADV roadmap: Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify. Across the day you work through the core DFSS toolkit, from capturing the voice of the customer and the Kano model, to translating needs into measurable CTQs with Quality Function Deployment, Pugh concept selection, Design FMEA, robust design and design verification. Hands-on exercises use realistic design scenarios so you can apply each tool straight away. This is a non-certification programme with no exam and no external awarding body; you receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. The real value is methods you can use the next day across Costa Rica's medical device, life sciences and advanced manufacturing employers, where design controls under ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485 make these skills genuinely sought after.

What You Gain from DFSS SkillsValue for Engineers and Employers Alike

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

Design for Six Sigma training helps engineers and R&D professionals design quality into new products and processes from the outset, instead of chasing defects after launch. It suits design and process engineers, R&D scientists, NPD project managers, quality engineers and Six Sigma practitioners who want the design side of Six Sigma. Whether you are moving from DMAIC improvement work into new product development, or you design medical devices, electronics or industrial equipment in Costa Rica's free-zone employers, the programme builds capability you can apply immediately.

If you want to shorten design cycles, reduce warranty and rework costs, and design products that meet customer requirements first time, DFSS gives you a structured, repeatable method that engineering training rarely covers.

    • Design products and processes that hit quality targets before they ever reach production
    • Apply the full DMADV roadmap to real new-product and process design projects
    • Turn customer needs into measurable CTQs using QFD and the House of Quality
    • Cut costly late redesigns by catching failure modes early with Design FMEA

Design for Six Sigma group training helps organisations design quality into new products and processes from the start, equipping engineering and R&D teams with the DMADV methodology and core DFSS tools. It can be delivered for design centres, quality functions or whole new-product-development teams. For manufacturers and life sciences firms that want to reduce design-driven defects and speed up new product introduction, this training provides a scalable, practical solution.

If your teams keep fixing the same design problems after launch, DFSS gives them a preventive method. Engineers learn to capture customer needs, flow them down to measurable CTQs, and verify the design before it reaches production.

    • Fewer late design changes and lower warranty and rework costs across new product lines
    • A shared DMADV language and toolkit across engineering, quality and manufacturing teams
    • Stronger design controls that support ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485 requirements

Yes. Costa Rica's medical device and advanced manufacturing employers are moving into R&D and design, so engineers who can design quality in from the start are in demand. DFSS gives you a structured, immediately usable method for roles such as design, R&D, process and quality engineering.

DMAIC improves existing processes that are underperforming, while DFSS designs new products, services and processes so they meet requirements from the outset. DFSS uses the DMADV roadmap: Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify. This course covers DFSS and DMADV.

The course suits design and process engineers, R&D professionals, new product development managers, quality engineers, and Six Sigma Green and Black Belts who want to add the design side of Six Sigma. It is open to anyone designing new products, services or processes.

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Familiarity with basic Six Sigma ideas such as CTQ and variation is helpful but not required, as the course introduces all DFSS tools and the DMADV methodology from first principles.

    General

What is Design for Six Sigma training?

Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) training is a one-day, non-certification course that teaches you to design new products, services and processes that meet customer requirements and reach Six Sigma quality from the start. It covers the DMADV roadmap and core tools such as VOC, QFD, DFMEA and robust design.

Is Design for Six Sigma worth it for professionals in Costa Rica?

Yes. Costa Rica's medical device and advanced manufacturing employers are moving into R&D and design, so engineers who can design quality in from the start are in demand. DFSS gives you a structured, immediately usable method for roles such as design, R&D, process and quality engineering.

What is the difference between DFSS and DMAIC?

DMAIC improves existing processes that are underperforming, while DFSS designs new products, services and processes so they meet requirements from the outset. DFSS uses the DMADV roadmap: Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify. This course covers DFSS and DMADV.

    Who should attend this training?

The course suits design and process engineers, R&D professionals, new product development managers, quality engineers, and Six Sigma Green and Black Belts who want to add the design side of Six Sigma. It is open to anyone designing new products, services or processes.

Do I need prior Six Sigma knowledge?

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Familiarity with basic Six Sigma ideas such as CTQ and variation is helpful but not required, as the course introduces all DFSS tools and the DMADV methodology from first principles.

    Pricing

How much does Design for Six Sigma training cost in Costa Rica?

Fees vary by delivery format, group size and whether you book a public or corporate session, so pricing is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a current quote and upcoming batches.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all six DMADV phases, hands-on DFSS tool exercises, course materials and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Request a quote to confirm what is included in your chosen format.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer customised corporate training with group pricing for engineering, R&D and quality teams, delivered on-site or live online. Ask about corporate and group pricing for your team.

Are there payment or instalment options?

We accept major cards and bank transfers, and instalment options are available on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

Is there a separate certification exam fee?

No. This is a non-certification course with no exam, so there is no separate examination fee. You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning on finishing the programme.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for this course?

No. Design for Six Sigma training is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on DFSS tool exercises, case examples and discussion during the one-day programme.

Do I receive a certificate after the training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. No formal certification or external credential is awarded, as DFSS training has no governing awarding body; the value is the practical skills you can apply straight away.

    How is my learning assessed?

There is no formal assessment. You apply the DMADV tools, including VOC to CTQ flow-down, QFD, the Pugh matrix and Design FMEA, to realistic design scenarios during the exercises, so you practise each method as you learn it.

Is this an accredited or governing-body certification?

No. Design for Six Sigma is a vendor-neutral methodology with no single governing body or accreditation for the training. This course builds practical capability in the DFSS method and its tools rather than preparing you for a credential.

What will I be able to do after the course?

You will be able to run a DMADV design project, capture and classify the voice of the customer, flow requirements down to CTQs with QFD, select concepts with the Pugh matrix, run a Design FMEA, apply robust design, and plan design verification and validation.

    Course Content

What topics does the training cover?

The course covers the full DMADV roadmap: DFSS foundations and the DFSS versus DMAIC distinction, Define (VOC and Kano), Measure (CTQ flow-down and QFD), Analyse (concept selection and DFMEA), Design (robust design, P-diagram and DFMA) and Verify (design verification, validation and transfer).

What DFSS tools will I learn to use?

You will work with the voice of the customer and Kano model, CTQ flow-down, Quality Function Deployment, the Pugh concept selection matrix, Design FMEA, the P-diagram and robust design, and design verification and validation methods, all through hands-on exercises.

    How long is the training?

The programme runs for one day, around eight hours, and can also be delivered as two half-days. It covers all six DMADV phases with concept explanations, real design case examples and practical tool exercises throughout.

    Are there practical exercises?

Yes. You apply key DFSS tools, including VOC to CTQ flow-down, a QFD House of Quality, a Pugh selection matrix and a Design FMEA worksheet, to realistic product and process design scenarios so the methods stick.

Do I need an engineering background?

An engineering or design background helps, but it is not essential. The course is built for anyone involved in designing new products, services or processes, and it introduces each DFSS tool and the DMADV method from the ground up.
