Why Earning the PMI-CP Pays off in ColombiaReal Gains for Your Construction Career

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

PMI-CP training helps construction professionals turn on-site delivery experience into a recognised credential. It suits project managers, site and project engineers, owner's representatives and PMO professionals working on building, civil, infrastructure and energy projects across Colombia. Whether you are formalising your project authority, moving up from site engineering, or specialising beyond a general project management background, this programme builds the construction-specific capability that senior roles expect.

If you want to lead complex construction projects and stand out in a competitive market, PMI-CP is a clear step forward. You gain contract and governance fluency, exam preparation, and a supported path from learning to certification that Colombian and international employers respect.

Teams gain a standardised approach to delivering construction projects on time, on budget and to quality.

    • Builds consistent construction project delivery practice across teams

    • Standardises stakeholder, owner and regulator engagement on major projects

Industry Challenges Driving PMI-CP Demand in Colombia

    Contract and Claims Exposure

Colombia's 5G concessions and PPP projects are contract-heavy, where delay, variation and disruption claims drive cost and schedule risk, the exact skills PMI-CP puts at the centre of its exam.

PMI-CP builds contract and claims mastery

    Mega-Project Complexity

The Bogota Metro, Regiotram and airport expansions demand portfolio-grade coordination, stakeholder alignment and governance across many contractors and authorities at once.

PMI-CP builds governance and coordination skills

    Construction Credential Gap

Colombia has a deep pool of site and project engineers but few professionals with a construction-specific credential, making PMI-CP holders rare and sought-after by owners and contractors.

PMI-CP makes construction leaders stand out

    Cost and Schedule Overruns

Scope creep and uncontrolled change orders erode margins on building and infrastructure projects, so employers now hire leaders who can baseline scope and govern change rigorously.

PMI-CP builds scope and change control

    Owner and Regulator Pressure

Public-private projects answer to owners, financiers, regulators and communities at once, raising demand for managers who can engage every stakeholder and keep approvals on track.

    PMI-CP builds stakeholder engagement skills

    Energy and Infrastructure Buildout

Ecopetrol, ISA and transport programmes are scaling capital projects, pushing organisations to strengthen construction-specific delivery and risk management across the portfolio.

    General

Is the PMI-CP certification worth it for construction professionals in Colombia?

Yes. PMI-CP proves construction-specific project management skill that Colombian employers on 5G road concessions, the Bogota Metro, airport expansions and energy projects increasingly look for. It maps you to senior roles such as construction project manager, contracts manager and project director, where median pay reaches around COP 103M and higher.

What is the PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP)?

The PMI-CP is PMI's specialist credential for the construction industry. It validates your ability to apply project management in a construction environment across four domains: Contracts Management (50 per cent), Stakeholder Engagement (30 per cent), Strategy and Scope Management (15 per cent) and Project Governance (5 per cent).

    Who should take PMI-CP training?

It suits construction project managers, site and project engineers moving into project management, owner's representatives, construction programme managers and PMO professionals. It is ideal for anyone delivering building, civil, infrastructure or energy projects who wants a construction-specific credential.

Is the PMI-CP recognised in Colombia?

Yes. As a PMI credential, PMI-CP carries global recognition through PMI's network in over 200 countries. It is valued by Colombian contractors, concessionaires, developers and owner organisations that seek internationally recognised project management credentials on major construction programmes.

How is PMI-CP different from PMP?

PMP is a broad project management credential across all industries. PMI-CP is a specialist credential focused on construction, with its largest domain being Contracts Management. The two are complementary, and PMP is not required before PMI-CP.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

The PMI-CP is valid for three years from the date of certification. You maintain it by earning 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year cycle through PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements programme.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-CP training fee?

The training fee typically covers PMI-aligned courseware mapped to the ECO domains, scenario practice questions, mock assessments, guidance on the four prerequisite modules and the application, learner support and a course completion certificate with contact hours. The PMI exam fee is separate. Request a quote for current pricing.

How much does PMI-CP training cost in Colombia?

Training pricing varies by format and batch and is available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI in USD under regional pricing and is not part of the training fee. Talk to a learning advisor for a tailored quote.

How much is the PMI-CP exam fee?

PMI bills the exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing, with lower rates for PMI members than non-members. Fees are periodically updated, so confirm the current amount on pmi.org before you apply. PMI membership can reduce the exam cost.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for construction teams, PMOs and leadership groups. Contact us for a tailored quote for your organisation.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you and to see upcoming batches.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and a 230-minute (three hours 50 minutes) time allowance. It is closed book with multiple-choice formats, delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and weights?

Four domains per the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline: Contracts Management (50 per cent), Stakeholder Engagement (30 per cent), Strategy and Scope Management (15 per cent) and Project Governance (5 per cent). Contracts Management is the largest, reflecting the centrality of contracts in construction.

What are the prerequisites for the PMI-CP exam?

You must complete all four mandatory self-paced modules (56 PDUs total) and meet one experience set: a secondary diploma with 60 months of construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months, each within the past 10 years, plus 35 contact hours of PM education.

What if I do not pass the PMI-CP exam the first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility window from application approval. Our training includes scenario practice and mock questions across all four domains to build readiness and reduce the fear of a retake. Re-examination fees apply to further attempts.

How is the PMI-CP exam scored?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing standard rather than a fixed percentage. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback (Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement), so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The training covers the four ECO domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance. This includes contract types, administration, claims and disputes, owner and regulator engagement, scope and change control, scheduling, risk, quality and governance.

Can I take this training without a general project management background?

Yes. The programme is built for construction professionals and grounds each domain in real project situations. If you have construction delivery experience, you can follow the content; PMP is not required. We also guide you on the four prerequisite modules needed before applying.

Does the training include practice questions and mock exams?

Yes. The programme includes scenario-based practice questions and mock assessments mapped to the 120-question exam format, helping you identify weak areas across the four domains and build exam readiness.

Is the courseware aligned to the current PMI-CP standard?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the current PMBOK Guide, alongside construction industry practice, so you study the domains and tasks the exam actually tests.

Does this training meet the 35 contact hours requirement?

The instructor-led programme provides substantial contact hours of construction project management education. As the PMI-CP requires 35 contact hours, confirm with our team whether supplementary self-study is credited towards the requirement for your eligibility set.

    Enrollment

How soon can I start and how do I enrol?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website, choose your format, complete payment and receive access to schedules, courseware and resources. See upcoming batches or talk to a learning advisor to pick a start date that fits your project schedule.

Do I need to meet the eligibility requirements before enrolling in training?

No. Anyone can enrol in the training itself. The PMI-CP eligibility requirements, including the four prerequisite modules and experience, apply when you submit your exam application to PMI. Our team can guide you through the steps.

Can I reschedule or transfer to another batch?

Yes. Flexi options let you reschedule or transfer to another batch, and selected plans allow you to attend the training again. Contact our support team to arrange this.

We guide you on completing the four mandatory prerequisite modules, documenting your construction experience and education, and preparing your PMI-CP application. Reach out to a learning advisor to plan your route to the exam.
