What is the PMI-RMP certification and who is it for?

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management. It recognises expertise in identifying, assessing, responding to and monitoring project risks. How long is the PMI-RMP certification valid?

The RMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle, reported through PMI's CCR system.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-RMP exam?

The RMP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions, delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre. It is based on the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022.

How many questions are on the PMI-RMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 115 questions and you have 2.5 hours (150 minutes) to complete it. Questions are distributed across the five risk management domains defined in the January 2022 ECO.

What are the PMI-RMP exam domains and their weights?

There are five domains: Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%) and Monitor and Close Risks (15%), per the ECO effective January 2022.

What is the passing score for the PMI-RMP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback (Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement), so focus on broad mastery across all five domains.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-RMP?

There are three sets. Set A: a secondary diploma plus 36 months of risk experience within 5 years and 40 hours of risk education. Set B: a bachelor's degree plus 24 months and 30 hours. Set C: a GAC-accredited degree plus 12 months and 30 hours. Experience must be in project risk management.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to later attempts. Our trainer guidance and mock exams are designed to prepare you thoroughly for a first-time pass.
