Construction Demand Drivers Making PMI-CP Valuable in Hobart

    Pipeline Outpacing Delivery Talent

Tasmania's pipeline is nearing A$40 billion, but the state has too few certified construction project managers to lead it. PMI-CP is built to close that senior delivery gap.

    PMI-CP builds construction project leadership

    Complex Contracts and Claims Risk

Contracts Management is the largest PMI-CP domain at 50 percent. On Hobart projects, weak contract administration drives variations, claims and disputes that certified leaders are hired to control.

PMI-CP builds contracts and claims skills

    Major Water and Sewer Overhaul

The A$314 million Selfs Point Sewer transformation is the largest sewerage investment in Hobart's history, demanding tight scope, schedule and governance discipline across a multi-year build.

PMI-CP builds scope and governance skills

    Stakeholder-Heavy Precinct Projects

Macquarie Point and the Greater Hobart Plan bring owners, community, regulators and the public together, so construction leaders who can engage stakeholders and hold a social licence are in demand.

    PMI-CP builds stakeholder engagement skills

    Public Accountability on State Works

Government-funded highway, health and education works face strict oversight and reporting. PMI-CP's governance domain equips leaders to meet audit, compliance and performance expectations.

    PMI-CP builds project governance skills

    Capital Discipline and Value Delivery

Budget pressure across Tasmanian building and civil work pushes owners to protect value. Certified professionals who manage risk, cost and quality across the lifecycle stand out to employers.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

PMI-CP (PMI Construction Professional) is PMI's specialist credential for construction. It validates your ability to deliver complex projects across four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). It suits project managers, engineers and consultants.

    General

What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

PMI-CP (PMI Construction Professional) is PMI's specialist credential for construction. It validates your ability to deliver complex projects across four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). It suits project managers, engineers and consultants.

Is PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in Hobart?

Yes. With Tasmania's infrastructure pipeline nearing A$40 billion, employers are short of certified construction project leaders. PMI-CP positions you for senior delivery roles where construction project managers in Hobart average around A$130,000 and senior roles reach A$165,000 and beyond. Talk to a learning advisor about your goals.

What standard and edition is PMI-CP based on?

PMI-CP is based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO) and the PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition, together with construction industry-specific standards and practices. PMI, the governing body, sets the four domains and their weightings that the exam and this training follow.

Do I need a PMP before taking PMI-CP?

No. A PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two credentials are complementary, with PMP covering general project management and PMI-CP validating construction-specific expertise.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

PMI-CP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year cycle, with at least 8 PDUs in each area. The 56 PDUs from the four prerequisite modules can be applied toward renewal.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-CP training cost in Hobart?

PMI-CP training fees in Hobart are quoted in Australian dollars and vary by format and schedule, so the current price is available on request. The fee covers instruction, PMI-aligned courseware, practice resources and application guidance. Request a quote for individual or group pricing.

What is included in the PMI-CP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware across all four domains, practice questions, mock exams, downloadable templates, guidance on the four prerequisite modules and the PMI-CP application, and learner support with a course completion certificate. The PMI exam fee is separate.

Is the PMI-CP exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing, and PMI members pay a lower rate than non-members. PMI membership also reduces the fee and gives access to PMI resources. Confirm current exam and membership fees on pmi.org before applying.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts for PMI-CP training?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for construction and infrastructure teams across Hobart and Tasmania. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination with single-answer and multiple-answer questions, based on the PMI-CP ECO and the 8th edition of the PMBOK Guide. It is delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and an allotted time of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). Before applying, you must also complete the four mandatory self-paced modules, which together award 56 PDUs.

What are the four PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

The four domains are Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). The heavy weighting on contracts reflects how central contract administration and dispute management are to construction delivery.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score rather than a fixed percentage. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

What if I do not pass the PMI-CP exam the first time?

You have up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period from application approval. Reexamination fees apply to later attempts. Our practice questions, mock exams and trainer guidance are designed to help you prepare thoroughly for the first sitting.

    Course Content

What will I learn in PMI-CP training?

You will learn to manage construction contracts, variations and claims, engage owners, communities and regulators, control scope, schedule, budget, risk and quality, and establish project governance and reporting. The content maps directly to the four PMI-CP domains and real construction delivery.

What are the four mandatory prerequisite modules?

Before applying, all candidates complete four self-paced modules in any order, each a 6 to 10 hour commitment worth 14 PDUs: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Together they award 56 PDUs.

Do I need prior experience to take this training?

Anyone can enrol in the training. To sit the exam, PMI requires construction project management experience plus 35 contact hours of project management education, with the required months of experience depending on your qualification. We can help you check which eligibility set fits you.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest PMI-CP syllabus?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition, along with construction industry standards, so you prepare against the four domains exactly as PMI defines them.

Will I receive a certificate of completion after the training?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the contact hours earned. These contact hours support the project management education requirement for your PMI-CP application.

    Enrollment

What are the eligibility requirements for PMI-CP?

You must complete the four prerequisite modules and meet one of three sets: a secondary diploma with 60 months of construction experience, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months, each within the past 10 years, plus 35 contact hours of PM education.

How do I enrol in the PMI-CP course in Hobart?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. Contact a learning advisor if you would like help choosing a batch.
