Skills You Will Build in This Value Stream Mapping CourseFrom Current State to Future State

This Value Stream Mapping training builds the practical skills to map, analyse and improve any value stream. By the end of the one-day programme you can create current-state and future-state maps and plan the improvements to close the gap.

Map Lean Foundations and the Eight Wastes

Apply the five Lean principles and identify the eight wastes (DOWNTIME) in any process, distinguishing value-added, non-value-added and necessary non-value-added activity from the customer's point of view.

Use Standard VSM Symbols and Data Boxes

Read and draw the standard value stream mapping symbols for process, material and information flow, and capture cycle time, changeover, uptime and inventory in accurate data boxes.

    Build an Accurate Current-State Map

Select a product family, walk the value stream on a Gemba walk, and map from customer to supplier, recording inventory and completing the timeline to reveal total lead time versus value-added time.

    Analyse Waste, Bottlenecks and Flow

Interpret the current-state map to find the bottleneck, calculate takt time, spot push versus pull problems and prioritise the highest-impact improvement opportunities with Kaizen bursts.

    Design a Leaner Future-State Map

Apply the eight future-state questions to design continuous flow, pull systems and levelled scheduling, then quantify the improvement in lead time, inventory and cycle-time alignment.

Turn Maps into an Implementation Plan

Translate the future-state vision into a Kaizen event schedule and implementation roadmap, set baseline metrics, and use standard work to sustain the gains over time.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Value Stream Mapping training is a one-day, non-certification Lean course that teaches you to visualise, analyse and improve the end-to-end flow of materials and information that delivers a product or service. You learn to build current-state and future-state maps and plan practical improvements, and it suits professionals across Austria's manufacturing and service sectors.

Yes. VSM is one of the most widely used Lean tools, and Austrian employers in automotive, metals, machinery and life sciences value people who can map and improve flow. As firms face energy and supply-chain pressure, the ability to cut waste and lead time makes this a highly practical, in-demand skill.

The course is designed for operations and manufacturing managers, industrial and process engineers, Lean and Six Sigma practitioners, supply chain professionals and healthcare improvement teams. Anyone responsible for finding and removing waste in end-to-end processes will benefit.

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Some familiarity with Lean ideas such as waste and flow is helpful, but the course introduces every concept it needs, from the eight wastes to takt time, in the context of value stream mapping.

The training is grounded in Lean and the Toyota Production System, using the value stream mapping method popularised by Mike Rother and John Shook in their guide Learning to See. There is no governing body or exam; the focus is practical, workplace skills.

    Pricing

How much does Value Stream Mapping training cost in Austria?

Pricing depends on the delivery format (live virtual, classroom or corporate onsite) and group size. For current fees for public and in-house sessions in Austria, request a quote from Invensis Learning and a learning advisor will share the options that suit you.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee covers the full one-day instructor-led programme, hands-on current-state and future-state mapping exercises, course materials and post-training support. On completion you receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Contact us for a detailed inclusion list.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate and group pricing for teams, with customised schedules and onsite delivery across Austria. Group training is especially cost-effective because your team maps a real value stream together. Ask about corporate pricing for a tailored quote.

Are there discounts for team bookings?

Volume-based pricing is available for team and multi-site bookings. The more participants you enrol, the better the per-person value, and delivery can be arranged around your operational schedule. Talk to a learning advisor for group rates.

How do I pay and is instalment payment available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and instalment options are available on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the payment option that works best for you.

    Course Completion

Is there an exam for this course?

No. Value Stream Mapping training is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on mapping exercises and group discussion during the one-day programme, so you practise the method rather than sit a test.

What will I receive after completing the training?

You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning confirming you have completed the programme. There is no external credential or awarding body; the real outcome is a practical Lean skill you can apply immediately at work.

    How is my learning assessed?

There is no formal assessment. Throughout the day you build both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic scenario, and the trainer gives feedback as you work, so you leave confident in applying the method yourself.

Will I be able to run VSM at work afterwards?

Yes. By the end of the course you can select a product family, run a Gemba walk, draw a current-state map, analyse waste and bottlenecks, design a future-state map and build an implementation and Kaizen plan for your own operations.

Does the skill expire or need renewal?

No. Because there is no certification, there is nothing to renew. The value stream mapping skills you learn are immediately usable and stay relevant across roles, sectors and employers.

    Course Content

What topics does the VSM course cover?

The course covers six areas: Lean foundations and the eight wastes, standard VSM symbols, creating the current-state map, analysing waste and bottlenecks, designing the future-state map, and implementation planning. Hands-on mapping runs throughout the day.

What will I learn about VSM symbols?

You learn to read and draw the standard value stream mapping symbols for process, material and information flow, including data boxes for cycle time, changeover and uptime, inventory triangles, kanban symbols and the Kaizen burst used to mark improvement points.

Does the course include hands-on practice?

Yes. You create both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic operational scenario during the session. The emphasis is on practising the method, not on theory, so you can facilitate mapping in your own workplace.

How long is the training and what is the format?

The programme runs for one day (eight hours) and is available as live virtual, classroom or corporate onsite training. It combines concept explanation, worked examples and hands-on mapping exercises across all six modules.

What is takt time and will the course explain it?

Takt time is the available working time divided by customer demand, setting the pace production must meet. The course explains how to calculate it and how gaps between cycle time and takt time create overproduction or waiting, so you can balance flow.

How do I enrol in Value Stream Mapping training?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website or by contacting a learning advisor. Choose your preferred format, complete your booking, and you will receive joining details, schedules and course materials. See upcoming batches to get started.

    What delivery formats are available?

The training is offered as online (live virtual) instructor-led sessions, in-person classroom training, and corporate onsite delivery for teams. You can pick the format that fits your schedule and how your team prefers to learn.

When are the next sessions in Austria?

New public and in-house sessions are scheduled regularly. For current dates and to reserve a place, view upcoming schedules or speak with a learning advisor about a date that suits you or your team.
