How is the PgMP different from the PMP?

Is the PgMP recognised in Austria?

Yes. The PgMP is a globally recognised PMI credential valued across Vienna and Austria by employers in banking, insurance, energy, manufacturing, infrastructure and consulting that run large project portfolios and programmes.

How long is the PgMP valid and how is it renewed?

The PgMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs (Professional Development Units) within each three-year continuing certification requirements cycle, distributed across the PMI Talent Triangle.

Do I need to be a PMP before taking the PgMP?

No, the PMP is not mandatory. However, an active PMP can satisfy the project management experience requirement across all three PgMP eligibility sets. You still need separate programme management experience and a degree or secondary education.

Is the PMI exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PgMP exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing, and it is not part of the training fee. PMI members pay a lower exam fee than non-members, so membership can offset its own cost.

What is the format of the PgMP exam?

The PgMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PgMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario-based questions across five performance domains, and is taken in addition to the panel review.

How many questions are on the PgMP exam and how long is it?

The PgMP exam has 170 questions and you have four hours (240 minutes) to complete it. The questions are distributed across the five performance domains, with programme life cycle management carrying the largest weight.

What is the PgMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment in which a panel of programme management practitioners evaluates your documented programme experience. You must pass both the panel review and the written exam to earn the PgMP.

What is the passing score for the PgMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is determined through psychometric analysis and reported by domain, so focus on broad mastery across all five performance domains rather than a single target number.

How many attempts do I get and how do I schedule the exam?

You may take the exam up to three times within your one-year eligibility period. Once your application and panel review are approved, schedule the exam through Pearson VUE, either at a test centre in Austria or via OnVUE online proctoring.

What topics are covered in the PgMP training?

The training covers the five PgMP performance domains: strategic programme management (11%), programme life cycle management (44%), benefits management (11%), stakeholder engagement (16%) and governance (18%), plus application and exam strategy.

Do I need prior experience to take this training?

Anyone can attend the training, but the PgMP credential itself requires senior experience. To sit the exam, PMI requires a degree or secondary education plus several years of project and programme management experience, which our advisors can help you assess.
