What is the PMI-RMP certification?

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist credential recognising expertise in assessing and identifying project risks, mitigating threats and capitalising on opportunities. It is designed for professionals who specialise in risk management on projects and programmes.

Who should take the PMI-RMP?

It suits risk specialists, senior project managers, programme and portfolio managers, risk consultants and PMO analysts. It is especially relevant in high-risk sectors such as construction, energy, financial services and technology, where formal project risk management is expected.

Is PMP required before the PMI-RMP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for the PMI-RMP. You can apply directly based on your risk management experience and education. Many holders do carry both, as the two credentials are highly complementary.

How long is the PMI-RMP valid and how is it renewed?

The PMI-RMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle and pay PMI's renewal fee.

How much does the PMI-RMP exam cost?

PMI bills the exam fee in USD, and it varies by region and membership. As a reference, it is around USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members. Membership also lowers renewal costs, so confirm current fees on pmi.org before you apply.

Is the PMI exam fee part of the course price?

What is the format of the PMI-RMP exam?

The PMI-RMP exam is closed book with 115 multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats. It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre, and is based on the PMI-RMP ECO effective January 2022.

How many questions and how long is the PMI-RMP exam?

The exam has 115 questions and a duration of 2.5 hours (150 minutes). It is closed book and uses multiple-choice question formats.

What are the PMI-RMP exam domains and weights?

There are five ECO domains: Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%) and Monitor and Close Risks (15%).

What if I do not pass the exam first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility window from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to later attempts. Our practice questions and mock preparation are designed to help you pass on your first attempt.

What is the passing score for the PMI-RMP?

PMI does not publish a fixed pass mark. The passing score is set through psychometric analysis, and results are reported as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement by domain, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

Course Content

What will I learn in the PMI-RMP training?

You cover all five ECO domains: risk strategy and planning, risk identification, qualitative and quantitative analysis, risk response, and monitoring and closing risks. You also practise tools such as Monte Carlo simulation, decision trees, expected monetary value and the probability and impact matrix.

Does the training satisfy the PMI-RMP education prerequisite?

The programme provides 32 contact hours, which fully meets the 30-hour risk education requirement for degree holders (Set B and Set C). Set A candidates with a secondary diploma need 40 hours and should add at least 8 more hours of risk education.

Is the courseware aligned with the current PMI-RMP standard?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022 and the PMI Practice Standard for Project Risk Management, and covers predictive, agile and hybrid risk approaches.

Do I need prior risk experience to follow the training?

You can attend the training without meeting the exam prerequisites, and the sessions build from core concepts. To sit the PMI exam, however, PMI requires documented project risk experience and education, which our advisors can help you map.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and mock preparation aligned to the 115-question exam format, plus quizzes to help you identify weak areas and build exam readiness across the five domains.
