Why Construction Employers in Austria Need Certified PMI-CP Talent

    Contract and Claims Complexity

Large Austrian infrastructure and building contracts carry heavy risk around variations, delay and disputes. With Contracts Management the biggest exam domain at 50%, PMI-CP holders are built to manage exactly this.

PMI-CP builds contract and claims skill

    Renewable and Energy Build-Out

Austria's goal of 100% renewable electricity by 2030 is driving a wave of energy and grid construction, demanding project managers who can govern complex, regulated builds to schedule and budget.

PMI-CP builds delivery capability for energy projects

    Residential Construction Rebound

With housing loans up 48% year-on-year, residential building is recovering, and developers need certified professionals who can control scope, stakeholders and cost across a busy pipeline of projects.

PMI-CP builds scope and stakeholder skill

    Construction PM Talent Scarcity

Austria has a deep pool of general project managers but few certified construction specialists. PMI-CP's construction focus and mandatory modules make credentialed holders rare and sought-after.

PMI-CP makes certified specialists stand out

    Cost and Capital Discipline

Tighter margins and cautious capital push contractors and owners to control scope creep and kill value leakage, exactly the governance and change-management discipline PMI-CP is designed to instil.

PMI-CP builds governance and scope control

    Cross-Border CEE Delivery

Strabag, PORR and Swietelsky run projects across Austria and Central and Eastern Europe, where a globally recognised PMI construction credential helps teams work to a consistent delivery standard.

    Your Austria Career Transformation

The Career Shift PMI-CP Makes for Construction Professionals

    Before and After You Certify

Austria's construction market is expanding with transport, energy and residential investment, and employers increasingly separate certified construction specialists from general project managers. Here is which side of that line you want to be on.

    Today

Salary capped with limited leverage to negotiate in the Austrian market

    After PMI-CP

Construction contracts managers in Austria average around EUR 91,647, with senior delivery roles reaching higher

    Today

Shortlisted less often for roles that list a construction PM credential as preferred

    After PMI-CP

Eligible for senior construction roles across civil, energy, rail and building sectors

    Today

Confident on delivery, but employers want proven contract and governance skill

    After PMI-CP

Fluent in construction contracts, claims and governance, not just site coordination

    You earn your PMI-CP

    Before

Delivery skill proven only by tenure, without a recognised construction credential

    Now you have

A PMI construction credential recognised by leading Austrian and European contractors

    Before

Progress capped at site or project level with no formal specialist mandate

    Now you have

A clear route into contracts manager, programme manager and project director roles

    Before

Strong on site, but exposed on contract administration and disputes

    Now you have

Command of contracts, claims, stakeholders, scope and governance that employers want

    Before

Recognition that fades when you change employer, sector or country

    Now you have

A globally recognised credential that travels across the EU and CEE construction markets

"On complex construction projects, the gap between managing a site and leading delivery is increasingly a recognised credential, and the contractors that matter already know it."

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

PMI-CP (PMI Construction Professional) is PMI's specialist credential for the construction industry. It validates your ability to deliver construction projects across four domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance. It suits construction project managers, site and contracts managers, project engineers and client-side leaders.

    General

What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

PMI-CP (PMI Construction Professional) is PMI's specialist credential for the construction industry. It validates your ability to deliver construction projects across four domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance. It suits construction project managers, site and contracts managers, project engineers and client-side leaders.

Is PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in Austria?

Yes. With construction output forecast to grow at 3.1% a year to 2030 and a shortage of certified construction specialists, PMI-CP helps you stand out. Construction contracts managers in Austria average around EUR 91,647 and senior delivery roles pay more, so the credential supports strong career and earning growth.

Is PMI-CP recognised in Austria and across Europe?

Yes. As a PMI credential, PMI-CP carries global recognition across more than 200 countries. It is valued by Austrian contractors such as Strabag, PORR and Swietelsky and travels well across the EU and CEE markets where these firms operate.

Do I need a PMP before taking PMI-CP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-CP. You can pursue PMI-CP based on your construction experience and education. The two are complementary: PMP validates general project management, while PMI-CP validates construction-specific expertise.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

PMI-CP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year cycle, with at least 8 PDUs in each area. The 56 PDUs earned from the four prerequisite modules can be applied toward renewal.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-CP training cost in Austria?

Instructor-led PMI-CP training in Austria is quoted in euros and varies by format and group size, so pricing is available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI. Request a quote or speak with a learning advisor for current figures.

What is included in the PMI-CP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware across all four ECO domains, practice questions, mock exams, guidance on the four prerequisite modules and the PMI application, and learner support. The PMI exam fee is not included. Ask us for a full inclusions list.

How much is the PMI-CP exam fee?

PMI bills the exam fee in USD under regional pricing. For reference, it is around USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members, and prices may vary, so confirm current fees at pmi.org. PMI membership can reduce the exam cost.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing for PMI-CP?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for construction and infrastructure teams. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions, including single-answer and multiple-answer formats, built on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline. It is delivered online proctored through Pearson VUE OnVUE or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 120 questions and you are given 230 minutes, which is 3 hours and 50 minutes, to complete it. Questions are distributed across the four ECO domains.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

There are four domains: Contracts Management at 50%, Stakeholder Engagement at 30%, Strategy and Scope Management at 15%, and Project Governance at 5%. Contracts Management is by far the largest, reflecting how central contracts are to construction delivery.

What are the eligibility requirements for PMI-CP?

You must complete all four mandatory self-paced modules, then meet one experience set: a secondary diploma with 60 months of construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months. All sets require 35 contact hours of PM education, with experience within the past 10 years.

What is the passing score and how many attempts do I get?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score and does not publish a fixed number; results are reported by domain as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement. You get up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility window.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The training covers the four ECO domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%), plus claims, variations, risk and exam strategy across the full construction lifecycle.

What are the four mandatory prerequisite modules?

Before applying, you complete four self-paced modules in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each awards 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total, and each is a 6 to 10 hour commitment.

Can I take this course if I am new to formal project management?

The course is built for experienced construction professionals, since PMI-CP requires construction project management experience to certify. If you are earlier in your career, our trainers can advise on building the experience and education you need for eligibility.

    What learning resources are included?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware mapped to the ECO, practice questions built for the 120-question format, full-length mock exams, and guidance on the prerequisite modules and PMI application, along with post-training support.

Is the courseware aligned to the current PMI-CP standard?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline, the current edition of the PMBOK Guide, and recognised construction industry standards and practices.
