Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The Project Management Professional (PMP) is PMI's flagship credential and the global gold standard for project managers. It validates your ability to lead projects and teams using predictive, agile and hybrid approaches. It suits experienced project managers, team leads and delivery professionals ready to prove their competence.

    General

What is the PMP certification and who is it for?

The Project Management Professional (PMP) is PMI's flagship credential and the global gold standard for project managers. It validates your ability to lead projects and teams using predictive, agile and hybrid approaches. It suits experienced project managers, team leads and delivery professionals ready to prove their competence.

Is PMP certification worth it in South Africa?

Yes. PMI data shows PMP-certified professionals in South Africa earn around 67% more than non-certified peers, averaging about R1.03 million a year. The PMP is sought after across banking, mining, energy, construction and IT, so the return on training is strong. Speak to a learning advisor to plan your path.

Is the PMP recognised in South Africa?

Yes. The PMP is recognised in more than 200 countries and is widely valued by South African employers, including banks, mining and energy majors, construction firms, telecoms and consultancies. It is frequently listed as preferred or required in senior project roles.

What standard and edition is the PMP based on?

The PMP is based on the current PMP Examination Content Outline and references the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition, PMI's primary reference standard, along with agile practices. Our courseware is aligned to this edition so your preparation matches the current exam.

How long is the PMP certification valid?

The PMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year continuing certification requirements cycle.

    Pricing

How much does PMP training cost in South Africa?

PMP training fees vary by format, from self-paced e-learning to instructor-led and corporate delivery. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI in USD and is not part of the training fee. Request a quote for current pricing in your preferred format.

What is included in the PMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, the 35 contact hours needed to apply, practice questions, mock exams, an exam simulator, application guidance and learner support, plus a course completion certificate. Exact inclusions depend on the plan you choose.

Is the PMP exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PMP exam fee separately in USD, for reference around USD 405 for members and USD 555 for non-members; verify current fees at pmi.org. PMI membership can reduce the exam fee and gives access to the PMBOK Guide.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts for PMP training?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for PMOs, delivery units and teams across South Africa. Ask about corporate or group pricing for a tailored quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMP exam?

The PMP is a closed-book exam using multiple-choice, multiple-response, matching, hotspot and limited fill-in-the-blank questions. It is delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre, with scenario-based questions across the exam domains.

How many questions are on the PMP exam and how long is it?

The PMP exam has 180 questions and runs for 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes), including two 10-minute scheduled breaks. Results are reported with domain-level performance feedback rather than a fixed percentage score.

What are the PMP exam domains and their weights?

Aligned to the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition, the exam covers five domains: Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts (15%), Predictive, Plan-Based Methodologies (28%), Agile Frameworks and Methodologies (27%), Business Analysis and Strategic Management (18%) and Stakeholder Engagement and Communication (12%).

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMP exam?

There are two paths. With a four-year degree you need 36 months of leading projects plus 35 contact hours of project management education. With a secondary diploma you need 60 months of leading projects plus the same 35 contact hours, which this training provides.

What is the passing score and how many attempts do I get?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing standard and does not publish a fixed percentage, so aim for broad mastery across all domains. You get up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period after your application is approved.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMP training cover?

The training covers the five performance domains of the current exam: project fundamentals, predictive delivery, agile frameworks, business analysis and stakeholder engagement, aligned to the PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition, plus exam strategy and application guidance.

Does the training cover agile as well as predictive project management?

Yes. Roughly half the PMP exam reflects agile and hybrid approaches, so the training covers Scrum, Kanban, Lean and hybrid delivery alongside predictive tools such as critical path scheduling and earned value management.

Will the training help me meet the 35 contact hours requirement?

Yes. The programme is designed to deliver the 35 contact hours of project management education PMI requires to apply for the PMP exam, and we guide you on how to record them in your application.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice question banks, full-length mock exams and an exam simulator mapped to the 180-question format, so you can find weak areas and build exam readiness before test day.

Do I need prior experience to take the training?

Anyone can attend the training, and it is a good way to build structured project knowledge. To sit the PMP exam, however, PMI requires the education and project-leadership experience set out in its eligibility paths.

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you want help choosing a format.

    What training formats are available?

We offer online (live virtual) instructor-led training, self-paced e-learning, classroom sessions and customised corporate group training, so you can choose the format that fits your schedule and learning style.

How soon can I start PMP training?

Self-paced e-learning starts as soon as you enrol, and instructor-led batches run regularly across South African time zones. See upcoming schedules or ask an advisor about the next available cohort.

Can I reschedule or transfer my enrolment?
