How long is the PfMP certification valid?

The PfMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle.

What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, computer-based, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario and situational questions across five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The PfMP exam has 170 questions and an allotted time of four hours (240 minutes). It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is determined through psychometric analysis, with domain-level feedback such as Above Target or Target, so focus on broad mastery across all five performance domains.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to the PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. Both the panel review and the written exam must be passed to earn the credential.

What if I do not pass the exam first time?

PMI allows up to three exam attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Reexamination fees apply to the second and third attempts, and our preparation resources and trainer support help you close gaps before you retake.

What topics does the PfMP training cover?

The training covers the five PfMP performance domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%), plus the PfMP application, panel review and exam strategy.

Which standard and edition is the training based on?

The courseware is aligned to PMI's Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PfMP Examination Content Outline. The 4th edition is the reference framework for the domains and tasks the exam evaluates.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes 1000+ practice questions, full-length mock exams, an exam simulator and topic-wise quizzes to help you identify weak areas and build exam readiness across the five domains.

Can I take the training if I am new to portfolio management?

Anyone can attend the training to build portfolio knowledge and earn contact hours. Note the PfMP is an advanced credential, so to sit the exam PMI requires substantial business and portfolio management experience, which our advisors can help you assess.

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, references to the PfMP Examination Content Outline and Handbook, a Standard for Portfolio Management overview, portfolio templates, flashcards and chapter-wise quizzes.

PMI requires 120 months (10 years) of professional business experience within the last 15 years, plus portfolio management experience: 84 months with a secondary diploma, or 48 months with a bachelor's degree (36 months for a GAC-accredited degree). A panel review also applies.
