What Is Quality Function Deployment?UntitledA Customer-Driven Design Method

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and design characteristics at every stage of product and service development. Quality Function Deployment training in Singapore equips product, quality and engineering professionals with the practical skills to capture what customers genuinely need and convert those needs into measurable design targets using the House of Quality matrix. Developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno and first applied at Mitsubishi's Kobe Shipyard in 1972, QFD is now a standard planning tool across semiconductor, precision engineering, medical device and consumer product design. In this hands-on one-day programme you learn to structure customer requirements, build and interpret the six rooms of the House of Quality, resolve design trade-offs, and cascade requirements through the four QFD phases from product planning to production. The training suits design engineers, quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma practitioners who apply QFD within Design for Six Sigma and DMAIC projects. It aligns with the customer-focus principles of ISO 9001:2015 and needs no prior QFD knowledge. There is no examination; you build the skill through practical exercises and receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning.

The Design Pressures Facing Singapore Manufacturers

    Volume-To-Complexity Shift

Singapore's electronics sector is moving from high-volume assembly to complex, low-volume production for medical, defence and data-centre uses, where customer needs must be engineered in precisely. QFD gives teams that discipline.

    QFD builds customer-to-design translation skills

Voice of the Customer Lost in Handoffs

Requirements often blur between marketing, design and manufacturing, causing rework and missed needs. The House of Quality keeps customer priorities visible and traceable from concept through to production.

The House of Quality makes needs traceable

    Time-To-Market Pressure

Global chip and product cycles demand faster launches. QFD reduces late design changes by resolving trade-offs early, helping Singapore manufacturers get designs right the first time.

    QFD resolves design trade-offs early

    Quality Talent Scarcity

Employers compete hard for engineers who can link customer needs to design targets. QFD and House of Quality skills help professionals stand out in a tight local hiring market.

QFD skills help professionals stand out

    Design for Six Sigma Integration

Many Singapore firms run DFSS and DMAIC programmes but lack a structured way to translate the Voice of the Customer. QFD turns customer requirements into measurable critical-to-quality targets.

QFD is the core VOC translation tool

    Requirement Traceability Demands

Medical device and automotive suppliers must show requirement traceability for ISO 9001 and IATF 16949. The four-phase QFD cascade documents the link from customer need to production control.

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven method that translates the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and design characteristics using the House of Quality matrix. It helps teams design products and services around what customers actually need.

The training suits design engineers, quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals, service designers and Six Sigma practitioners who need to turn customer requirements into design or service specifications. No prior QFD knowledge is required.

Yes. QFD is a practical, in-demand skill across Singapore's semiconductor, precision engineering and medical device sectors. It helps you cut rework, speed up design and stand out in roles from quality engineer to product manager.

No. The course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not required to benefit from the training.

QFD is widely used in semiconductor and electronics, precision engineering, aerospace, medical devices, automotive and consumer product design, as well as in service and software teams applying customer-driven design.

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment (QFD)?

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven method that translates the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and design characteristics using the House of Quality matrix. It helps teams design products and services around what customers actually need.

Who should attend QFD training in Singapore?

The training suits design engineers, quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals, service designers and Six Sigma practitioners who need to turn customer requirements into design or service specifications. No prior QFD knowledge is required.

Is QFD training worth it for my career?

Yes. QFD is a practical, in-demand skill across Singapore's semiconductor, precision engineering and medical device sectors. It helps you cut rework, speed up design and stand out in roles from quality engineer to product manager.

Do I need prior experience to learn QFD?

No. The course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not required to benefit from the training.

Which industries use QFD in Singapore?

QFD is widely used in semiconductor and electronics, precision engineering, aerospace, medical devices, automotive and consumer product design, as well as in service and software teams applying customer-driven design.

    Pricing

How much does QFD training cost in Singapore?

Fees vary by delivery format (live online, classroom or corporate onsite) and group size, so pricing is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a current quote that fits your needs.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically covers instructor-led training, courseware and templates, hands-on House of Quality exercises, and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Confirm the exact inclusions when you enquire.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer group and corporate onsite QFD training with volume-based pricing for design, quality and product teams. Ask about a tailored group quote for your organisation.

Are there any exam or certification fees?

No. QFD training is a non-certification course with no examination, so there are no exam or awarding-body fees. You pay only the training fee for the programme.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for QFD training?

No. QFD training is a non-certification course with no examination. You build the skill through hands-on House of Quality exercises, case studies and team discussion during the one-day programme.

Do I receive a certificate after the training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. QFD training does not award a formal certification or credential from an external body, as none exists for the methodology.

    How is my learning assessed?

There is no formal assessment. Learning is reinforced through practical exercises where you capture the Voice of the Customer, build a House of Quality and interpret the results.

Does QFD have a governing or awarding body?

No. QFD has no single governing or awarding body. The course builds recognised, practical QFD and House of Quality skills grounded in the established methodology developed by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno.

Will the skills stay current over time?

Yes. QFD is a stable, well-established methodology, so the House of Quality and four-phase skills you learn remain applicable with no renewal or maintenance required.

    Course Content

What will I learn in QFD training?

You learn to capture and structure the Voice of the Customer, build all six rooms of the House of Quality, resolve design trade-offs, set engineering targets, and cascade requirements through the four QFD phases from product planning to production.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It links customer requirements to engineering characteristics, scores their relationships, benchmarks competitors and sets design targets, all anchored to customer priorities.

How long is the QFD training programme?

The course is delivered as an intensive one-day, eight-hour programme covering all QFD modules, from foundations and the Voice of the Customer through the House of Quality, four-phase cascade and applications in DFSS and services.

Does the course include hands-on practice?

Yes. You build and interpret a House of Quality from a realistic product or service scenario, run a Kano classification, and calculate design priorities through practical exercises during the training.

Does QFD connect to Six Sigma?

Yes. QFD is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma (DMADV Measure phase) and DMAIC (Define phase), translating the Voice of the Customer into critical-to-quality requirements and project scope.

How do I enrol in QFD training?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. A learning advisor can help you pick a batch.

    What training formats are available?
