What Lean Manufacturing Is and Why It Matters in MaltaUntitledBuilt Around the Toyota Production System

Lean Manufacturing Training in Malta is a practical one-day programme that teaches you how to identify and eliminate waste, improve production flow and deliver greater value to customers using the Toyota Production System (TPS) and the five Lean principles. Rooted in the methods developed by Taiichi Ohno and Shigeo Shingo at Toyota, Lean is the operating system behind world-class manufacturing worldwide. Over a single eight-hour day you learn to spot the eight wastes (DOWNTIME), map a value stream, apply 5S, design pull and Kanban systems, calculate OEE and lead Kaizen improvement. It suits production managers, manufacturing engineers, supervisors and quality professionals across Malta's pharmaceutical, electronics, aviation and automotive plants. This is a skills course, not an examination: there is no test and no formal credential. You apply Lean tools to real production scenarios during the session and receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning, ready to put to work on the shop floor.

Industry Pressures Making Lean Skills Essential in Malta

Island Supply Chains, Long Lead Times

Malta imports most raw materials and exports finished goods by sea and air, so excess inventory and long lead times hit hard. Lean pull systems and JIT directly attack that cost.

Lean pull systems attack inventory and lead time

    High Labour Cost, Scarce Talent

With unemployment below 3%, Maltese plants cannot simply add headcount. Eliminating waste and lifting productivity through Lean is the practical route to more output from the same team.

Lean lifts productivity without adding headcount

    Pharma and Medical Device Compliance

Growing pharmaceutical and medical device production must stay efficient while meeting strict GMP and ISO standards. 5S, standard work and Poka Yoke build quality in without slowing the line.

5S and standard work build quality in

    Aviation MRO Turnaround Pressure

Malta's expanding aircraft maintenance cluster competes on turnaround time. Value stream mapping and quick changeover (SMED) cut the delays that erode margin and reliability.

VSM and SMED cut turnaround delays

    Semiconductor and Electronics Precision

High-mix electronics and semiconductor lines demand tight changeovers and near-zero defects. OEE, TPM and mistake-proofing keep complex equipment running at world-class levels.

OEE and TPM keep complex lines running

    Margin and Capital Pressure

Rising energy and input costs squeeze manufacturing margins. Lean helps plants optimise the value stream, remove non-value work and protect competitiveness.

The course suits production and manufacturing managers, manufacturing and industrial engineers, supervisors and team leaders, quality engineers, maintenance and TPM coordinators, and continuous improvement staff. It fits anyone working in or responsible for a production operation in Malta's manufacturing, pharmaceutical, electronics or aviation sectors.

Yes. Lean skills are in steady demand across Malta's industrial base, where employers value people who can cut waste, shorten lead times and raise plant performance. The practical toolkit applies from your first day back at work and transfers across sectors and roles.

No. The training introduces Lean from first principles, so no prior Lean knowledge is required. Some manufacturing or production experience is helpful but not essential, and the concepts are taught through hands-on exercises.

The training is grounded in the Toyota Production System developed by Taiichi Ohno and Shigeo Shingo at Toyota, and the five Lean principles set out by James Womack and Daniel Jones. There is no single governing body for Lean; this is a practical, vendor-neutral skills course.

It fits anyone working in or responsible for a production operation in Malta's manufacturing, pharmaceutical, electronics or aviation sectors.

Is Lean Manufacturing worth it for my career?

Yes. Lean skills are in steady demand across Malta's industrial base, where employers value people who can cut waste, shorten lead times and raise plant performance. The practical toolkit applies from your first day back at work and transfers across sectors and roles.

Do I need prior Lean experience?

No. The training introduces Lean from first principles, so no prior Lean knowledge is required. Some manufacturing or production experience is helpful but not essential, and the concepts are taught through hands-on exercises.

What standard is the training based on?

    Pricing

How much does Lean Manufacturing Training cost in Malta?

Pricing varies by delivery format (online, classroom or onsite corporate) and group size, so individual and corporate rates are available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a quote tailored to your needs.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all six Lean modules, hands-on tool exercises, course materials and templates, learner support, and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Request a quote to confirm inclusions for your chosen format.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for production teams, plants and business units across Malta. Ask about corporate pricing for a tailored quote.

Are there any exam or certification fees?

No. This is a non-certification course with no examination, so there are no exam or awarding-body fees. You pay only for the training and receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for this course?

No. Lean Manufacturing Training is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on Lean tool exercises, waste identification activities and manufacturing case studies during the one-day programme.

    Do I receive a certificate?

Yes. You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning on finishing the programme. This is a record of training completed, not a formal certification from an external body, as Lean has no single awarding body.

How am I assessed during the training?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you apply Lean tools to realistic production scenarios through exercises such as waste walks, value stream mapping, 5S assessment, OEE calculation and Kanban sizing, so you practise the skills as you learn them.

Will I be able to apply Lean at work straight away?

Yes. The training is designed for immediate application. You can run waste walks, facilitate value stream mapping, implement 5S, design Kanban systems, calculate OEE and lead Kaizen improvements in your own plant right after the course.

What can I do after completing the training?

After the programme you can explain the five Lean principles and the Toyota Production System, classify the eight wastes, interpret a value stream map, run 5S, design a Kanban pull system, calculate OEE, write standard work and lead Kaizen improvement on the shop floor.

    Course Content

What topics does the Lean course cover?

The course covers Lean foundations and the Toyota Production System, the eight wastes (DOWNTIME), value stream mapping, 5S and visual management, pull systems and Kanban, JIT, TPM and OEE, standard work, SMED quick changeover, Heijunka, Poka Yoke and building a Lean culture, with exercises throughout.

    How long is the training?

The programme runs for one day (8 hours), and can also be delivered as two half-day (4-hour) sessions totalling 8 hours. It covers all six Lean modules with concept explanations, case studies and hands-on tool exercises.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. The day includes practical exercises such as a Gemba-based waste walk, value stream data collection, a 5S workplace assessment, OEE calculation and Kanban quantity sizing, so you practise each Lean tool on realistic scenarios.

    What materials are provided?

You receive structured course materials, reference guides and downloadable Lean templates covering value stream mapping, 5S, standard work and OEE, plus the exercises used during the session for later use in your own plant.

Is the course relevant to non-manufacturing operations?

Yes. While the focus is manufacturing, the Lean principles and many tools (5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping, waste elimination) apply to logistics, warehousing, healthcare operations and other production or service environments.
