Industry Pressures Making QFD Skills Valuable in Kenya

    Lost Customer Requirements

Customer needs are often lost in the handoff from marketing to engineering. QFD gives teams a structured way to capture and trace the Voice of the Customer through the whole design process.

    QFD builds Voice-of-the-Customer skills

    High New Product Failure Rates

Many products fail in the market because they were designed around assumptions, not evidence. QFD anchors every design decision to a real, prioritised customer requirement.

    QFD builds customer-driven design skills

    Quality and Standards Pressure

As Kenyan manufacturers face tighter quality and standards expectations, teams need to design quality in from the start. QFD links customer needs to measurable engineering targets and controls.

    QFD builds design-for-quality skills

    Costly Late-Stage Changes

Design conflicts found during prototyping are expensive to fix. The House of Quality correlation roof surfaces those trade-offs early, before money is committed to tooling.

QFD builds trade-off and planning skills

    Manufacturing Competitiveness Gap

With manufacturing well below its Vision 2030 GDP target, firms must develop products faster and better. QFD shortens development cycles and improves first-time-right design.

QFD builds new product development skills

    Growing Service Design Demands

Banks, telcos and healthcare providers in Kenya compete on customer experience. QFD applies beyond factories, translating service requirements into delivery standards and process controls.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Quality Function Deployment training teaches a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into design and engineering specifications using the House of Quality. It is for product designers, quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma practitioners who want to design quality in from the start.

Quality Function Deployment training teaches a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into design and engineering specifications using the House of Quality. It is for product designers, quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma practitioners who want to design quality in from the start.

Yes. As Kenyan manufacturers and product teams compete on quality and customer experience under Vision 2030, skills that turn customer needs into better products are in demand across FMCG, manufacturing, technology and services. QFD is a practical, cross-industry method you can apply immediately.

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It captures customer requirements, engineering characteristics, the strength of their relationships, competitive benchmarking and engineering targets in one visual tool, making design priorities and trade-offs clear to a cross-functional team.

No. The course has no prerequisites and introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management helps but is not required, so beginners and experienced practitioners can both benefit.

QFD was developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, with early application at the Kobe Shipyard. It spread through the automotive industry and is now used worldwide in manufacturing, healthcare, software and service design wherever customer requirements must drive design.

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment training and who is it for?

Quality Function Deployment training teaches a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into design and engineering specifications using the House of Quality. It is for product designers, quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma practitioners who want to design quality in from the start.

Is QFD training worth it for professionals in Kenya?

Yes. As Kenyan manufacturers and product teams compete on quality and customer experience under Vision 2030, skills that turn customer needs into better products are in demand across FMCG, manufacturing, technology and services. QFD is a practical, cross-industry method you can apply immediately.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It captures customer requirements, engineering characteristics, the strength of their relationships, competitive benchmarking and engineering targets in one visual tool, making design priorities and trade-offs clear to a cross-functional team.

Do I need prior experience to take this course?

No. The course has no prerequisites and introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management helps but is not required, so beginners and experienced practitioners can both benefit.

    Where did QFD come from?

QFD was developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, with early application at the Kobe Shipyard. It spread through the automotive industry and is now used worldwide in manufacturing, healthcare, software and service design wherever customer requirements must drive design.

    Pricing

How much does QFD training cost in Kenya?

Fees vary by delivery format (live virtual, classroom or onsite) and by group size. Pricing for individual and corporate options is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a quote tailored to your needs and schedule.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all QFD modules, structured courseware, hands-on House of Quality exercises, case study examples, and learner support. A course completion record from Invensis Learning is provided on finishing the programme.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for product, quality and engineering teams. Ask about corporate or group pricing to train a cross-functional team together.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that best suits you or your organisation.

Is there a discount for enrolling a whole team?

Yes. Group enrolment usually qualifies for volume-based pricing, and corporate delivery can be arranged onsite or live virtual to fit your team. Request a group quote and we will tailor it to your headcount and goals.

    Assessment

Is there an examination for this course?

No. This is a practical, non-examination skills course. Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, case studies and team discussion during the one-day programme rather than through a formal test.

What do I receive after completing the training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. The real outcome is practical capability: you leave able to capture the Voice of the Customer, build a House of Quality, and cascade requirements through design and production.

How is learning assessed during the course?

Learning is assessed informally through hands-on activities. You structure a Voice-of-the-Customer set with an affinity diagram, classify requirements with the Kano model, build a full House of Quality, calculate column importance and identify design hot spots.

Will I be able to apply QFD at work straight away?

Yes. The training is built around realistic exercises so you can facilitate a QFD workshop, build a House of Quality and connect design choices to customer needs on your own projects immediately, with no renewal or maintenance required.

    Course Content

What topics are covered in the QFD training?

The course covers QFD principles and origins, capturing and structuring the Voice of the Customer, the Kano model, building and interpreting the House of Quality, the four-phase QFD cascade, and applying QFD in Design for Six Sigma, DMAIC and service design.

How long is the QFD training?

The programme runs for one day (eight hours), covering all QFD modules with concept explanations, real-world examples and hands-on House of Quality construction exercises throughout. It can also be delivered as two half-day sessions.

Does the course cover the four phases of QFD?

Yes. You learn to cascade requirements through all four phases: product planning (the House of Quality), parts deployment, process planning and production planning, keeping traceability from customer need all the way to production control.

Is QFD useful for services and software, not just manufacturing?

Yes. While QFD began in manufacturing, the course covers its use in services such as healthcare, financial services and IT, and in software development. The House of Quality applies anywhere customer requirements must become design or delivery specifications.

    Are the sessions hands-on?

Yes. Hands-on House of Quality construction runs throughout the day. You build a matrix from a realistic product or service scenario, work through relationship and correlation matrices, and interpret the results as a team.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in the QFD course?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. See upcoming batches or talk to a learning advisor to get started.

What training formats are available in Kenya?

The course is available as online (live virtual) instructor-led training, classroom training, and onsite corporate delivery for teams. Choose the format that fits your schedule and learning preference.

    How soon can I start?

New live virtual and classroom sessions run regularly, and corporate onsite dates can be arranged around your team's availability. See upcoming schedules or contact a learning advisor to confirm the next available start date.

    Can I reschedule my enrolment?

Yes. Flexible options let you reschedule or transfer to another batch where available. Contact our support team to arrange a change that suits you.

Can this be delivered onsite for my team in Kenya?

Yes. We deliver QFD training onsite for organisations across Kenya, so cross-functional teams can train together and build a House of Quality for one of their own products. Request corporate training to arrange a session.
