Market Forces Fuelling Risk Talent Demand in Italy

    PNRR Delivery Under Pressure

Italy is deploying about 194.4 billion euros through the PNRR by 2026 across infrastructure, energy and digital projects, and this scale of concurrent delivery demands the structured risk governance the PMI-RMP is built to provide.

PMI-RMP builds risk strategy and governance skills

    Energy Transition Risk

Snam, Terna and Enel are investing tens of billions of euros in networks and generation, and these high-consequence projects need professionals who can quantify, aggregate and respond to risk across the lifecycle.

PMI-RMP builds risk analysis and aggregation skills

    Regulatory and Cyber Duties

Banks, energy firms and public bodies in Italy now face statutory cybersecurity, incident reporting and supply-chain security obligations, raising demand for people who can embed risk practice into project delivery.

PMI-RMP builds risk identification and response skills

    Milan Financial-Sector Scrutiny

Milan concentrates banking, insurance and fintech risk hiring, where regulatory change and operational risk programmes reward professionals with a recognised, project-focused risk credential.

PMI-RMP strengthens credibility with risk-heavy employers

    Specialist Risk Talent Gap

Italy has a deep pool of PMP project managers but far fewer credentialed project risk specialists, so the PMI-RMP's focused scope makes holders relatively rare and sought-after.

PMI-RMP makes certified risk professionals stand out

    Megaproject Complexity

Milano Cortina 2026 and Italy's mobility megaprojects run many interlinked workstreams, demanding portfolio-grade risk coordination, monitoring and escalation that specialist risk professionals are hired to deliver.

    General

Is the PMI-RMP worth it for professionals in Italy?

Yes. The PMI-RMP is PMI's specialist project risk credential, and it is valued across Italy's energy, banking, construction and defence sectors, where PNRR-funded and regulated programmes demand structured risk expertise. Senior risk roles command strong salary bands, and industry sources report an earning premium for RMP holders.

What is the PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP)?

The PMI-RMP is the Project Management Institute's specialist certification in project risk management. It recognises expertise in identifying and assessing risks, mitigating threats and capitalising on opportunities across the project lifecycle, and it sets holders apart from general project management practitioners.

    Who should take PMI-RMP training?

The programme suits project risk managers and specialists, senior project managers, programme and PMO analysts, risk consultants and professionals in high-risk sectors such as construction, energy, defence and financial services who want a globally recognised risk credential.

Is PMP required before the PMI-RMP?

No. PMP certification is not a prerequisite for the PMI-RMP. You can apply directly based on your risk management experience and education, though many risk professionals hold both credentials because they complement each other.

How long is the PMI-RMP valid and how is it renewed?

The PMI-RMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year continuing certification requirements cycle through PMI's CCR system.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-RMP exam?

The PMI-RMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022. It uses single-answer and multiple-answer questions across the five risk management domains, delivered via Pearson VUE.

How many questions are on the PMI-RMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 115 questions and a time limit of 2.5 hours (150 minutes). It is closed book and delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What are the PMI-RMP exam domains and weights?

There are five domains under the January 2022 ECO: Risk Strategy and Planning (20 percent), Risk Identification (20 percent), Risk Analysis (23 percent), Risk Response (22 percent) and Monitor and Close Risks (15 percent).

What is the passing score for the PMI-RMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The passing score is determined through psychometric analysis, and results are reported with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

How many attempts do I get, and what if I do not pass?

You may sit the exam up to three times within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Reexamination fees apply to later attempts, and our preparation resources help you close gaps before you retake.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-RMP?

PMI offers three sets: Set A needs a secondary diploma, 36 months of risk experience in the last 5 years and 40 hours of risk education; Set B needs a bachelor's degree, 24 months and 30 hours; Set C needs a GAC-accredited degree, 12 months and 30 hours. Our 32 contact hours satisfy the education requirement for Sets B and C.

What risk tools and techniques will I learn?

You learn identification tools such as brainstorming, the Delphi technique and SWOT, qualitative probability and impact rating, and quantitative techniques including Monte Carlo simulation, decision-tree analysis, sensitivity analysis and expected monetary value, plus response and monitoring methods.

Can a professional new to risk take this course?

Yes. The training builds concepts step by step with practical exercises and worked examples. Anyone can enrol to learn, though to sit the exam you must meet PMI's experience and education requirements for one of the three eligibility sets.
