What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

Is the PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in Italy?

Yes. With Italy's construction market above 111 billion euros and PNRR megaprojects underway, employers value certified construction leaders. Construction project managers average around 61,000 euros a year and contract managers near 83,000 euros, so the credential supports both career and earning growth.

Do I need a PMP before taking the PMI-CP?

No. A PMP is not a prerequisite for the PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two credentials are complementary, with the PMP covering general project management and the PMI-CP validating construction-specific expertise.

How long is the PMI-CP valid and how do I renew it?

The PMI-CP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year cycle, with at least 8 PDUs in each area. The 56 PDUs from the four prerequisite modules can be applied toward renewal.

Is the PMI-CP recognised in Italy?

How much does PMI-CP training cost in Italy?

What is included in the PMI-CP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, downloadable templates, guidance on the four prerequisite modules and the application, learner support, and a course completion certificate with contact hours toward the education requirement.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PMI-CP exam fee separately in USD and it varies by region. For reference, it is around USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members. Membership can lower the exam and renewal costs. Confirm current fees on pmi.org before applying.

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats. It is delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre, and is based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 120 questions and an allotted time of 230 minutes, which is 3 hours and 50 minutes. Results are reported with domain-level feedback rather than a fixed percentage score.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

The exam covers four domains: Contracts Management at 50%, Stakeholder Engagement at 30%, Strategy and Scope Management at 15%, and Project Governance at 5%. The heavy weighting on contracts reflects the central role of contract and claims management in construction.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain performance feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

What if I do not pass the exam the first time?

You have up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to later attempts. Our mock exams and domain-focused practice are designed to help you prepare thoroughly for a first-time pass.

What are the four mandatory prerequisite modules?

Before applying, you must complete four self-paced modules in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each awards 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total, and each is a 6 to 10 hour commitment.

The training covers the four PMI-CP domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance. It spans contract types, administration, claims, stakeholder and communications management, scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality and governance, plus exam strategy.

Can a beginner or new construction PM take this?

The training is open to enrol, and it suits professionals building construction project management skills. To sit the exam, PMI requires construction project management experience and 35 contact hours of PM education, so it is best suited to practitioners rather than complete beginners.

What learning resources are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, references to the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and Handbook, practice questions mapped to the exam, mock exams, templates and quizzes, along with guidance on completing the four prerequisite modules.

Which standard is the courseware aligned to?

The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO) and the PMBOK Guide, together with construction industry standards and practices referenced by PMI for construction project management.

Will I get a certificate of completion?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with contact hours that count toward the 35 hours of project management education required for the PMI-CP application.

You must complete the four prerequisite modules and meet one of three sets: Set A, a secondary diploma with 60 months of construction PM experience; Set B, a bachelor's degree with 36 months; or Set C, a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months. All sets need 35 contact hours of PM education.
