What is the PgMP certification and who is it for?

Is the PgMP worth it for professionals in Accra?

Yes. The PgMP is one of PMI's most exclusive credentials, held by fewer than 3,000 professionals worldwide, and it is valued by Accra's mining, energy, banking, telecom and public-sector employers. Senior programme roles in Ghana command strong salary bands, so the credential supports both recognition and earning potential.

Is the PMP required before the PgMP?

No. The PMP is not a mandatory prerequisite for the PgMP. However, an active PMP satisfies the project management experience requirement across all three eligibility sets, so PMP holders only need to document their programme management experience.

How long is the PgMP valid and how is it renewed?

The PgMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle, with a minimum of 8 PDUs in each area.

Is the PgMP recognised in Ghana and internationally?

What is the format of the PgMP exam?

The PgMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PgMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario-based questions across five performance domains and is delivered online or at a test centre.

How many questions are on the PgMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions and an allotted time of four hours (240 minutes). It is a closed-book, multiple-choice assessment covering all five programme management performance domains.

What is the passing score for the PgMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. Results are determined through psychometric analysis and reported as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement per domain, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Reexamination fees apply to the second and third attempts, and our preparation resources and trainer support are designed to help you build readiness before you sit.

What is the PgMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to the PgMP. A panel of programme management practitioners evaluates your documented experience. It must be passed alongside the written exam to earn the credential, and our training includes guidance to prepare for it.

Course Content

What topics does the PgMP training cover?

The training covers the five PgMP performance domains: Strategic Program Management (11%), Program Life Cycle Management (44%), Benefits Management (11%), Stakeholder Engagement (16%) and Governance (18%), plus application preparation and exam strategy.

Which standard and edition is the course based on?

The course is aligned to PMI's Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PgMP Examination Content Outline. The Fourth Edition standard and the ECO together define the five domains the exam tests.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions, full-length mock exams and topic-wise quizzes mapped to the PgMP Examination Content Outline, so you can identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Do I need prior experience to take the training?

Anyone can attend the training, but the PgMP is a senior credential. To sit the exam, PMI requires substantial project and programme management experience under one of three eligibility sets. Our advisors can help you check where you stand.

Will I receive a certificate of completion after the training?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the 24 contact hours earned through the programme, which support your PgMP application.

What are the eligibility requirements to sit the PgMP exam?

PMI defines three sets. With a secondary diploma you need 48 months of project management experience (or an active PMP) plus 84 months of programme experience. With a four-year degree you need 48 months of each; with a GAC-accredited degree, 36 months of each. All within the past 15 years.
