What is the PfMP certification and who is it for?

The Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) is PMI's advanced credential for leaders who manage portfolios of projects and programmes aligned to organisational strategy. It is designed for portfolio managers, PMO heads, directors of delivery and senior practitioners with substantial portfolio experience.

Is the PfMP recognised in Ghana and internationally?

Yes. PfMP is a globally recognised PMI credential valued across Ghana and in over 200 countries. Employers in Accra's banking, telecom, mining and consulting sectors regard it as a benchmark for portfolio leadership.

Do I need PMP or PgMP before taking PfMP?

No. Neither PMP nor PgMP is a formal prerequisite for PfMP. The requirements are based on general business experience and portfolio management experience, not prior PMI certifications, though many senior portfolio leaders do hold PMP or PgMP.

How long is the PfMP certification valid?

PfMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle, with a minimum of 8 PDUs in each area.

How much does PfMP training cost in Accra?

Instructor-led PfMP training fees are quoted in Ghana cedis and vary by format and cohort, and are available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately in USD under regional pricing and is not part of the training fee. Request a quote for current pricing.

What is included in the PfMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, exam simulator access, downloadable templates, application and panel-review support, learner support and a course completion certificate with contact hours.

How much is the PfMP exam fee?

PMI bills the exam separately in USD. For reference, the fee is around USD 800 for PMI members and USD 1,000 for non-members; verify the current figure at pmi.org before applying. PMI membership can lower both the exam fee and renewal costs.

What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, computer-based, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario and situational questions across five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions and you are given four hours (240 minutes) to complete it. Questions are distributed across the five performance domains defined in the PfMP ECO.

What are the PfMP exam domains and their weights?

There are five domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%). All five are grounded in the Standard for Portfolio Management, 4th Edition.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. It is mandatory alongside the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

What happens if I do not pass the exam?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Reexamination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our mock exams, simulator and revision support are designed to build your readiness before you sit.

What will I learn in the PfMP training?

You will learn to align portfolios to strategy, govern at scale, manage portfolio performance and value, lead portfolio risk management and communicate with senior stakeholders. The training maps directly to the five PfMP performance domains plus application and exam strategy.

Which standard and edition is the course based on?

The courseware is aligned to PMI's Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PfMP Examination Content Outline (ECO). This keeps your preparation consistent with what the exam actually tests.

Do I need prior experience to benefit from the training?

The training suits senior professionals with portfolio or programme experience. Anyone can attend, but to sit the exam PMI requires substantial business and portfolio management experience, so the course is pitched at senior delivery and PMO leaders.

Are practice tests, mock exams and templates included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions, full-length mock exams, an exam simulator, chapter-wise quizzes and downloadable portfolio management templates to help you find weak areas and build exam readiness.

Will I receive a certificate of completion?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the contact hours earned through the programme, which support your PMI application and PDU record.

What are the eligibility requirements to earn PfMP?

PMI requires a secondary or bachelor's degree plus 120 months (10 years) of professional business experience within the past 15 years, along with portfolio management experience of 84, 48 or 36 months depending on your education path, and a passed panel review. Anyone can enrol in the training.

How soon can I start and how do I enrol?
