What Is Quality Function Deployment?UntitledA Customer-Driven Route to Better Design

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and design characteristics at every stage of product and service development. Developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, it uses the House of Quality matrix to connect what customers want to how a design will deliver it. This one-day, instructor-led programme gives product designers, quality engineers, product managers and Six Sigma practitioners across Georgia a practical command of QFD. You learn to capture and structure customer requirements, build and interpret the House of Quality, resolve design trade-offs, and cascade priorities from product planning through parts deployment, process planning and production. For Georgia's fast-growing pharmaceutical, food and beverage, wine, fintech and IT sectors, the ability to design quality in from the start is a genuine differentiator. Market Forces Making QFD Skills Valuable in Georgia

    Designing What Customers Actually Need

Many products fail because teams design what they assume customers want. In competitive export and domestic markets, that gap is expensive, and structured customer-driven design is the fix.

QFD closes the gap between assumption and need

Voice of the Customer Lost in Handoffs

Customer insight often fades as it passes from marketing to engineering to production. Georgian firms scaling across sectors need a method that keeps requirements visible through every design stage.

QFD keeps requirements traceable end to end

    Quality Demands of Export Markets

Georgia's wine, food and beverage exporters must meet strict quality and specification standards abroad. Translating buyer requirements into exact design and process targets is now a core capability.

QFD builds precise design and process targets

Competing on Generics and Product Quality

Pharmaceutical manufacturers compete on affordable, reliable generics, where quality must be designed in. QFD links patient and market needs to critical quality attributes and process controls.

QFD links needs to critical quality attributes

    Customer-Led Design in Fintech

Georgia's banks and fintechs compete on customer experience. Turning user needs into product and service specifications is where structured design methods give teams a real edge.

QFD turns user needs into product specs

A Shortage of Structured Design Skills

The talent pool is strong in delivery and engineering but thin in formal customer-driven design methods. Professionals who can run a House of Quality stand out to employers.

QFD makes structured designers stand out

    Where You Stand Today,

And Where QFD Skills Take You

Georgia's product, quality and design market is growing with export-focused manufacturing, a booming IT and BPO sector, and rising competition in pharma, food and beverage and fintech. Employers increasingly value professionals who can design quality in from the start. Here is the shift QFD skills make.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for QFD training?

No. QFD training is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, case studies and team discussion during the one-day programme.

How is learning assessed during the course?

There is no formal assessment. Instead you learn by doing: structuring the Voice of the Customer with an affinity diagram, classifying needs with the Kano model, and building and interpreting a House of Quality from a realistic scenario.

What will I be able to do after the training?

You will be able to capture and structure customer requirements, build a complete House of Quality, calculate column importance, identify and resolve design conflicts, and cascade QFD through parts deployment, process planning and production.

Do I receive a certificate after completing the course?

Yes. You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning once you complete the programme. Note that this is a record of completion, not an external certification, as QFD training has no certifying body or exam.

Which framework is the QFD course based on?

The course is based on the established QFD methodology and its four-phase model: Product Planning, Parts Deployment, Process Planning and Production Planning. QFD is also a core tool in Design for Six Sigma and the DMAIC Define phase.

    Course Content

What topics does the QFD course cover?

The programme covers six areas: QFD principles and business case, the Voice of the Customer, building the House of Quality, interpreting the House of Quality, the four-phase QFD cascade, and QFD in DFSS, DMAIC and service and software design.

Can a complete beginner take this course?

Yes. The course is designed for beginners as well as experienced practitioners. All QFD concepts and tools, including the House of Quality, are taught from first principles with hands-on practice.

Does the course include hands-on practice?

Yes. Hands-on House of Quality construction runs throughout the day. You practise VOC structuring, Kano classification, building a full matrix, calculating importance, and identifying design hot spots and conflicts.

How long is the QFD training?

The course is delivered as a one-day, eight-hour programme. It can also be arranged as two half-days totalling eight hours, to suit team schedules.

Does QFD apply to services and software, not just products?

Yes. While QFD originated in manufacturing, the course covers its use in services such as healthcare and financial services, and in software design. The House of Quality applies wherever customer requirements must be translated into specifications.
