    General

What is the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification?

The Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is an advanced credential from the International Association for Six Sigma Certification (IASSC) that validates expert command of the DMAIC method. It confirms you can lead complex, data-driven improvement projects and mentor Green Belts.

Who should take the Black Belt certification?

It suits senior quality engineers, operations and manufacturing managers, continuous improvement leaders and consultants who lead process improvement. In Finland it is valued across manufacturing, technology, energy, healthcare and financial services.

Is the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt worth it in Finland?

Yes. Finnish employers under pressure to lift productivity and cut cost increasingly seek certified improvement leaders. Black Belts move into roles such as Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence Manager and typically earn a premium over non-certified peers.

What is the difference between Green Belt and Black Belt?

Green Belts support or run smaller-scope projects, while Black Belts lead complex improvement projects full time, apply advanced statistics and mentor Green Belts. Black Belt is the advanced practitioner level above Green Belt.

How long is the certification valid?

The credential holds Current status for three years. To stay certified you pass the recertification exam, which has 75 questions, a two-hour limit and a minimum 70 percent pass mark, before the status elapses.

Do I need prior experience or prerequisites?

No. There are no prerequisites for the exam, no required education, work experience or prior certification. Training and project experience are recommended but not mandatory.

    Exam

What is the format of the Black Belt exam?

The exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice test of 150 questions. Some forms include up to 15 additional unscored questions. A reference document with formulas and tables is provided during the exam.

How long is the exam and what is the passing score?

You have four hours (240 minutes) to complete the exam, with extra time available for non-native speakers. The passing score is 580 out of 750 points.

How and where can I sit the exam?

The exam is delivered through online proctoring on demand, 24/7, or at over 8,000 test centres worldwide. You can sit it from home or office in Finland, or at a nearby test centre.

What is the exam application process?

Review the Body of Knowledge and prepare through training, optionally take the non-proctored evaluation exam to check readiness, then purchase the exam voucher and choose online proctored or test-centre delivery. Sit the 150-question exam, and on passing you receive a certificate, digital badge and register listing.

What if I do not pass the first time?

You can retake the exam by purchasing another voucher. Our training includes mock exams, practice questions and trainer guidance to help you prepare thoroughly and pass with confidence.

Which standard is the exam based on?

The exam is based on the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Body of Knowledge, structured around the five DMAIC phases: Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control.

    Course Content

What topics are covered in the Black Belt training?

The training covers all five DMAIC phases: Define (13.5%), Measure (21.5%), Analyse (26.5%), Improve (16.5%) and Control (22%), including advanced statistics, hypothesis testing, regression, Design of Experiments and Lean tools.

What advanced skills will I learn?

You learn advanced statistical methods such as hypothesis testing, regression analysis and Design of Experiments, plus Lean tools like 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Kanban and Poka-Yoke, and statistical process control for sustaining gains.

    What learning resources are provided?

You receive structured courseware, practice questions mapped to the exam format, full-length mock exams, templates, case studies and reference materials to support your preparation.

Can a beginner take the Black Belt course?

The course is advanced, but there are no formal prerequisites. Prior Green Belt knowledge or improvement experience helps. Our trainers build up the statistical concepts so motivated learners can follow and apply them.

Is the courseware aligned to the current Body of Knowledge?
