What Is Quality Function Deployment?Untitledprepares you to do?

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven methodology that translates the Voice of the Customer into specific technical and engineering characteristics at every stage of product and service development. Its central tool, the House of Quality matrix, makes customer requirements visible and traceable through the whole design process. This one-day (8-hour) training suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma practitioners. In the Dominican Republic, where medical device, electronics and consumer goods manufacturers in the free zones must convert demanding customer and regulatory needs into precise specifications, these skills are directly useful on the job from day one. QFD was developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, with its first formal application at the Mitsubishi Kobe Shipyard in 1972. You learn to capture the Voice of the Customer, build and interpret the House of Quality, and cascade the analysis through product planning, parts deployment, process planning and production planning. There is no exam and no credential to earn; the focus is practical capability you can apply straight away. Start your QFD journey with Invensis Learning.

Why Customer-Driven Design Is in Demand Across Dominican Industry

    Design Controls in Regulated Manufacturing

Dominican medical device and pharmaceutical plants must trace customer and regulatory needs to engineering and process controls. QFD is the structured tool that makes that translation visible and auditable.

    QFD builds requirement-to-specification traceability

    Nearshoring and New Product Introduction

As nearshoring brings more new product work to the island, teams need to get designs right the first time. QFD reduces iterations by anchoring every decision to the Voice of the Customer.

    QFD speeds customer-driven product development

    Quality and Design Talent Gap

The free zones grow faster than the pool of engineers who can lead customer-driven design. Practical House of Quality skills help professionals fill that gap and lead cross-functional work.

QFD makes design-quality skills stand out

    Rising Export Quality Expectations

CAFTA-DR access to demanding US buyers raises the bar on product quality. QFD keeps design effort focused on the requirements that customers actually value most.

QFD aligns design to customer priorities

    Cost of Late Design Changes

Margin pressure in free zone operations makes late redesign expensive. The House of Quality roof exposes engineering trade-offs and conflicts early, before costly prototype testing.

    QFD surfaces conflicts before prototyping

    Beyond Manufacturing: Service Design

Financial services, IT and healthcare providers also need to translate customer requirements into delivery standards. QFD applies wherever customer needs must become clear specifications.

QFD extends to services and software

Sources: USITC, ProDominicana, Esco Global Strategies (free zones and medical devices) 2024-2026; local market observation.

QFD is a practical, cross-industry skill for anyone who turns customer needs into design. Join the product and quality professionals in the Dominican Republic building customer-driven design capability. Start today.

Anyone who translates customer needs into product or service specifications will benefit.

Do I need prior experience to take QFD training?

No. There are no formal prerequisites. The course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles, so it is open to all. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not required.

    Pricing

How much does QFD training cost in the Dominican Republic?

Pricing depends on the delivery mode, whether you enrol as an individual or a team, and group size. Because it varies, we quote it on request. Contact a learning advisor for current fees and upcoming schedules, or ask about group and corporate pricing.

What is included in the QFD course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led delivery across all six QFD modules, structured courseware, hands-on House of Quality exercises, templates, case studies and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Contact us for a detailed quote for your chosen format.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for product, quality and manufacturing teams. It is a cost-effective way to standardise customer-driven design across your organisation. Request a group quote for your team.

Is there a separate examination or credential fee?

No. QFD is a non-certification course, so there is no separate examination or credential fee. You pay only for the training itself. Ask a learning advisor for the current fee and available schedules.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you and to see upcoming batches.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for the QFD training?

No. This is a non-certification skills course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, case studies and team discussion during the one-day programme.

Do I receive a certificate after the training?

You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning after completing the programme. No formal credential is awarded by an external body, as QFD is a skills training course rather than a certification.

    How is my learning assessed?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you apply your learning directly by building and interpreting House of Quality matrices during guided exercises, calculating design priorities and identifying conflicts, so you leave able to use QFD on real projects.

Will the skills expire or need renewal?

No. The House of Quality and QFD skills you learn are immediately applicable and do not expire, and there is no renewal to maintain. You can keep applying the methodology to new product development and service design projects.

Does QFD training help with Six Sigma projects?

Yes. QFD is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma (the DMADV Measure phase) and is used in the DMAIC Define phase to translate the Voice of the Customer into critical-to-quality requirements. The course directly supports Green Belt and Black Belt practitioners.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the QFD training?

You will learn to capture and structure the Voice of the Customer, apply the Kano model, build all six rooms of the House of Quality, score the relationship and correlation matrices, set engineering targets, and cascade QFD through parts, process and production planning.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD matrix. It links customer requirements to measurable engineering characteristics, scores the strength of each relationship, uses a correlation roof to reveal design trade-offs, benchmarks against competitors, and sets engineering targets, all anchored to customer priorities.

Does the course cover services and software, not just manufacturing?

Yes. While QFD originated in manufacturing, the course covers applications in services such as healthcare and financial services, and in software development. The House of Quality applies wherever customer requirements must be translated into design or delivery specifications.

How long is the QFD training?

The programme runs for one day (8 hours), covering QFD foundations, the Voice of the Customer, House of Quality construction and interpretation, the four-phase QFD cascade, and QFD in Six Sigma and services, with hands-on exercises throughout.

    What materials are provided?

You receive structured courseware covering all six QFD modules, House of Quality templates, worked examples and case studies, and practice exercises. These support both the training and your later application of QFD at work.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in the QFD training?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website or by contacting a learning advisor. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to schedules and course materials. See upcoming batches to get started.

    What training formats are available?

The course is available online (live virtual) instructor-led, in-person classroom, and as customised corporate onsite training. Choose the format that fits your schedule and team, whether you are an individual learner or a group in the Dominican Republic.

Is the training available online in the Dominican Republic?

Yes. We deliver QFD training online as live virtual instructor-led sessions, so professionals across the Dominican Republic can join interactive classes with real-time trainer support, without travelling to a venue.

Can you deliver QFD training onsite for our team?

Yes. Corporate onsite delivery is ideal for cross-functional product and quality teams, and participants can build a House of Quality for one of your own real products during the exercises. Talk to a learning advisor to arrange a session.

    Can I reschedule my enrolment?

Yes. Flexible options let you reschedule or transfer to another batch on selected plans. Contact our support team to arrange this and to confirm the terms that apply to your enrolment.
