    General

What is Quality Function Deployment (QFD)?

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven methodology that translates the Voice of the Customer into measurable design and engineering characteristics. Developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, its core tool is the House of Quality matrix, which links customer needs to design decisions.

Is QFD training worth it for professionals in Germany?

Yes. Germany's automotive, mechanical engineering and manufacturing employers compete on right-first-time quality, and professionals who can turn customer needs into design targets are in strong demand amid a persistent engineering skills shortage. QFD is a practical, immediately applicable skill.

Do I need prior experience to learn QFD?

No prior experience is required. The course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not essential.

    Is this a certification course?

No, this is a non-certification skills course. There is no formal exam or awarding body. You build practical QFD capability and receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning.

    Pricing

How much does QFD training cost in Germany?

Pricing depends on the delivery format (live online, classroom or corporate onsite) and group size. Fees are available on request. Talk to a learning advisor for a quote tailored to your needs.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee includes instructor-led training across all six QFD modules, hands-on House of Quality exercises, worked product and service examples, learning materials and templates, and a course completion record. Request a quote for full inclusions.

    Assessment

How is my learning assessed in this QFD course?

There is no formal exam. Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction, Kano and affinity exercises, worked case studies and team discussion, so you practise the method throughout the day rather than sitting a test.

What do I receive after completing the QFD training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. More importantly, you leave able to run a Voice of the Customer session and build a complete House of Quality, skills you can apply to real projects straight away.

    Is QFD a recognised methodology?

Yes. QFD is a widely recognised, established methodology used in automotive (APQP), aerospace, electronics, medical devices, services and software. It is a standard tool within Design for Six Sigma and new product development.

What practical outputs will I produce during the course?

You build and interpret your own House of Quality matrix from a realistic scenario, structure customer needs with the affinity diagram and Kano model, calculate column importance, and identify design conflicts using the correlation roof.

Can I apply QFD at work immediately after training?

Yes. QFD skills are immediately applicable to product development, service design and quality planning. You can facilitate VOC workshops, build House of Quality matrices, and integrate QFD into DFSS and DMAIC projects with no renewal needed.

    Course Content

What topics does the QFD training cover?

The course covers QFD foundations and business case, Voice of the Customer capture, building and interpreting the House of Quality, four-phase QFD cascading, and applying QFD in DFSS, DMAIC and service design, with hands-on exercises throughout.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It links customer requirements to measurable engineering characteristics, assesses their relationships, benchmarks against competitors, flags design conflicts in the correlation roof, and sets engineering targets.

Does the course cover Voice of the Customer techniques?

Yes. You learn to gather VOC through interviews, observation and surveys, organise it with the affinity diagram into a requirement hierarchy, classify needs with the Kano model, and apply importance weighting before building the House of Quality.

Are the four phases of QFD covered?

Yes. The course covers the full four-phase cascade: product planning, parts deployment, process planning and production planning, so you can trace a customer requirement all the way through to a production control.

Is QFD useful for services and software, not just manufacturing?

Yes. While QFD began in manufacturing, the course covers applications in services such as healthcare and financial services, and in software, where user requirements are translated into architecture and test criteria. The method fits any customer-to-design challenge.
