What Is Driving Demand for Process Excellence in Germany

    Skilled-Worker Shortage

With hundreds of thousands of roles unfilled, German firms must raise output without adding headcount. Certified Black Belts deliver exactly that by removing waste and rework from existing processes.

Black Belt training builds scarce improvement expertise

    Quality Under Regulatory Pressure

Rising regulation and product recalls put quality at the centre of risk. Black Belts use measurement systems, capability analysis and SPC to keep processes compliant and stable.

Black Belt training builds control and capability skills

    Automotive Transformation

The shift to electric vehicles is reshaping German production lines. Manufacturers need data-driven specialists to cut defects, ramp new processes and control cost during the transition.

Black Belt training builds defect and cost reduction skills

    Industry 4.0 Integration

Automation and connected data only pay off when paired with rigorous improvement methods. Black Belts turn shop-floor data into hypothesis tests, experiments and lasting gains.

Black Belt training builds data-driven analysis skills

    Margin and Cost Pressure

Energy and input costs squeeze German industrials and the Mittelstand. Black Belts protect margin by eliminating the cost of poor quality and optimising throughput.

Black Belt training builds process optimisation skills

    Sustaining Improvement Gains

Many improvement programmes deliver short-term wins that fade. Black Belts apply control plans, Poka-Yoke and statistical process control so gains hold long after the project closes.

    Exam

What is the format of the Black Belt exam?

The exam is closed book with 150 multiple-choice questions, each worth one mark. Some forms include up to 15 additional unscored questions. A reference document with the required formulas and tables is provided for use during the exam.

How many questions are there and how long is the exam?

There are 150 scored multiple-choice questions and the exam lasts four hours (240 minutes). Non-native speakers or candidates with a disability may be allowed an additional 60 minutes.

What is the passing score for the exam?

You need a minimum of 580 points out of 750 to pass. The questions span all five DMAIC phases, so the safest approach is broad mastery across Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control rather than focusing on one area.

What is the exam application process?

You purchase an exam voucher from the IASSC store, choose your delivery mode, then schedule your sitting. The exam is available online proctored 24/7 or at Pearson VUE test centres. No prerequisites apply, though training is recommended. Our team can guide you through the steps.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?

You can prepare and retake the exam by purchasing another voucher. Our training includes practice questions and full-length mock exams that mirror the 150-question format, so you can identify weak areas and sit again with confidence.

    Course Content

What topics are covered in the training?

The training covers the full Body of Knowledge across the five DMAIC phases: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. It includes advanced statistics, hypothesis testing, regression, Design of Experiments, Lean tools and Statistical Process Control.

Do I need prior experience or a Green Belt to join?

No prior certification or experience is required to enrol. The programme builds from core concepts to advanced methods, so motivated beginners and existing Green Belts alike can follow it. Hands-on examples and practice make the statistical content approachable.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams aligned to the 150-question, four-hour closed-book format, plus topic-wise checks to help you find weak areas and build exam readiness.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest Body of Knowledge?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Body of Knowledge, structured around the five DMAIC phases and the competencies the exam assesses.

Will I receive a certificate of completion?
