What is the PfMP certification and who is it for?

Is the PfMP worth it for senior professionals in Germany?

Yes. PfMP validates senior portfolio leadership and opens roles such as Portfolio Manager, Head of PMO and PMO Director. In Germany these roles command strong salary bands, with Head of PMO averaging around €108,000 per year, and certified portfolio leaders are in demand as enterprises mature their PMOs.

Is the PfMP recognised in Germany?

Yes. PfMP is a globally recognised PMI credential valued by employers across Germany and worldwide, including manufacturing, automotive, energy, financial services and consulting organisations that run large, strategy-critical portfolios.

Are PMP or PgMP required before taking the PfMP?

No. Neither PMP nor PgMP is a mandatory prerequisite for PfMP. Eligibility is based on general business experience and portfolio management experience, though many senior portfolio leaders hold one or both credentials.

How long is the PfMP certification valid?

PfMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs through PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements cycle, with a minimum of 8 PDUs in each area of the PMI Talent Triangle.

What is included in the PfMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, exam simulator access, downloadable templates, application and panel-review support, learner support and a course completion certificate with contact hours. Request a quote for the current fee.

How much does PfMP training cost in Germany?

PfMP training fees vary by format and provider and are available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately in USD under regional pricing and is not part of the training fee. Talk to a learning advisor for a tailored quote.

Is the PMI exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PfMP exam fee separately. For reference, it is around USD 800 for PMI members and USD 1,000 for non-members, and prices may vary, so confirm the current fee on the PMI store before applying. PMI membership can lower the exam cost.

What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. Questions are scenario-based and spread across five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The PfMP exam has 170 questions and a total allotted time of four hours. Results are reported with domain-level performance feedback rather than a single published pass percentage.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to the PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. It is a mandatory step alongside the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

What are the PfMP exam domains and their weights?

There are five domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%). Broad mastery across all five is the best exam strategy.

What happens if I do not pass the PfMP exam first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our mock exams, simulator and trainer guidance are designed to support a confident first attempt.

What will I learn in the PfMP training?

You will learn to align portfolios to strategy, govern and oversee components, manage portfolio performance and value, manage portfolio risk, and lead executive communications. The syllabus maps to the five PfMP performance domains plus application and exam strategy.

Do I need prior experience to benefit from the training?

Anyone can attend the training, and it is built for experienced professionals. To sit the PfMP exam, PMI requires substantial business and portfolio management experience within the last 15 years, plus a panel review, so the course also helps you prepare that application.

Are practice tests, mock exams and assignments included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions, full-length mock exams, an exam simulator and topic-wise quizzes to help you identify weak areas and build readiness across all five domains.

Is the courseware aligned with the latest PfMP syllabus?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to The Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PfMP Examination Content Outline from PMI.

Will I receive a certificate of completion after the training?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the contact hours earned through the programme, which count towards your PfMP application.
