    What is the PfMP certification and who is it for?

    The Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) is PMI's most senior portfolio credential for professionals who manage portfolios of programmes and projects aligned to organisational strategy. It suits portfolio managers, PMO heads, directors of delivery and senior practitioners with substantial portfolio experience.

    Is the PfMP recognised by employers in Bonn?

    Yes. The PfMP is a globally recognised PMI credential valued across Germany and worldwide. In Bonn it is respected by telecom, logistics, banking and international-organisation employers such as Deutsche Telekom, DHL Group and Postbank that run large, strategy-critical portfolios.

    What are the eligibility requirements for the PfMP?

    You must meet one of three sets. With a secondary diploma: 120 months of business experience plus 84 months of portfolio management experience. With a bachelor's degree: 120 months of business plus 48 months of portfolio experience. A GAC-accredited degree reduces the portfolio requirement to 36 months. All within the last 15 years.

    Is PMP or PgMP required before the PfMP?

    No. Neither the PMP nor the PgMP is a mandatory prerequisite for the PfMP. Eligibility is based on business and portfolio management experience, not on prior PMI certifications, though many senior portfolio leaders hold one or both.

    How long is the PfMP valid and how do I renew it?

    The PfMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle, with a minimum in each Talent Triangle area.

    What is the format of the PfMP exam?

    The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario-based questions across five performance domains and is delivered by Pearson VUE online or at a test centre.

    How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

    The exam has 170 questions and an allotted time of four hours (240 minutes). Questions are drawn across the five performance domains defined in the PfMP ECO.

    What are the PfMP exam domains and their weights?

    Five domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%). Together they cover managing a portfolio through governance, performance, risk and communications aligned to strategy.

    What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

    PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is determined through psychometric analysis, with domain-level feedback, so focus on broad mastery across all five performance domains rather than a single target score.

    What is the panel review, and can I retake the exam?

    The panel review is a multi-rater assessment of your documented portfolio experience by portfolio management practitioners, and it must be passed alongside the exam. PMI allows up to three exam attempts within your one-year eligibility period; reexamination fees apply to later attempts.

    Yes. You receive structured guidance on documenting your portfolio experience for the PMI application and preparing for the subject-matter-expert panel review, which is a mandatory step unique to the PfMP process.

    Do I receive a certificate of completion?

    Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the contact hours earned through the programme, which also count towards your PMI application.
