What Is the PgMP and Who Is It For?UntitledYour Step up to Programme Leadership

The Program Management Professional (PgMP) is PMI's senior credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as one coordinated programme to deliver strategic benefits. PgMP certification training in Basel prepares experienced project and programme leaders to align programmes to organisational strategy, govern delivery at scale, and step up from running single projects to leading entire programmes. Awarded by the Project Management Institute (PMI) and grounded in the PgMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition, the credential is held by fewer than 3,000 practitioners worldwide, which makes it a genuine differentiator. In Basel, home to Roche, Novartis and Europe's densest life sciences cluster alongside a major banking and logistics base, employers increasingly want leaders who can connect complex, multi-project delivery to business outcomes. This instructor-led programme covers all five performance domains, guides you through the PMI application and subject-matter-expert panel review, and moves you from preparation to certified along a clear, supported path. Start your PgMP journey with Invensis Learning.

What Is Driving PgMP Demand Across Basel

Programme Governance Gaps in Life Sciences

Basel's pharma and biotech firms run many concurrent R&D and technology programmes, but often lack a strategy-aligned governance layer, the exact gap the PgMP is built to close.

PgMP builds strategic alignment and governance skills

    Strategy-To-Delivery Disconnect

Boards fund transformation and capital programmes, yet weak links between strategy and the delivered work leak value that certified programme leaders are hired to recover.

PgMP builds benefits and prioritisation skills

    Cross-Border Programme Complexity

The tri-national Basel supercluster spans Switzerland, France and Germany, demanding programme-grade coordination, risk aggregation and stakeholder management at scale.

PgMP builds coordination and risk skills

    Shortage of Certified Programme Leaders

Basel has deep project-management talent but few credentialed programme managers. The PgMP's rigorous eligibility and panel review make holders rare and sought-after.

PgMP makes certified leaders stand out

    Regulated Delivery Pressure

Pharma and banking programmes face strict compliance and audit demands, so employers value leaders fluent in programme governance, controls and benefits assurance.

PgMP builds governance and controls skills

    Capital and Portfolio Discipline

Cost and capital pressure push Basel firms to prioritise high-value work and rebalance programmes to strategy, a core strength the PgMP develops.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The Program Management Professional (PgMP) is PMI's senior credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as one coordinated programme to deliver strategic benefits. It suits senior programme managers, PMO leaders and directors with substantial programme experience.

    General

What is the PgMP certification and who is it for?

The Program Management Professional (PgMP) is PMI's senior credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as one coordinated programme to deliver strategic benefits. It suits senior programme managers, PMO leaders and directors with substantial programme experience.

Is the PgMP worth it for professionals in Basel?

Yes. Basel's life sciences, banking and logistics employers run large, strategy-critical programmes and value leaders who can govern them. Fewer than 3,000 people worldwide hold the PgMP, so it is a strong differentiator for senior roles and pay. Talk to a learning advisor to plan your path.

Is a PMP required before the PgMP?

No. A PMP is not mandatory. However, an active PMP satisfies the project management experience requirement across all three eligibility sets, so PMP holders only need to document their programme management experience.

How is the PgMP different from the PMP?

The PMP validates managing individual projects. The PgMP validates leading multiple related projects as a programme to deliver strategic benefits, with more rigorous prerequisites and an additional subject-matter-expert panel review.

How long is the PgMP valid and how do I renew it?

The PgMP is valid for three years. To renew, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle, with at least 8 PDUs in each area, within the three-year continuing certification requirements cycle.

    Pricing

What is included in the PgMP training fee?

Your PgMP training includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, exam-strategy sessions, downloadable templates, and support for the PMI application and panel review, plus a course completion certificate with contact hours. Request a quote for current pricing in Basel.

How much does the PgMP exam cost?

For reference, PMI charges around USD 800 for members and USD 1,000 for non-members, billed separately from training and subject to change. PMI membership (about USD 139 per year) reduces the exam fee and gives access to The Standard for Program Management. Verify current fees at pmi.org.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PgMP exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing. It is not part of the Invensis Learning training fee.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing for teams?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for PMOs and leadership teams in Basel. Ask about corporate pricing for a tailored quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What if I do not pass the PgMP exam first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Our training includes mock exams and exam-strategy support to build readiness, and re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts.

How many questions are on the PgMP exam and how long is it?

The PgMP exam has 170 multiple-choice questions and a four-hour allotted time. It is closed book and delivered online via Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What are the PgMP exam domains and their weights?

Five performance domains: Strategic Program Management (11%), Program Life Cycle Management (44%), Benefits Management (11%), Stakeholder Engagement (16%) and Governance (18%).

What is the passing score for the PgMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed pass mark. The result is set through psychometric analysis, with domain feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What is the PgMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to the PgMP. A panel of programme management practitioners evaluates your documented experience. You must pass both the panel review and the written exam to earn the credential.

Which standard is the PgMP exam based on?

The exam follows the PgMP Examination Content Outline and is aligned to The Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition, published by PMI.

    Course Content

Do I need prior experience to take PgMP training?

Anyone can attend the training, though the PgMP credential itself expects substantial experience. The programme suits senior project and programme professionals, and we help you assess your eligibility and plan your application.

What topics does the PgMP training cover?

The training covers all five performance domains: Strategic Program Management, Program Life Cycle Management, Benefits Management, Stakeholder Engagement and Governance, plus the PMI application, panel review and exam strategy.

What learning resources and materials are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, references to the PgMP Examination Content Outline and Handbook, a Standard for Program Management overview, templates, quizzes and practice questions.

Are mock exams and practice questions included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions, full-length mock exams and topic-wise quizzes mapped to the PgMP Examination Content Outline, so you can find and fix weak areas before the exam.

How long is the training and in what format?

The instructor-led programme runs for 24 contact hours, delivered as online (live virtual) or classroom sessions, with self-paced and corporate group options also available.

    Enrollment

How soon can I start and how do I enrol?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website, choose live virtual, classroom or self-paced, complete payment and get immediate access to schedules and courseware. See upcoming batches to pick a start date that fits.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PgMP?

PMI offers three sets. With a four-year degree you need 48 months of project management experience (or an active PMP) plus 48 months of programme management experience; with a secondary diploma you need 84 months of programme experience. All within the past 15 years.

What training formats are available in Basel?

We offer online (live virtual) instructor-led training, classroom sessions, self-paced e-learning and customised corporate group training, so you can choose the format that fits your schedule.

Can I reschedule or transfer to another batch?

Yes. Flexi options let you reschedule or transfer to another batch, and selected plans let you attend the training twice. Contact support to arrange this.

What is the refund or cancellation policy?

Refunds and cancellations follow our published policy, and selected plans include a money-back guarantee. Reach out to our team for the details that apply to your enrolment.
