    Do I need any prerequisites for the Yellow Belt?

    No. IASSC sets no prerequisites for the Yellow Belt. No prior education, work experience or projects are required, although training is recommended to prepare for the exam. Anyone can enrol and start straight away.

    How long is the IASSC Yellow Belt certification valid?

    The certification holds Current status for three years from the date you certify. To maintain it, you pass the IASSC recertification exam before the elapse date, or within 90 days after.

    What is the format of the IASSC Yellow Belt exam?

    The exam is closed book, with multiple-choice and true or false questions. It is delivered through IASSC web-based online proctoring on demand, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The questions are spread across the five DMAIC phases.

    How many questions are on the Yellow Belt exam and how long is it?

    The exam has 60 questions, with up to 6 additional unscored pretest questions on some forms. You have two hours to complete it.

    What score do I need to pass?

    You need a minimum of 230 points out of 300 to pass. Questions are distributed roughly evenly across the Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control phases, so aim for broad coverage of the whole DMAIC method.

    How and where do I take the exam?

    You can sit the exam online through IASSC's proctored, on-demand system at any time, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Both options are available in South Africa. Our team can help you understand the booking steps.

    What if I do not pass on the first attempt?

    You can retake the IASSC Yellow Belt exam by purchasing another voucher. Our trainers help you target weaker DMAIC phases using practice questions and mock assessments so you are better prepared next time.

    How do I keep my certification current?

    The credential is Current for three years. To stay certified, pass the IASSC recertification exam, which has 75 questions and a two-hour limit with a 70% pass mark, before your elapse date or within 90 days after.

    What topics does the Yellow Belt training cover?

    The training covers all five DMAIC phases at awareness level: Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control, plus core Lean tools such as 5S, value stream mapping, Kanban and Poka-Yoke, and key metrics including DPMO, FTY, RTY and cycle time.

    Yes. The Yellow Belt is designed for beginners and needs no prior Six Sigma knowledge. Trainers introduce each concept step by step with practical examples, so newcomers can follow comfortably and apply ideas at work.
