    General

What is the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification?

The Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is the advanced credential from IASSC for professionals who lead complex process improvement projects. It is an independent validation of expertise across all five DMAIC phases, including advanced statistics, Lean tools and project leadership.

Who should take Lean Six Sigma Black Belt training?

It suits quality engineers and managers, operations and production leaders, continuous improvement specialists, consultants and Green Belts ready to step up. If you want to lead full improvement projects rather than support them, the Black Belt is for you.

Is the Black Belt certification recognised in South Africa?

Yes. The Black Belt is a globally recognised credential valued by South African employers across manufacturing, mining, banking, pharmaceuticals and logistics, as well as multinationals operating in the region.

Do I need prerequisites to take the Black Belt exam?

No. There are no formal prerequisites, no education requirement, no work experience and no prior certification. Training and real-world project experience are recommended but not mandatory.

Is the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt worth it?

Yes. Certified Black Belts in South Africa progress into senior roles such as Continuous Improvement Manager and Operational Excellence Lead, with strong salary bands as employers compete for scarce improvement talent. It is a clear return on your time and investment.

How long is the Black Belt certification valid?

The certification holds Current status for three years from the date you certify. To maintain it, you pass the recertification exam before the elapse date, keeping your credential active.

How much does Black Belt training cost in South Africa?

What is included in the course fee?

    Exam

What is the format of the Black Belt exam?

The IASSC Black Belt exam is a closed-book paper of 150 multiple-choice questions. A reference document with the required formulas and tables is provided, and questions span all five DMAIC phases.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 150 multiple-choice questions and you have four hours (240 minutes) to complete it. Non-native speakers may be allowed additional time under the exam policy.

What is the passing score for the Black Belt exam?

You need a minimum of 580 points out of 750 to pass. Because the questions are spread across all five DMAIC phases, broad mastery of the full Body of Knowledge is the best preparation.

How is the Black Belt exam delivered?

You can sit the exam through secure online proctoring on demand, available around the clock, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. You choose the delivery mode when you purchase your voucher.

What is the exam application process?

Purchase a Black Belt exam voucher through the IASSC ordering portal, choose online on-demand proctoring or a Pearson VUE test centre, then schedule and sit the 150-question exam. Our team guides you through booking. Request a quote to begin.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?

You can retake the exam by purchasing another voucher. Our training, mock exams and trainer guidance are designed to prepare you thoroughly, and you keep access to study resources to strengthen weak areas before you resit.

    Course Content

What topics does the Black Belt training cover?

The training covers all five DMAIC phases: Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control. You learn project selection, measurement system analysis, hypothesis testing, regression, Design of Experiments, Lean tools and statistical process control.

Will I learn advanced statistics and Design of Experiments?

Yes. Advanced content is what sets Black Belt apart from Green Belt. You will work through hypothesis testing, ANOVA, simple and multiple regression, and full and fractional factorial Design of Experiments to optimise real processes.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams modelled on the 150-question format, plus quizzes and exercises that help you identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Can a beginner take this course or do I need experience?

There are no formal prerequisites, but the Black Belt is an advanced course. Prior Lean Six Sigma exposure or Green Belt knowledge helps. Our trainers support newcomers with foundational concepts and hands-on practice throughout.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest Body of Knowledge?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the official Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Body of Knowledge and its five DMAIC phases, so you study exactly what the exam assesses.
