What Is Value Stream Mapping?UntitledThe Lean Technique That Reveals Hidden Waste

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a Lean management technique for visualising the end-to-end flow of materials and information needed to bring a product or service from concept to customer. Value Stream Mapping Training in Turkey from Invensis Learning teaches you to build current-state and future-state maps, expose waste, and design leaner, faster operations that meet real customer demand. The technique was developed within the Toyota Production System (TPS) and set out for Lean practitioners by Mike Rother and John Shook in Learning to See (1998), still the reference text for the method today. Over one focused day you learn the standard VSM symbols, walk the value stream at the Gemba, capture cycle time and takt time, and use the eight wastes of Lean (DOWNTIME) to read a map like an improvement leader. The course suits Lean practitioners, industrial and process engineers, operations and supply chain managers, and quality professionals across Turkey's manufacturing and service sectors. There is no examination; you learn by doing, and finish able to facilitate a mapping workshop and build an implementation plan for your own operation. Start building the skill with Invensis Learning.

Why VSM Skills Pay off at WorkThe Value You Take Back to the Job

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

Value Stream Mapping training gives you a practical, immediately usable Lean skill rather than a stack of theory. You leave able to map a real value stream, name the waste in it, and design a leaner future state that meets customer demand. Whether you work in automotive, consumer electronics, food and beverage, logistics or shared services, the technique transfers directly to your operation. It is a strong complement to any Lean or Six Sigma learning you already have.

If you want to move from delivering tasks to leading improvement, VSM is one of the fastest skills to build. You gain a shared visual language that helps you win buy-in from operators, engineers and management alike, and a repeatable method you can apply again and again.

    • Read any process end to end and spot the waste others miss
    • Draw current-state and future-state maps using standard VSM symbols
    • Quantify cycle time, lead time and takt time to prove where flow breaks down
    • Use the eight wastes of Lean (DOWNTIME) as a structured diagnostic lens
    • Turn a future-state map into a costed, sequenced improvement roadmap
    • Facilitate Gemba walks and mapping workshops with cross-functional teams
    • Stand out for continuous improvement and operational excellence roles in Turkey
    For Organizations

    For Organizations

Value Stream Mapping group training equips your teams to diagnose and redesign the flow of value across the plant or service line. Delivered onsite or live online, it works best when a cross-functional team maps a real value stream from your own operation during the session. For organisations under cost and export pressure, VSM is a practical way to release capacity without new capital, by removing waste from what you already run.

If your improvement effort stalls after the workshop, VSM gives teams a common method and a visual business case that leadership can act on. Standardised across sites, it becomes a repeatable engine for waste reduction and continuous improvement.

    • Builds a shared value stream language across operations, quality and engineering
    • Exposes bottlenecks, excess inventory and lead-time waste with data
    • Turns improvement ideas into a sequenced, ownership-assigned roadmap
    • Aligns production flow to real customer demand and takt time
    • Supports World Class Manufacturing and Lean programmes already in play
    • Equips cross-functional teams to run their own mapping workshops
    • Scales through live virtual, onsite and customised group delivery

Why Turkish Manufacturers Need Value Stream Skills

    Export and Cost Pressure

Turkish manufacturers compete on export margins under lira and input-cost pressure. VSM exposes the inventory, waiting and overproduction waste that quietly erodes competitiveness.

VSM builds waste and lead-time reduction skills

    World Class Manufacturing Expectations

OEMs and suppliers running WCM and Lighthouse programmes expect teams to map value streams and evidence flow improvement. Many plants lack enough trained VSM facilitators to meet that bar.

VSM builds current and future-state mapping skills

    Strategy to Shop Floor Disconnect

Improvement goals set by management often fail to reach the line as concrete changes. A value stream map turns intent into a shared, visual plan the whole team can act on.

VSM builds flow and prioritisation skills

Industry 4.0 Without a Lean Baseline

Model factories and digital transformation centres are scaling across Turkey's OIZs, but automating a wasteful process only speeds up waste. VSM sets the leaner baseline first.

    VSM builds process analysis skills

    Bottlenecks Hiding in Complex Flows

Automotive and electronics value streams span many process steps and suppliers. Without a map, the true constraint stays hidden and improvement effort lands in the wrong place.

VSM builds bottleneck and takt time analysis skills

    Improvement That Does Not Stick

Kaizen bursts fade when there is no roadmap behind them. A future-state map plus an implementation plan gives teams the structure to sustain gains, not just achieve them once.

The VSM Skills You Will MasterMapping, Analysis and Improvement

This training builds the full Value Stream Mapping skill set, from Lean foundations and standard symbols through current-state mapping, analysis, future-state design and implementation planning. By the end you can map a real value stream, expose its waste and lead the plan to improve it.

Lean Foundations and the Eight Wastes

Value Stream Mapping training starts with the Lean thinking behind the method. You will learn the five Lean principles, tell value-added from non-value-added work, and use the eight wastes of Lean (DOWNTIME) to see waste in any flow.

Read and Apply Standard VSM Symbols

Master the standard VSM notation for process boxes, material and information flow, inventory triangles, kanban, data boxes and Kaizen bursts, so your maps are consistent and readable across any cross-functional team.

    Build an Accurate Current-State Map

Select a product family, walk the value stream at the Gemba, and capture real cycle time, changeover, uptime and inventory data. You will complete the timeline to reveal value-added time against total lead time.

Analyse Flow, Bottlenecks and Takt Time

Read a completed map like an improvement leader: find the bottleneck, calculate takt time, tell push from pull, and prioritise the highest-impact opportunities with Kaizen bursts on the map.

    Design a Leaner Future-State Map

Apply the future-state design questions to create flow, introduce pull systems and supermarkets, level the schedule, and quantify the improvement in lead time, inventory and value-added ratio against the current state.

    Plan and Sustain the Improvement

Turn a future-state map into a sequenced implementation roadmap, plan the Kaizen events, set the metrics to track, and standardise new ways of working so the gains hold over time.

"The hands-on mapping was the best part. I walked our assembly line the next week, built a current-state map and found waiting waste we had lived with for years. The trainer made takt time and the future-state questions genuinely click."

    Structure I Could Use Immediately

"As an industrial engineer I knew the theory, but I had never drawn a proper value stream map. The DOWNTIME lens and the standard symbols gave me a structured way to show management exactly where flow breaks down."

Confidence to Run My Own Workshop

"Clear, practical and paced well for one day. The Gemba walk method and the current-to-future comparison were the parts I now use most. It gave me the confidence to facilitate my first mapping workshop."

A Shared Language for the Whole Team

"We ran this onsite for a cross-functional team and mapped one of our real value streams during the session. It gave operations, quality and engineering a shared language and a roadmap they could actually act on."

Strong Return on a One-Day Programme

"We booked group training to strengthen our Lean programme. The trainer tailored the examples to consumer electronics, and our teams left able to build maps and plan Kaizen events on their own. Strong return for a one-day investment."

Yes. VSM is a directly usable skill valued across Turkey's automotive, consumer goods, food and logistics sectors, where plants pursue World Class Manufacturing and waste reduction. It supports roles from Continuous Improvement Engineer to Operational Excellence and Supply Chain Manager.

The course suits Lean practitioners, industrial and process engineers, operations, supply chain and quality managers, and anyone responsible for improving process flow. It is equally useful in manufacturing, healthcare, logistics and service operations.

No. There are no prerequisites. Some familiarity with Lean ideas such as waste, flow and pull is helpful, but the course introduces every concept you need in the context of mapping, so beginners and experienced practitioners both benefit.

The course is grounded in Value Stream Mapping as developed within the Toyota Production System and set out by Mike Rother and John Shook in Learning to See (1998). It follows the standard VSM symbol set and the eight wastes of Lean (DOWNTIME).

    General

What is Value Stream Mapping training?

Over one focused day you build current-state and future-state maps and an improvement plan for your own operation.

Is Value Stream Mapping training worth it for professionals in Turkey?

Yes. VSM is a directly usable skill valued across Turkey's automotive, consumer goods, food and logistics sectors, where plants pursue World Class Manufacturing and waste reduction. It supports roles from Continuous Improvement Engineer to Operational Excellence and Supply Chain Manager.

Who should attend this VSM training?

The course suits Lean practitioners, industrial and process engineers, operations, supply chain and quality managers, and anyone responsible for improving process flow. It is equally useful in manufacturing, healthcare, logistics and service operations.

Do I need prior Lean experience to join?

No. There are no prerequisites. Some familiarity with Lean ideas such as waste, flow and pull is helpful, but the course introduces every concept you need in the context of mapping, so beginners and experienced practitioners both benefit.

What framework is the training based on?

    Pricing

How much does Value Stream Mapping training cost in Turkey?

Pricing depends on the delivery format, whether you enrol as an individual or a group, and your location, so a current quote is available on request. Ask a learning advisor for individual and corporate pricing for Turkey.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee covers instructor-led training across all six VSM modules, hands-on current-state and future-state mapping exercises, structured courseware and worked examples, and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Request a quote for the full inclusions.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for operational and cross-functional teams. Group delivery lets your team map a real value stream from your own site. Contact us for a tailored quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

Is there a separate certification or exam fee?

No. This is a non-certification skills course with no examination, so there is no exam or awarding-body fee. You pay only the training fee and receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for this course?

No. Value Stream Mapping training is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on mapping exercises and group discussion, so you practise the skill during the programme rather than sit a test.

Do I receive a certificate after the training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. No formal certification or credential is awarded, because VSM has no awarding body. The value is the practical skill you can apply at work straight away.

How is my learning assessed during the course?

Through practice, not a formal exam. You build both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic scenario and take part in group analysis, so the trainer can guide you as you apply each step of the method.

Will I be able to run a VSM workshop after completing it?

Yes. By the end you can select a product family, walk the value stream at the Gemba, capture process data, draw both maps, identify waste and build an implementation plan, which is exactly what facilitating a mapping workshop requires.

Does the course completion record expire?

No. The skills you learn do not expire and there is nothing to renew. Value Stream Mapping is a stable Lean technique, so what you learn stays applicable across projects, roles and sectors.

    Course Content

What topics does the VSM training cover?

The course covers Lean foundations and the eight wastes, standard VSM symbols, current-state mapping, current-state analysis, future-state design, and implementation planning. You practise mapping throughout the day rather than only studying theory.

What VSM symbols and tools will I learn?

You will learn the standard VSM notation, including process boxes, push and pull arrows, material and information flow, inventory triangles, kanban symbols, data boxes and Kaizen bursts, plus how to complete the timeline for lead time and value-added time.

Will I practise creating maps during the course?

Yes. Hands-on mapping is central to the training. You build both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic operational scenario, so you leave having actually produced maps, not just seen examples.

    How long is the training?

The course runs as a one-day, eight-hour programme covering all six modules. It can also be delivered as two half-days totalling the same eight hours, depending on the schedule that suits you or your team.

What is the difference between a current-state and a future-state map?

A current-state map shows how the value stream actually works today, based on direct observation, and reveals the waste in it. A future-state map is the leaner design you are working towards. Comparing the two builds the visual business case for improvement.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in the VSM training in Turkey?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to the schedule, courseware and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you need help choosing.

    What delivery formats are available?

The training is available online (live virtual) instructor-led, in a classroom, and as onsite or customised corporate group training. You can choose the format that best fits your schedule, location and team.

Can the course be delivered onsite for my team in Turkey?

Yes. We deliver onsite and live virtual group training for teams across Turkey and global sites. Onsite delivery works especially well because your team can map a real value stream from your own operation during the session. Request a group quote.

When can I start and how do I see upcoming schedules?

New sessions run regularly in both live virtual and classroom formats. View upcoming schedules on the course page or ask a learning advisor about the next available dates for individuals or your team in Turkey.

Can I reschedule my booking to another session?

Yes. Flexible options let you reschedule or transfer to another session. Reach out to our support team and they will arrange a date that works for you.
