What Is Value Stream Mapping?UntitledA Practical Lean Improvement Skill

Value Stream Mapping Training in Thailand gives operations and improvement professionals a Lean skill they can use immediately: seeing the whole flow of materials and information behind a product or service, then redesigning it to remove waste. Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a Lean technique rooted in the Toyota Production System and made accessible to practitioners worldwide by Mike Rother and John Shook in their 1998 guide Learning to See. Over one intensive day of 8 hours, you learn to build current-state and future-state value stream maps, identify the eight wastes of Lean (DOWNTIME), calculate takt time, and turn your findings into a costed improvement plan. The programme suits Lean practitioners, operations and manufacturing managers, process engineers and supply chain professionals across Thailand's automotive, electronics, food and logistics sectors. This is hands-on, tool-focused training with no examination. You practise mapping realistic operational scenarios throughout the day and leave with a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning and the confidence to facilitate VSM workshops for your own team.

Why VSM Skills Are Worth Your TimeReal Gains for Operations Teams

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

Value Stream Mapping training helps you move from firefighting individual problems to seeing and improving the whole flow. You learn to walk the value stream, capture real data, and reveal the waste, bottlenecks and inventory that hide inside day-to-day operations. Whether you work in an automotive plant in the Eastern Economic Corridor, an electronics factory, a food processing site or a logistics operation, the technique gives you a shared, visual way to diagnose and redesign how value flows to the customer.

If you want a practical Lean skill that employers across Thai industry actively value, VSM is a strong, hands-on choice. You leave able to map a real value stream, target its biggest waste, and plan a leaner future state that your team can act on.

    • Read any process as an end-to-end value stream, not isolated departments
    • Spot the eight wastes of Lean and quantify their cost to the flow
    • Draw standard current-state and future-state maps your team understands
    • Calculate takt, cycle and lead time to find the real bottleneck
    • Turn a future-state vision into a costed, sequenced improvement plan
    • Facilitate VSM and Kaizen workshops with confidence at your workplace
    • Strengthen your profile for continuous improvement and operations roles
    • Apply a globally used Lean tool across manufacturing, services and IT
    For Organizations

    For Organizations

Group VSM training equips your operations, quality, engineering and supply chain people to map and improve value streams together. When a cross-functional team learns the technique on your own processes, mapping sessions carry shared understanding and momentum from day one. For organisations under pressure to cut lead time, reduce inventory and raise capital efficiency, the training turns a general sense of waste into a quantified, agreed plan for change.

If your plants struggle to connect improvement effort to measurable results, corporate VSM training creates a common method for prioritising and delivering it. Teams gain a repeatable way to map the current state, design a leaner future state, and sequence the Kaizen work to get there.

    • Give teams a shared visual language for process improvement
    • Expose waste, bottlenecks and inventory hidden in current operations
    • Link shop-floor improvement directly to lead-time and cost reduction
    • Build internal VSM facilitation capability that sustains improvement
    • Align cross-functional teams around one clear future-state target
    • Support Thailand 4.0 and lean-transformation goals with practical skills
    • Deliver training onsite around your own value streams and shifts
    • Standardise improvement practice across plants and business units

Operational Pressures Driving Demand for VSM Skills in Thailand

    EV Transition Reshaping Value Streams

Thailand's shift to electric vehicles is redrawing automotive value streams, with EV components projected near 35% of some provinces' output by the end of 2026. Mapping the new flow is essential to stay competitive.

VSM helps you redesign the new flow

    Uneven Automation Across Suppliers

While over 90% of OEM body welding is automated, only 10 to 25% of Tier 2 and Tier 3 supplier processes are. Value stream mapping reveals where better flow, not just more robots, unlocks the next gain.

VSM finds where flow beats hardware

    Thailand 4.0 Smart-Factory Push

BOI incentives of up to 15 years reward Industry 4.0 investment, but a smart factory still needs a clear current-state map before automation pays back. VSM shows what to fix first.

VSM builds the case before automation

    Japanese Lean Operating Culture

OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers in Thailand run on Toyota Production System quality and lean standards. Professionals fluent in value stream mapping fit straight into this demanding operating culture.

VSM fits the TPS way of working

    Rising Cost and Margin Pressure

Global competition squeezes Thai manufacturers' margins. Value stream mapping targets the waiting, excess inventory and rework that quietly erode profitability across the value stream.

VSM targets the waste that erodes margin

    Scarce Continuous Improvement Talent

With Lean Six Sigma roles open across the EEC and Bangkok, employers compete for people who can map and improve real value streams, not just quote theory. This skill sets you apart.

VSM skills make you stand out

The VSM Skills You Will MasterMap, Analyse and Improve Any Value Stream

This training builds practical, hands-on capability across the full value stream mapping cycle. By the end of the day you can map a real value stream, diagnose its waste, and design and plan a leaner future state that your team can act on.

    Map the Current State

Walk the value stream through a Gemba walk, capture cycle time, changeover, uptime and inventory by direct observation, and draw an accurate current-state map using standard VSM symbols and data boxes.

    Read the Eight Wastes

Systematically identify the DOWNTIME wastes on the map: defects, overproduction, waiting, non-utilised talent, transportation, inventory, motion and extra processing, and distinguish value-added from non-value-added work.

Find the Bottleneck with Takt Time

Calculate takt time and compare it with cycle times to locate the true constraint, and analyse where material is being pushed to schedule rather than pulled by real downstream demand.

    Design the Future State

Apply the eight future-state questions to design for continuous flow, introduce pull systems and supermarkets, level the production mix, and set a leaner target state with clear performance metrics.

    Build the Implementation Plan

Translate the future-state map into a sequenced roadmap of Kaizen events, owners, metrics and milestones that delivers the improvement without disrupting live operations.

    Sustain the Improvement

Standardise new ways of working, track lead-time and inventory reduction against baseline, and embed VSM as a repeating discipline within your operational management system.

"Practical and hands-on from start to finish. Learning takt time and the eight wastes on a real scenario, not slides, helped me connect the theory to our electronics assembly flow. The future-state design questions are now part of how I plan improvements."

Finally Saw the Whole Value Stream

"As a supply chain analyst, I wanted to see the whole flow, not just my part. This course gave me the standard symbols and the confidence to map from supplier to customer. The trainer's examples from Thai plants were genuinely useful."

One Shared Plan for Our Teams

"We ran the training onsite for our operations and quality teams and mapped one of our own product families during the session. Everyone left with the same picture of the value stream and a shared plan for the first Kaizen events. Excellent use of a day."

Tailored to Our Plant and Shifts

"Invensis Learning tailored the programme to our EEC plant and delivered it around our shifts. The team now has a common improvement language, and we have already cut lead time on the first value stream we mapped. Strong trainers and easy to coordinate."

    General

What is Value Stream Mapping training?

Value Stream Mapping training is a one-day, non-certification Lean course that teaches you to map the end-to-end flow of materials and information behind a product or service, identify waste, and design a leaner future state. It is practical, tool-focused and open to all.

Who should attend VSM training in Thailand?

It suits Lean practitioners, operations and manufacturing managers, process and industrial engineers, supply chain and logistics professionals, and anyone improving process flow, across Thailand's automotive, electronics, food and services sectors.

Is Value Stream Mapping worth learning?

Yes. VSM is a core Lean tool used worldwide to cut lead time, inventory and cost. In Thailand, where the EV transition and Thailand 4.0 are reshaping operations, employers actively hire continuous improvement professionals who can map and improve value streams.

What framework is the training based on?

The training is grounded in Value Stream Mapping as developed within the Toyota Production System and popularised by Mike Rother and John Shook in their 1998 guide Learning to See. There is no separate governing body for the technique itself.

Do I need prior Lean experience?

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Some familiarity with Lean ideas such as waste and flow is helpful, but the course introduces every concept it needs, so beginners and experienced practitioners both benefit.

    Pricing

How much does VSM training cost in Thailand?

Fees vary by delivery mode, group size and format, so pricing is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for current public-batch and corporate rates for Thailand, quoted in local currency where applicable. Request a quote to get started.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee covers instructor-led delivery of all six VSM modules, hands-on current-state and future-state mapping exercises, learning materials and templates, and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Ask a learning advisor for full inclusions.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. Corporate onsite and group training is available, with pricing based on team size and delivery format, and can be run around your own value streams. Ask about group pricing for your team.

Are there any additional fees to worry about?

No. As a non-certification course there is no examination and no separate exam or credential fee. The training fee covers the programme and its materials, so there are no hidden charges. Speak to an advisor for a clear, itemised quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you or your organisation.

    Assessment

How is Value Stream Mapping training assessed?

There is no formal assessment. Learning is reinforced through hands-on mapping exercises and group discussion during the one-day programme, so you practise building real current-state and future-state maps as you learn.

Will I receive anything on completing the training?

Yes. You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning after finishing the one-day programme. It recognises your participation and the practical VSM skills you have built; it is a training record, not an external credential.

Is there a test I need to pass?

No. This is a practical skills course with nothing to pass or fail. The focus is on applying VSM tools to realistic operational scenarios so you can facilitate mapping workshops confidently at work.

Does the course lead to a formal qualification?

No formal qualification or external award is attached to the technique itself. The value is the practical Lean capability you gain, which you can apply immediately across manufacturing, logistics, healthcare and service operations.

How will I know I can apply VSM at work?

Throughout the day you complete guided current-state and future-state mapping exercises for realistic scenarios. This hands-on practice, plus takt time and waste analysis, prepares you to run VSM sessions for your own team.

    Course Content

What topics does the VSM training cover?

The programme covers six modules: Lean foundations and VSM, standard VSM symbols, creating the current-state map, analysing it, designing the future-state map, and implementation planning, with hands-on mapping throughout the day.

What are the eight wastes of Lean?

They are summarised as DOWNTIME: Defects, Overproduction, Waiting, Non-utilised talent, Transportation, Inventory, Motion and Extra processing. You learn to spot each of these on a value stream map and target them for elimination.

Will I practise mapping during the course?

Yes. You build both a current-state and a future-state value stream map for a realistic scenario, using standard symbols, data boxes and a value-added timeline, so the learning is practical rather than theoretical.

How long is the Value Stream Mapping training?

The programme runs for one day of 8 hours, and can also be delivered as two extended half-days. It covers all six modules with concept explanations, symbol training, worked examples and hands-on mapping exercises.

Is the content relevant beyond manufacturing?

Yes. While VSM began on the factory floor, the same technique applies to healthcare pathways, logistics, financial services and software delivery. The course shows how to map value streams in any operational environment.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in VSM training in Thailand?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you receive the schedule, joining details and learning materials. A learning advisor can help you pick a batch.

    What delivery formats are available?

The training is offered as live virtual (online) instructor-led sessions, in-person classroom training, and corporate onsite delivery for teams. Choose the format that best fits your schedule and location in Thailand.

Can the training be delivered onsite for our team?

Yes. Corporate onsite delivery lets a cross-functional team map a real value stream from your own operations during the session, which is often the most effective way to run VSM. Ask about corporate training for your team.

    How soon can I start?

Public live virtual and classroom batches run regularly, and corporate sessions are scheduled around your team's availability. Contact a learning advisor to see upcoming batches and secure your place.

    Can I reschedule my booking?

Yes. Flexible options let you reschedule to another batch where needed. Reach out to our support team and they will arrange a suitable alternative date for you.
