What Is Quality Function Deployment?UntitledCustomer-Driven Design, Made Practical

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven methodology that translates the Voice of the Customer into specific technical and engineering characteristics at every stage of product and service development. Developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, it uses the House of Quality matrix to make customer priorities visible and traceable through design. This Quality Function Deployment training in Senegal is a practical, one-day programme for product designers, quality engineers, product managers and Six Sigma practitioners who want to build customer needs into design from the start. You learn to capture and structure the Voice of the Customer, build and interpret the House of Quality, resolve design trade-offs, and cascade requirements through the four QFD phases of product planning, parts deployment, process planning and production planning. As Senegal's manufacturing, food, cement and chemical sectors expand, employers increasingly value professionals who can design quality in rather than inspect it out. Start building that capability with Invensis Learning.

Market Pressures Driving Demand for QFD Skills in Senegal

    Product Launch Risk

Too many products miss the market because teams design what they assume customers want. QFD closes that gap by grounding every design decision in the Voice of the Customer.

QFD grounds design in the Voice of the Customer

    Costly Late Redesigns

Design changes discovered late in development inflate cost and delay launches. QFD surfaces conflicts and trade-offs early through the House of Quality, before they reach production.

    QFD surfaces trade-offs early

    Rising Quality Expectations

As Senegalese manufacturers compete with imports, customers expect consistent, well-designed products. QFD builds quality in from the requirements stage rather than inspecting it in later.

QFD builds quality in from the start

    Weak Requirement Traceability

Customer needs often get lost between marketing and engineering. QFD creates a traceable link from each customer requirement to design targets and process controls.

    Cross-Functional Silos

Design, quality, marketing and manufacturing frequently work in isolation. QFD gives cross-functional teams one shared planning matrix to align around customer priorities.

    Assessment And Certificate

Is there an exam for the QFD training?

No. Quality Function Deployment training is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality exercises, case studies and team discussion during the programme.

Will I receive a certificate after the course?

Yes. You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning after finishing the one-day programme. No formal credential is awarded by an external body, as QFD is a skills-based methodology rather than a certified qualification.

How is learning assessed during the training?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you apply what you learn through practical exercises, building and interpreting a House of Quality from a realistic product or service scenario, so you leave able to use QFD at work.

    Is QFD an accredited qualification?

QFD is an established methodology rather than an accredited qualification, and there is no governing body. The value lies in the practical skills you gain, which are immediately applicable to product development, service design and Six Sigma projects.

How does QFD fit with Six Sigma?

QFD is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma (the DMADV Measure phase) and is used in DMAIC (the Define phase) to translate the Voice of the Customer into critical-to-quality requirements. The course shows how to apply QFD within both.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the QFD training?

You will learn to capture and structure the Voice of the Customer, build and interpret the House of Quality, resolve design trade-offs with the correlation roof, prioritise engineering characteristics, and cascade requirements through the four QFD phases.

What topics does the QFD syllabus cover?

The syllabus covers QFD principles and origins, Voice of the Customer capture, the affinity diagram and Kano model, House of Quality construction, HoQ interpretation, four-phase QFD cascading, and QFD in DFSS, DMAIC and service design.

How long is the QFD training?

The course is delivered as a one-day, eight-hour programme covering the full QFD methodology, with hands-on House of Quality construction exercises throughout. A half-day format across two sessions is also available.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. You build a complete House of Quality from a realistic scenario, structure Voice of the Customer data using the affinity diagram, classify requirements with the Kano model, and calculate column importance to identify design priorities.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD matrix that links customer requirements (the WHATs) to engineering characteristics (the HOWs), assesses their relationships, benchmarks competitors and sets engineering targets. Building and reading it is the core skill of the course.
