The PfMP is valid for three years. You maintain it by earning 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year continuing certification requirements cycle.

What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. Questions are scenario based and span five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions and a four-hour allotted time. It is delivered online via Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What are the PfMP exam domains and weights?

Five performance domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%).

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is set through psychometric analysis and reported as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement per domain, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to the PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. Both the panel review and the written exam must be passed to earn the credential.

What happens if I do not pass the exam?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Reexamination fees apply to the second and third attempts, and our prep support and mock exams help you prepare with confidence. Confirm current fees on the PMI store.

What topics does the PfMP training cover?

The training covers the five PfMP performance domains: Strategic Alignment, Governance, Portfolio Performance, Portfolio Risk Management and Communications Management, plus the application, panel review and exam strategy.

Can I take this training without portfolio experience?

Anyone can attend the training, but sitting the PfMP exam requires substantial experience. The programme is built for senior professionals, and trainers guide you on documenting your portfolio experience for the PMI application.

Which standard is the courseware aligned to?

The courseware is aligned to PMI's Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PfMP Examination Content Outline, so you study the same framework the exam is built on.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions, full-length mock exams, an exam simulator and topic-wise quizzes mapped to the exam content outline to help you find weak areas and build readiness.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PfMP?

PMI offers three routes. With a secondary degree you need 120 months of business experience plus 84 months of portfolio management experience; with a four-year degree, 120 months plus 48 months; a GAC-accredited degree reduces the portfolio requirement to 36 months. All within the past 15 years.
