What Is Fuelling Portfolio Leadership Demand in Norway

    Public Sector Digitalisation Push

Norway ranks fourth on the OECD Digital Government Index and aims to lead by 2030. Agencies need portfolio-grade governance to steer large, strategy-critical digital programmes.

PfMP builds strategic alignment and governance skills

    Energy Transition Investment

Equinor, Hydro and utilities run vast portfolios spanning oil, gas, renewables and grid modernisation, demanding disciplined prioritisation and portfolio-level risk aggregation.

PfMP builds portfolio risk and prioritisation skills

    Financial Services Change Load

DNB, Storebrand and Nordic insurers juggle regulatory, digital-banking and risk programmes, where weak links between strategy and the funded mix cause costly value leakage.

    PfMP builds value-realisation skills

    Strategy-Execution Gap

Boards fund transformation programmes, but many Oslo enterprises lack a portfolio layer to convert strategy into the right mix of funded initiatives and measurable outcomes.

PfMP builds prioritisation and balancing skills

    Portfolio Talent Scarcity

Norway's talent pool is strong on project delivery but thin on credentialed portfolio managers. The PfMP's demanding eligibility and panel review make holders rare and valued.

PfMP makes certified portfolio leaders stand out

    Capital-Efficiency Pressure

Cost discipline across energy, finance and technology pushes organisations to optimise the portfolio, retire low-value work and rebalance investment to strategic priorities.

How to Get PfMP Certified in OsloStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PfMP certification path in Oslo is the most senior on the PMI credential ladder. It centres on PMI's peer-panel review of your portfolio management experience, followed by a 170-question, 240-minute scenario-based exam administered through Pearson VUE. From initial application to exam day typically takes 3-6 months, including the panel-review evaluation window.

    Step 1: Confirm PfMP Eligibility

Verify you meet one of the three eligibility sets (Set A / Set B / Set C) , secondary diploma OR bachelor's degree OR GAC-accredited bachelor's, plus 96 months of professional business experience plus 84/48/36 months of portfolio management experience within the past 15 years.

Step 2: Enrol in PfMP Training

Choose your preferred Invensis Learning PfMP cohort (3-Day Live Online Bootcamp, E-Learning, or Corporate Group Training). On enrolment you receive PMI-aligned PfMP courseware, panel-submission templates, and scenario mock-exam material.

Step 3: Document Portfolio Management Experience for Panel Review

Compile your portfolio management experience submission to PMI's evaluation standard: roles held, portfolios led, governance forums chaired, value realised. Invensis Learning's submission templates and reviewer feedback help you avoid the common rejection patterns PMI flags.

Step 4: Submit the PfMP Application to PMI

Submit your application via the PMI candidate portal. PMI performs an initial review, then forwards the experience submission to the peer panel for evaluation. The panel-review window typically runs 60-90 days. Pay the PfMP application/exam fee: ~$800 (PMI member) or ~$1,000 (non-member).

Step 5: Prepare for the Examination

Strengthen your readiness through structured PfMP exam prep training, mock examinations, scenario-based exercises, portfolio governance case studies, and focused revision plans. This preparation helps build confidence for the examination and reinforces key portfolio management concepts.

Step 6: Earn the PfMP Credential and Plan CCR Renewal

On passing, PMI issues your PfMP digital badge and certificate. The credential is valid for three years; renew via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning 60 PDUs across the 3-year cycle in portfolio-relevant content.

    Exam

What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario and situational questions across the five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions, and you have four hours (240 minutes) to complete it. Results are reported with domain-level feedback rather than a fixed percentage score.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. Your result is determined through psychometric analysis and reported as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement per domain, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to the PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. It is a mandatory step alongside the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

What happens if I do not pass the exam first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts, and our training and practice resources are built to support a confident first attempt.

    Course Content

What topics are covered in the PfMP training?

Do I need prior experience to take the training?

Anyone can enrol in the training, but to sit the PfMP exam PMI requires substantial experience: 120 months of business experience plus portfolio management experience within the last 15 years, and a subject-matter-expert panel review. The training helps you prepare and document this.

Are practice tests, mock exams and assignments included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions, full-length mock exams, an exam simulator and topic-wise quizzes aligned to the PfMP Examination Content Outline to help you identify weak areas and build readiness.

Is the courseware aligned with the current PfMP standard?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to PMI's Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PfMP Examination Content Outline covering the five performance domains.

Will I receive a certificate of completion after the training?

PMI requires a secondary or bachelor's degree, 120 months of business experience within the last 15 years, portfolio management experience (84, 48 or 36 months depending on your education), and a panel review. Anyone can enrol in the training regardless of exam eligibility.
