    How long is the certification valid?

    The Black Belt holds Current status for three years from the date of certification. To stay current, you pass the recertification exam, which is 75 questions in a two-hour, closed-book format with a minimum 70% score.

    What is the format of the Black Belt exam?

    The exam is closed book with 150 multiple-choice questions, each worth one mark. Some forms include up to 15 additional unscored questions. A reference document with the required formulas and tables is provided during the exam.

    How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

    The exam has 150 scored multiple-choice questions and lasts four hours (240 minutes). Non-native speakers or candidates with a disability may be allowed an additional 60 minutes.

    What is the passing score for the Black Belt exam?

    You need a minimum of 580 out of 750 points to pass. The exam is delivered online with on-demand proctoring or at an authorised test centre, so you can choose what suits you.

    What is the exam application process?

    After your training, you purchase the Black Belt exam voucher from the official IASSC store, choose online proctored or test-centre delivery, then schedule and sit the exam. An optional non-proctored evaluation exam lets you check readiness first. Our team can guide you through each step.

    What happens if I do not pass the first time?

    You can resit the exam by purchasing a new voucher. Many learners use the included practice questions and mock exams to strengthen weak areas before retaking, so you sit again with greater confidence.

    What topics does the Black Belt training cover?

    The training covers all five DMAIC phases: Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control. The exam weights them as Define 13.5%, Measure 21.5%, Analyse 26.5%, Improve 16.5% and Control 22%, and the course follows this structure.

    Will I learn advanced statistics in this course?

    Yes. The Black Belt level goes well beyond Green Belt, covering hypothesis testing, ANOVA, regression, Design of Experiments and Statistical Process Control. This advanced statistical depth is what distinguishes a Black Belt.

    Are practice tests and materials included?

    Yes. You receive structured courseware, practical exercises, exam-style practice questions and mock assessments mapped to the 150-question, four-hour format, helping you identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

    Is the courseware aligned to the latest Body of Knowledge?

    Yes. The courseware is aligned to the IASSC Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Body of Knowledge, which is structured around the five DMAIC phases, so your preparation matches what the exam tests.

    Can I take this without a Green Belt first?

    Yes. There is no requirement to hold a Green Belt before training for the Black Belt. The programme builds from core concepts to advanced tools, though prior Lean Six Sigma exposure helps you progress faster.
