What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario and situational questions across the five performance domains.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The PfMP exam has 170 questions and a four-hour (240-minute) allotted time. It is delivered via Pearson VUE, either at a test centre or through OnVUE online proctoring.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is set through psychometric analysis and reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback, so focus on broad mastery across all five domains.

What happens if I do not pass, can I retake it?

Yes. PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Reexamination fees apply to the second and third attempts; confirm the current amounts on the PMI store before you rebook.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. It is a mandatory step in addition to the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

The training covers the five PfMP performance domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%), plus application guidance and exam strategy.

Which standard and edition is the training based on?

The training is aligned to PMI's Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PfMP Examination Content Outline (ECO). These form the foundation of the exam and of the portfolio governance practices you learn.
