What Is Driving Risk Management Demand in Kenya?

    Banking Regulatory Pressure

BFSI firms face tightening Central Bank of Kenya and Basel-aligned oversight. Project risk specialists are needed to run change programmes and manage compliance and delivery risk.

PMI-RMP builds governance and monitoring skills

    Scarce Certified Risk Talent

Kenya's talent pool is deep in general project managers but thin in credentialed risk specialists. PMI-RMP eligibility and the specialist focus make holders rare and sought-after.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The PMI-RMP is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management, recognising expertise in identifying, assessing, responding to and monitoring risk on projects and programmes. It is designed for risk specialists, senior project managers, PMO analysts and consultants who want to stand apart from general project management practitioners.

    General

What is the PMI-RMP certification and who is it for?

The PMI-RMP is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management, recognising expertise in identifying, assessing, responding to and monitoring risk on projects and programmes. It is designed for risk specialists, senior project managers, PMO analysts and consultants who want to stand apart from general project management practitioners.

Is the PMI-RMP worth it for professionals in Nairobi?

Yes. Nairobi employers in construction, energy, banking and digital delivery increasingly expect structured risk management, and certified risk specialists are scarce. The PMI-RMP validates specialist skills, supports roles from Risk Manager to Head of Risk, and is reported to carry a meaningful pay premium.

Is PMP required before taking the PMI-RMP?

No. PMP certification is not a prerequisite for the PMI-RMP. You can apply directly based on your project risk management experience and education. Many holders do carry both, as the two credentials are complementary.

How long is the PMI-RMP certification valid?

The PMI-RMP is valid for three years from the date of certification. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year continuing certification requirements cycle.

Which standard and exam outline is the PMI-RMP based on?

The exam is based on the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022, aligned to the PMI Practice Standard for Project Risk Management and the current PMBOK Guide. This ECO covers predictive, agile and hybrid risk approaches across five domains.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-RMP training cost in Nairobi?

Training fees vary by format, such as live online, classroom or corporate group delivery, and are available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI. Contact a learning advisor for a tailored quote and upcoming batches.

What is included in the PMI-RMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware across all five domains, practice questions, mock exams, downloadable templates, application guidance and learner support, plus a course completion certificate with 32 contact hours.

Is the PMI exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing (for reference, around USD 520 for members and USD 670 for non-members; verify current fees at pmi.org). PMI membership can reduce the exam cost.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for PMOs, delivery units and leadership teams in Nairobi and across Kenya. Ask about corporate and group pricing for a tailored quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

How many questions are on the PMI-RMP exam and how long is it?

What are the five PMI-RMP exam domains and their weights?

The five domains are Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%) and Monitor and Close Risks (15%), per the Examination Content Outline effective January 2022.

What is the passing score for the PMI-RMP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

How many attempts do I get and what if I do not pass?

You get up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our practice tests and revision support are designed to help you prepare for a first-time pass.

Where can I take the PMI-RMP exam in Nairobi?

You can take the exam online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctoring from home or office, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Scheduling is done through PMI's portal or the Pearson VUE website after your application is approved.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-RMP?

There are three sets. Set A: secondary diploma plus 36 months of risk experience and 40 hours of risk education. Set B: a bachelor's degree plus 24 months and 30 hours. Set C: a GAC-accredited degree plus 12 months and 30 hours. Experience must be within the last five years.
