Market Forces Driving PRINCE2 Demand in Tokyo

    Legacy Modernisation Pressure

Japanese enterprises face a costly overhaul of ageing IT systems, and structured governance is essential to deliver these transformation programmes on time and on budget.

PRINCE2 builds stage control and governance

    Strategy-Execution Gap

Boards in Tokyo fund large digital and capex programmes, but weak links between strategy and delivery cause value leakage that method-driven project leaders are hired to close.

PRINCE2 builds business-case and control skills

    IT and Project Talent Shortage

Japan's tech talent shortage runs deep, and demand for skilled project managers outpaces supply. A recognised method credential helps professionals stand out fast.

PRINCE2 makes certified leaders stand out

    Governance and Documentation Discipline

Japanese teams value defined roles, strong documentation and steady, controlled execution. PRINCE2 principles and practices map directly onto that governance culture.

PRINCE2 formalises roles and business cases

    Cross-Border and Vendor-Led Delivery

Multinationals and system integrators run vendor-heavy programmes across borders. A common, tailorable method keeps distributed teams aligned on control and reporting.

PRINCE2 gives teams a shared language

    Sustainability and ESG Reporting

ESG advisory is one of the fastest-growing areas of Japan's consulting market, and the seventh edition embeds sustainability into project business cases and plans.

It is designed for project managers and aspiring project managers who want to lead projects using PRINCE2.

    General

What is the PRINCE2 Practitioner certification?

PRINCE2 Practitioner is the advanced project management credential from AXELOS, delivered by PeopleCert, that validates your ability to apply and tailor PRINCE2 principles, practices and processes to a given project scenario. It is designed for project managers and aspiring project managers who want to lead projects using PRINCE2.

Is PRINCE2 Practitioner worth it for project managers in Tokyo?

Yes. PRINCE2 Practitioner is a globally recognised credential valued by Tokyo's IT services, consulting and financial services employers. Project management roles in Tokyo average around ¥8 million, with PMO and programme roles reaching ¥10 million to ¥17 million, so the credential supports strong career and earning growth.

What are the prerequisites for PRINCE2 Practitioner?

PRINCE2 Foundation certification is required. Accepted equivalents also include PMP, CAPM and IPMA Level A/B/C/D. Verify the current accepted equivalents on peoplecert.org before you apply.

Who should take PRINCE2 Practitioner training?

It suits practising and aspiring project managers, PRINCE2 Foundation holders advancing to the practitioner level, and PMP or CAPM holders working in markets where PRINCE2 is preferred. It also fits consultants and senior professionals who govern projects.

How long is the PRINCE2 Practitioner certification valid?

PRINCE2 Practitioner is valid for three years. You can renew by retaking and passing the Practitioner exam, completing CPD via a PeopleCert MyAxelos subscription, or passing a higher-level PRINCE2 qualification.

Which edition of PRINCE2 does the course cover?

The course covers the current PRINCE2 7th Edition (2023), published by PeopleCert and AXELOS. The seventh edition introduces the People capability, renames Themes to Practices, and integrates sustainability, digital and agile considerations.

    Pricing

How much does PRINCE2 Practitioner training cost in Tokyo?

Training pricing in Tokyo depends on the format you choose, such as live online, classroom or corporate group training. Pricing is available on request. Talk to a learning advisor for a tailored quote and upcoming batches.

What is included in the PRINCE2 course fee?

The training fee typically includes PeopleCert-aligned PRINCE2 7 courseware, scenario-based practice, mock questions, open-book exam technique guidance, learner support and a course completion certificate. Request a quote to see exactly what your plan includes.

    Exam

What is the format of the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam?

The Practitioner exam is open book, with the PRINCE2 Managing Successful Projects manual permitted. It uses scenario-based objective questions that require analysis and judgment across the nine syllabus areas, not simple recall.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 56 questions and sub-questions worth 70 marks, and you have 150 minutes (2 hours 30 minutes) to complete it. It is delivered online via PeopleCert OnVUE or at an authorised test centre.

What is the passing score for the exam?

The passing score is 60%, which means at least 42 out of 70 marks. Because questions are scenario-based, focus on applying and tailoring PRINCE2 across all nine syllabus areas rather than memorising the manual.

What does open book mean for the Practitioner exam?

Open book means the PRINCE2 7th Edition manual is permitted during the exam. However, the questions require analysis and judgment, so you cannot simply look up answers. Efficient manual navigation and deep method knowledge are both essential.

Where can I take the exam in Tokyo?

You can take the exam online through PeopleCert's OnVUE proctoring, available 24/7, or at an authorised test centre. The exam is often arranged through your accredited training package.

What if I do not pass the first time?

You can resit the Practitioner exam. Our training includes scenario practice and open-book technique to prepare you thoroughly for the first attempt. Confirm the current resit policy and any fees on peoplecert.org.

    Course Content

What topics does the PRINCE2 Practitioner training cover?

The training covers all nine syllabus areas: PRINCE2 Principles (11%), Practices (22%), Processes (22%), Key Roles and Responsibilities (11%), People Management and Collaboration (11%), Sustainability and ESG (8%), Digital and Data Management (5%), Effective Communication (5%) and Tailoring (5%).

Can a beginner take this course?

Practitioner builds on PRINCE2 Foundation, so you need Foundation or an accepted equivalent such as PMP, CAPM or IPMA to sit the exam. If you are new to PRINCE2, we can guide you through Foundation first, then Practitioner.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes scenario-based practice questions and mock exams aligned to the 56-question, 70-mark, open-book format, helping you identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest PRINCE2 edition?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the PRINCE2 7 Practitioner syllabus and the PRINCE2 Managing Successful Projects manual, both part of the current 7th edition published by PeopleCert and AXELOS.

    What is new in PRINCE2 7 versus PRINCE2 6?

PRINCE2 7 introduces the People capability, covering leadership, stakeholder engagement and team management. It also renames Themes to Practices, incorporates commercial management, and integrates agile and sustainability considerations.
