Why Portfolio Skills Are in Demand Across Kyoto

    Precision Manufacturing Talent Squeeze

Kyoto's precision-manufacturing workforce is shrinking, so firms must fund only the highest-value programmes and govern investment tightly, the exact discipline PfMP-certified leaders bring.

    PfMP builds portfolio prioritisation skills

    Fragmented R&D Investment

Global HQs such as Kyocera, Murata and Nidec run many parallel R&D programmes. Without portfolio governance, capital spreads thin across competing technology bets.

    PfMP builds strategic alignment skills

    EV and Motor Transition Bets

Nidec's plan to double EV traction motor revenue to 400 billion yen by 2026 demands portfolio-grade prioritisation and risk aggregation across large, interdependent programmes.

PfMP builds portfolio risk and balancing skills

    Life Sciences Commercialisation Gap

Kyoto's iPS cell and regenerative-medicine research needs portfolio discipline to move discoveries from the lab into staged, funded investment that delivers returns.

    PfMP builds value-realisation skills

    Startup Ecosystem Scale-Up

Kansai's Global Hub City status is accelerating biotech and deep-tech ventures that need governance to balance a fast-growing pipeline of competing initiatives.

PfMP makes certified portfolio leaders stand out

    Strategy-Execution Disconnect

Boards fund digital and capex programmes, but weak links between strategy and the funded project mix cause value leakage that portfolio leaders are hired to fix.

PfMP builds governance and oversight skills

How to Get PfMP Certified in KyotoStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PfMP certification path in Kyoto is the most senior on the PMI credential ladder. It centres on PMI's peer-panel review of your portfolio management experience, followed by a 170-question, 240-minute scenario-based exam administered through Pearson VUE. Exam

What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario and situational questions across five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions and a four-hour (240-minute) allotted time. It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre, including centres accessible from Kyoto.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is determined through psychometric analysis, with domain-level feedback such as Above Target or Target, so focus on broad mastery across all five domains.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented portfolio experience and competency. It must be passed alongside the written exam to earn the credential.

What happens if I do not pass the exam first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Reexamination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our mock exams, simulator and trainer support are designed to help you prepare thoroughly before you sit.

    Course Content

What topics are covered in the PfMP training?

The training covers the five PfMP performance domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%), plus application guidance and exam strategy.

Can I take this training without deep portfolio experience?

You can attend the training at any stage to build knowledge. To sit the PfMP exam, PMI requires substantial business and portfolio management experience, so we help you assess your eligibility and plan your route to the credential.

What learning resources and materials are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, references to the PfMP Examination Content Outline and Handbook, a Standard for Portfolio Management overview, templates, flashcards and topic-wise quizzes to support your revision.

Is the courseware aligned with the latest PfMP syllabus?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to PMI's Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PfMP Examination Content Outline covering the five performance domains.

Will I receive a certificate after the training?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the contact hours (PDUs) earned through the programme, which also count toward PfMP maintenance.
