Why Cork Employers Are Hiring Certified Programme Leaders

    Programme Governance Maturity Gap

Cork multinationals run many concurrent projects, but many lack a strategy-aligned programme governance layer, the exact gap PgMP is built to close.

PgMP builds strategic alignment and governance skills

    Strategy-Execution Disconnect

Boards fund transformation and capex programmes, but weak links between strategy and the funded work cause value leakage that programme leaders are hired to fix.

PgMP builds prioritisation and benefits skills

    Scaling FDI Complexity

Record investment, from Qualcomm's AI pillar to Apple's Hollyhill expansion, demands programme-grade prioritisation, risk aggregation and cross-project coordination.

    PgMP builds programme coordination skills

    Programme Talent Scarcity

Cork's PM pool is deep in project managers but thin in credentialed programme leaders. PgMP's advanced eligibility and panel review make holders rare and sought-after.

PgMP makes certified programme leaders stand out

    Regulated-Sector Delivery Pressure

Pharma and medtech run multi-site programmes under strict compliance, demanding programme-level governance, benefits tracking and coordinated risk management.

PgMP builds governance and risk capability

    Benefits Realisation Accountability

Boards and investors increasingly demand proof that programmes deliver strategic value, so leaders who can plan and sustain benefits are in growing demand.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

PgMP (Program Management Professional) is PMI's senior credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as a coordinated programme to deliver strategic benefits. It is designed for senior programme managers, PMO leaders, directors of delivery and PMP holders moving up to programme-level accountability.

    General

What is the PgMP certification and who is it for?

PgMP (Program Management Professional) is PMI's senior credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as a coordinated programme to deliver strategic benefits. It is designed for senior programme managers, PMO leaders, directors of delivery and PMP holders moving up to programme-level accountability.

Is the PgMP worth it for programme managers in Cork?

Yes. Cork's pharma, medtech, technology and financial services multinationals run large, strategy-critical programmes, and senior programme roles in Ireland reach €112,000 and above. PgMP validates programme leadership and sets you apart in a market rich in project managers but thin in credentialed programme leaders.

Is the PgMP recognised in Ireland?

Yes. PgMP is a globally recognised PMI credential valued by employers across Ireland and worldwide, including the pharma, medtech, tech and financial services organisations in Cork that run complex programmes. Fewer than 3,000 practitioners hold it worldwide, making it a distinctive differentiator.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PgMP?

PMI offers three sets. With a secondary diploma you need 48 months of project management experience (or an active PMP) plus 84 months of programme experience. With a bachelor's degree the programme requirement drops to 48 months, and to 36 months with a GAC-accredited degree. All experience must fall within the past 15 years.

How long is the PgMP valid and how do I renew it?

PgMP is valid for three years. To maintain it you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle, with a minimum of 8 PDUs in each of Ways of Working, Power Skills and Business Acumen, within each three-year cycle.

What is the difference between PMP and PgMP?

PMP validates managing individual projects, while PgMP validates managing multiple related projects as a programme to deliver strategic benefits that separate projects cannot. PgMP is more senior, with tougher experience prerequisites and an additional practitioner panel review.

    Pricing

How much does PgMP training cost in Cork?

PgMP training fees vary by format and schedule, so pricing is available on request. Instructor-led, live online and corporate group options are offered. Talk to a learning advisor for a tailored quote for your goals or your team.

What is included in the PgMP course fee?

The fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, 24 contact hours of instruction, practice questions, mock exams, application and panel-review support, learner support, and a course completion certificate. The PMI exam fee is billed separately.

Is the PMI exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PgMP exam fee separately under regional pricing, for reference around USD 800 for members and USD 1,000 for non-members. PMI membership can reduce the exam cost and gives free access to the Standard for Program Management. Confirm current fees at pmi.org.

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for PMOs, business units and leadership teams in Cork and beyond. Ask about corporate or group pricing for a tailored quote.

    Exam

What is the format of the PgMP exam?

The PgMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PgMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario-based questions across five performance domains and is delivered by Pearson VUE.

How many questions are on the PgMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions and an allotted time of four hours (240 minutes). Questions span the five domains: Strategic Program Management, Program Life Cycle Management, Benefits Management, Stakeholder Engagement and Governance.

What is the PgMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PgMP. A panel of programme management practitioners evaluates your documented programme experience and competency. It is mandatory alongside the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

What is the passing score for the PgMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed pass mark. Results are determined through psychometric analysis and reported with domain-level feedback such as Above Target or Target, so focus on broad mastery across all five domains rather than a target percentage.

What if I do not pass, can I retake the exam?

Yes. PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts, and our prep resources and trainer guidance help you build readiness for a strong first sitting.

    Course Content

What topics does the PgMP training cover?

The training covers the five PgMP performance domains: Strategic Program Management (11%), Program Life Cycle Management (44%), Benefits Management (11%), Stakeholder Engagement (16%) and Governance (18%), plus application and exam strategy.

Which standard is the PgMP course based on?

The course is aligned to PMI's Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PgMP Examination Content Outline. Together they define the five performance domains and the tasks and enablers the exam evaluates.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions, full-length mock exams and topic-wise quizzes mapped to the PgMP ECO, helping you identify weak areas and build readiness for the 170-question exam.

Do I need prior experience to take the training?

Anyone can attend the training, but PgMP is a senior credential. To sit the exam you must meet PMI's programme and project experience requirements and pass the panel review. Our advisors can help you assess your eligibility before you apply.

Will I receive a certificate of completion after the training?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the 24 contact hours earned, which also count as PDUs.
