Risk Management Challenges Fuelling PMI-RMP Demand in Cork

    Regulated Manufacturing Risk

Cork's pharma and MedTech plants operate under FDA and EMA oversight, where undocumented risk can halt production. Certified risk professionals give employers the disciplined framework they need.

PMI-RMP builds risk strategy and planning skills

    Capital Project Complexity

Facility expansions and new-line investments carry heavy schedule and cost uncertainty. Organisations increasingly hire specialists who can quantify and respond to risk across these programmes.

PMI-RMP builds risk analysis and response skills

    Risk Talent Scarcity

Ireland has a deep pool of project managers but far fewer credentialed risk professionals. The PMI-RMP's dedicated experience and education bar makes holders rare and sought-after.

PMI-RMP makes certified risk specialists stand out

    Supply Chain and Resilience Pressure

Global supply shocks expose fragile delivery plans across Cork's manufacturing base. Employers value professionals who can model, monitor and mitigate risk before it disrupts output.

PMI-RMP builds threat and opportunity analysis skills

    Financial Services Compliance

Banking, insurance and fund administration firms face rising regulatory change programmes. Structured project risk management is now central to delivering these on time and in control.

PMI-RMP builds governance and monitoring skills

    Digital Transformation Uncertainty

Technology and transformation initiatives blend agile and predictive delivery, multiplying sources of uncertainty. The updated ECO equips professionals to manage risk across all delivery approaches.

Skills You Will Build in This ProgrammeFrom Risk Planning to Response and Control

This PMI-RMP programme builds end-to-end project risk capability across the five ECO domains, from risk strategy and identification through analysis, response, and monitoring and closing. By the end, you can lead risk on complex projects and walk into the 115-question exam prepared.

    Set Risk Strategy and Planning

    Identify Threats and Opportunities

Run structured identification using brainstorming, the Delphi technique, SWOT, assumption analysis and a risk breakdown structure, then document risks clearly in the register so nothing critical is missed.

    Perform Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis

Prioritise risks with a probability and impact matrix, and apply quantitative tools such as Monte Carlo simulation, decision tree analysis, sensitivity analysis and expected monetary value to model impact on cost and schedule.

    Plan and Implement Risk Responses

Select and execute strategies for threats (avoid, transfer, mitigate, accept) and opportunities (exploit, share, enhance, accept), assign owners, and build contingency and fallback plans that protect the project.

    Monitor and Close Risks

Track residual and secondary risks, run periodic risk reviews, report on the risk profile to stakeholders, and formally close risks while capturing lessons learned for future projects.

Manage Risk in Agile and Hybrid Delivery

Apply risk tools across predictive, agile and hybrid environments as the updated ECO requires, so you can lead risk in the mixed delivery models common across Cork's technology and manufacturing sectors.

    General

Is the PMI-RMP certification worth it in Cork?

Yes. PMI-RMP is a globally recognised PMI credential that marks you out as a project risk specialist, which is in strong demand across Cork's pharma, MedTech, technology and financial services sectors. Risk Manager roles in Ireland sit around €85k to €95k, and the credential helps you compete for them.

What is the PMI-RMP and who is it for?

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management. It suits risk managers, senior project managers, PMO analysts, consultants and professionals in high-risk industries who identify, assess, respond to and monitor risk on projects and programmes.

Is PMP required before taking the PMI-RMP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for the PMI-RMP. You can apply directly based on your risk management experience and education. Many holders do carry both, as the two credentials are highly complementary.

    Is the PMI-RMP recognised internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential, the PMI-RMP is recognised by employers worldwide. It is especially valued in regulated and high-risk industries such as pharma, MedTech, construction, energy and financial services, where formal risk management is often required.

How long is the PMI-RMP valid and how is it renewed?

The PMI-RMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle, reported through PMI's system.

How much does PMI-RMP training cost in Cork?

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-RMP exam?

The PMI-RMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the current Examination Content Outline effective January 2022. It uses single-answer and multiple-answer questions across five risk management domains.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 115 questions and a total time of 2.5 hours (150 minutes). It is delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What are the PMI-RMP exam domains and their weights?

The 2022 ECO covers five domains: Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%), and Monitor and Close Risks (15%).

What is the passing score for the PMI-RMP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score rather than a fixed percentage. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback (Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement), so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What happens if I do not pass the exam first time?

You get up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our mock exams and prep support are designed to help you pass first time.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMI-RMP training cover?

The programme covers the five domains of the January 2022 ECO: Risk Strategy and Planning, Risk Identification, Risk Analysis, Risk Response, and Monitor and Close Risks, along with qualitative and quantitative tools and application guidance.

Can a beginner or non-PMP take this training?

Yes. The training is open to anyone building project risk skills, and PMP is not required. To sit the exam you must meet PMI's experience and education requirements, but the course itself builds your knowledge from a structured foundation.

Does the training satisfy the exam education requirement?

The 32 contact hours in this programme fully satisfy the 30-hour education requirement for Set B (bachelor's degree) and Set C (GAC-accredited degree) candidates. Set A candidates need 40 hours and should add at least 8 more hours of risk education.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams aligned to the 115-question, closed-book format, plus quizzes to help you identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Is the courseware aligned with the latest PMI-RMP outline?
