What Is Kanban and How Does It Work?UntitledA Visual Pull System for Any Team

Kanban training in Hong Kong equips you with a visual, pull-based method for managing the flow of work, from factory production lines to Agile software and service teams. Kanban uses simple signals to authorise work only when there is real downstream demand, which removes overproduction, exposes bottlenecks and keeps work moving. Rooted in the Toyota Production System developed by Taiichi Ohno and later adapted for knowledge work by David J. Anderson, Kanban is recognised both as a core Lean tool and as a standalone Agile framework used alongside Scrum, SAFe and Scrumban. Over one intensive day, you learn to design Kanban boards, set work in progress (WIP) limits, size kanban loops and read flow metrics such as lead time, cycle time and throughput. This practical, hands-on programme suits professionals across Hong Kong's manufacturing, logistics, banking and technology sectors who want to deliver faster and more predictably. Start building visible, reliable flow with Invensis Learning.

Why Kanban Skills Are in Demand Across Hong Kong

    Delivery Speed Pressure

Banks and fintechs racing to meet the HKMA's Fintech 2025 goals need faster, more predictable delivery. Kanban makes flow visible and cuts lead time across teams.

Kanban builds flow and lead-time skills

    Talent and Capacity Shortage

With technology and financial-services talent scarce, teams are chronically overloaded. WIP limits stop overcommitment and protect delivery when people are stretched.

Kanban builds WIP and capacity skills

    Complex Cross-Border Supply Chains

Greater Bay Area trade and global logistics demand tight, pull-based replenishment. Kanban controls inventory and flow between suppliers, warehouses and production.

    Kanban builds pull replenishment skills

    Multitasking and Context-Switching Waste

Knowledge teams juggle far too much at once, and work stalls between hand-offs. Kanban limits WIP so items are actually finished instead of endlessly started.

Kanban builds focus and flow skills

    Weak Flow Visibility

Leaders often lack a real view of where work is stuck. Kanban boards and flow metrics expose bottlenecks so teams can act on evidence, not guesswork.

Kanban builds board and metrics skills

    Continuous Improvement Expectations

Operations teams are expected to keep cutting waste year after year. Kanban's flow data turns improvement into a measurable, repeatable discipline.

    Manufacturing Kanban and Supermarket Design

Design production and withdrawal kanban, two-bin systems and supermarkets, and calculate kanban quantities and card numbers so pull production stays balanced and lean.

Kanban Board and WIP Limit Design

Build boards with clear stages, swimlanes and classes of service, and set work in progress limits that expose bottlenecks and keep work flowing steadily.

Flow Metrics and the Cumulative Flow Diagram

Measure lead time, cycle time and throughput, apply Little's Law, and read a Cumulative Flow Diagram to forecast delivery and find where work is stuck.

    Scrumban and Agile Delivery

Combine Kanban with Scrum through Scrumban, apply team Kanban within SAFe, and manage flow using digital tools such as Jira, Trello and Azure DevOps.

    Implementing and Sustaining Kanban

Roll out Kanban in manufacturing or knowledge work using a start-with-what-you-do-now approach, then sustain flow and keep improving over time.

Kanban is a visual, pull-based method for managing the flow of work. It uses signals to authorise work only when there is real downstream demand, which removes overproduction, limits work in progress and keeps items moving. It is used in both manufacturing and Agile knowledge work.

Is Kanban training worth it for my career in Hong Kong?

Yes. Kanban skills are valued across Hong Kong's banking, fintech, logistics and technology teams that need faster, more predictable delivery. The method applies to manufacturing and knowledge work alike, so it stays useful whatever role or sector you move into.

Who should attend the Kanban training?

The course suits production and operations managers, engineers, supply chain professionals, Scrum Masters, agile coaches, IT and software managers, project and delivery managers, and anyone responsible for how work flows through a team.

Do I need prior Lean or Agile experience?

No. The training introduces every Kanban concept from first principles, so beginners are welcome. Some familiarity with Lean or production operations is helpful for the manufacturing modules but is not required.

Does the course cover both manufacturing and Agile Kanban?

Yes. It covers manufacturing Kanban from the Toyota Production System, including kanban cards, supermarkets and sizing, and Agile Kanban for knowledge work, including boards, WIP limits, flow metrics and Scrumban.

    Pricing

How much does Kanban training cost in Hong Kong?

Fees vary by delivery format, group size and whether you join a public session or book corporate training. Pricing is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a quote that fits your needs.

What is included in the Kanban course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all Kanban modules, hands-on design exercises, course materials and templates, learner support, and a course completion record from Invensis Learning.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for teams and departments. Ask about group pricing for your organisation.

Are there any fees beyond the training itself?

No. This is a non-certification skills course, so there is no exam or credential fee. You pay only for the training you select. Any optional add-ons are confirmed before you enrol.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Assessment

How is learning assessed during the Kanban training?

There is no formal examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on Kanban design exercises, case-study examples and group discussion throughout the day, so you apply each concept to realistic scenarios as you go.

Will I earn a formal credential from this course?

No. This is a practical, non-certification skills course with no awarding body. You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning and, more importantly, workplace skills you can use straight away.

What will I be able to do after the training?

You will be able to explain push versus pull, design manufacturing kanban loops and supermarkets, calculate kanban quantities, build an Agile Kanban board with WIP limits, measure lead time, cycle time and throughput, and read a Cumulative Flow Diagram.

Are the skills immediately applicable at work?

Yes. Everything is taught for real-world use. Many learners design a board or pull loop for their own workflow during the exercises and put it into practice within days of finishing the programme.

Is Kanban only for software teams?

No. Kanban began on the factory floor and works in manufacturing, logistics, IT service management, operations and any service environment. The course covers both manufacturing and knowledge-work applications.

    Course Content

What topics are covered in the Kanban training?

The programme covers Kanban origins and pull production, manufacturing Kanban types and system design, kanban sizing and implementation, knowledge-work boards and WIP limits, flow metrics and the Cumulative Flow Diagram, and implementing and sustaining Kanban.

What will I learn about Kanban boards and WIP limits?

You learn to design board columns, swimlanes, classes of service and a Definition of Done, then set work in progress limits that expose bottlenecks, encourage finishing over starting, and improve overall flow.

Does the training include flow metrics and the CFD?

Yes. You measure lead time, cycle time and throughput, apply Little's Law, and learn to build and interpret a Cumulative Flow Diagram to forecast delivery and spot where work is accumulating.

Are there hands-on exercises in the course?

Yes. Exercises run throughout, including push versus pull identification, kanban quantity calculation, kanban loop design, Agile board design, WIP limit setting and CFD interpretation using realistic scenarios.

Can a complete beginner take this course?

Yes. There are no prerequisites, and the training builds every concept from the ground up. Beginners and experienced practitioners both gain practical, applicable skills by the end of the day.
