What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

Is the PMI-CP worth it for professionals in Guyana?

Yes. Guyana is investing over US$5 billion across highways, bridges, hotels and energy projects, and employers are short of credentialed construction leaders. The PMI-CP positions you for senior contracts, controls and programme roles and is recognised across borders.

What standard is the PMI-CP based on?

The credential is built on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and its four domains, and is underpinned by the PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition. Contracts Management carries the most weight at 50 per cent, reflecting how central contracts are to construction delivery.

Do I need a PMP before taking the PMI-CP?

No. The PMP is not a prerequisite for the PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two are complementary, with the PMP validating broad project management and the PMI-CP validating construction-specific expertise.

How long is the PMI-CP valid and how is it renewed?

The PMI-CP is valid for three years. You renew it by earning 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each cycle, with a minimum of 8 PDUs in each area. The 56 PDUs from the four prerequisite modules can be applied toward renewal.

PMI bills the exam fee in USD and pricing may vary by region, so confirm the current figure on pmi.org before applying. PMI membership can reduce the exam fee and gives access to PMI resources. The exam fee is not part of the training price.

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats, based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline. It is delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 120 questions and you are allotted 230 minutes, which is 3 hours and 50 minutes. Questions are distributed across the four ECO domains, with Contracts Management the largest at 50 per cent.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-CP?

You must complete all four prerequisite modules and meet one of three experience sets: a secondary diploma with 60 months construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months, each within the past 10 years, plus 35 contact hours of PM education.

What if I do not pass the PMI-CP on the first attempt?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to later attempts. Our mock exams and prep support are designed to help you pass the first time.

Is there a fixed passing score for the PMI-CP?

No. PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing standard rather than a published percentage. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback across Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management and Project Governance.

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The training covers the four PMI-CP domains: Contracts Management (50 per cent), Stakeholder Engagement (30 per cent), Strategy and Scope Management (15 per cent) and Project Governance (5 per cent), plus contract lifecycle, claims, risk, scope, schedule and exam strategy.

Do I need prior experience to take this training?

You can enrol in the training at any stage, though the PMI-CP itself is aimed at experienced construction professionals. If you are moving from site engineering into project management, the programme gives you a structured route into construction delivery.

What learning materials are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware mapped to the four ECO domains, references to the PMI-CP ECO and Handbook, practice questions, mock exams and topic-wise quizzes to build exam readiness and on-the-job capability.

Is the courseware aligned to the current PMI-CP standard?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition, so you prepare against the same content the exam tests.

Will I receive a certificate of completion?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the contact hours earned, which support your PM education requirement for the PMI-CP application.
