Understand Quality Function Deployment from the Ground UpUntitledA Customer-Driven Design Method

The Quality Function Deployment (QFD) Training in Ghana is a one-day, non-certification skills course that teaches you to translate the Voice of the Customer into measurable design and engineering characteristics using the House of Quality matrix. It is a structured, customer-driven method for making sure every design decision traces back to what customers actually need. QFD was developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, with its first formal application at Kobe Shipyard, and is now used across automotive, aerospace, consumer goods, healthcare, financial services and software. You learn the full four-phase model, from product planning through parts deployment, process planning and production planning, so customer requirements drive decisions all the way to the production floor. As Ghana pushes to lift manufacturing to 15% of GDP by 2030 through initiatives such as One District, One Factory, employers increasingly need people who can design quality in rather than inspect it afterwards. This training gives product, quality and design teams that capability and a skill they can put to work immediately.

What You Gain from This QFD CourseFor Your Career and Your Products

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

This QFD training helps product designers, engineers, quality professionals and product managers move from intuition-based design to a structured, customer-driven approach. You learn to capture the Voice of the Customer and translate it into engineering characteristics that teams can actually design to. Whether you work in food and beverage, consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, automotive assembly or services, the House of Quality method gives you a repeatable way to connect customer requirements to design and process decisions.

If you want a practical skill that improves the products you help create and makes you more valuable to employers, QFD is a strong choice. You leave able to run a Voice of the Customer workshop, build a House of Quality, and cascade requirements through the full four-phase model.

    • Turn vague customer needs into clear, measurable design targets
    • Build and interpret a complete House of Quality matrix with confidence
    • Prioritise the design work that drives the most customer satisfaction
    • Spot and resolve design conflicts before they reach costly prototypes

    • Reduce rework and late design changes on your own products
    • Stand out in Ghana's growing manufacturing and product sectors
    For Organizations

    For Organizations

QFD group training helps organisations connect what customers want to how their products and services are designed and delivered. When a cross-functional team learns the method together, design, quality, marketing and production start speaking the same language. The training is especially effective onsite, where your team can build a House of Quality for one of your own real products during the exercises and walk away with immediate value.

For manufacturers and service providers under pressure to raise quality and reduce waste, QFD creates a structured, evidence-based way to prioritise design decisions and design quality in from the start.

Market Pressures Driving Demand for QFD Skills in Ghana

    Products Built on Assumptions

Many products fail in the market because teams design what they think customers want rather than what customers need. QFD closes that gap with structured Voice of the Customer capture.

QFD captures the true Voice of the Customer

    Rising Export Quality Expectations

As Ghanaian manufacturers target regional and export markets, buyers demand tighter quality. QFD gives a documented trail from customer requirement to production control that buyers trust.

    QFD builds requirement traceability

    Costly Late Design Changes

Rework, warranty claims and last-minute redesigns drain margins. QFD surfaces conflicts and priorities early, so problems are solved on paper rather than in expensive prototypes.

    QFD front-loads design decisions

    Few Structured Design Methods

With advanced production technology adoption still low, most teams lack a structured way to plan quality. The House of Quality offers an accessible, tool-based design discipline.

    QFD provides an affordable discipline

    Strategy Not Reaching the Product

Leadership sets quality and growth goals, but they rarely translate into engineering decisions. QFD converts business and customer priorities into weighted, measurable design targets.

QFD links priorities to design targets

    Scarce Voice-Of-Customer Skills

Few professionals in Ghana can facilitate a House of Quality workshop or cascade QFD across four phases. Those who can become valuable to product, quality and NPD teams.

    Trained QFD practitioners stand out

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven method for translating customer requirements, the Voice of the Customer, into specific design and engineering characteristics at every stage of product or service development. Its primary tool is the House of Quality matrix, which links what customers want to how a product is designed.

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven method for translating customer requirements, the Voice of the Customer, into specific design and engineering characteristics at every stage of product or service development. Its primary tool is the House of Quality matrix, which links what customers want to how a product is designed.

The course suits product designers and design engineers, quality engineers, product managers, marketing and R&D professionals, and Six Sigma practitioners. It is ideal for anyone in Ghana's manufacturing, FMCG, pharmaceutical or service sectors who needs to turn customer requirements into design or delivery specifications.

Yes. Although QFD began in manufacturing, the House of Quality applies wherever customer needs must become design or delivery specifications. The course covers applications in services, healthcare, financial services and software, as well as physical product development.

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not required, as the course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles.

Yes. QFD is a practical, immediately applicable skill that few professionals in Ghana hold. As employers push to raise product quality and meet export standards, the ability to run a Voice of the Customer workshop and build a House of Quality helps you stand out for quality, design and NPD roles.

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment (QFD)?

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven method for translating customer requirements, the Voice of the Customer, into specific design and engineering characteristics at every stage of product or service development. Its primary tool is the House of Quality matrix, which links what customers want to how a product is designed.

Who should attend this QFD training in Ghana?

The course suits product designers and design engineers, quality engineers, product managers, marketing and R&D professionals, and Six Sigma practitioners. It is ideal for anyone in Ghana's manufacturing, FMCG, pharmaceutical or service sectors who needs to turn customer requirements into design or delivery specifications.

    Is QFD useful outside manufacturing?

Yes. Although QFD began in manufacturing, the House of Quality applies wherever customer needs must become design or delivery specifications. The course covers applications in services, healthcare, financial services and software, as well as physical product development.

Do I need prior experience to take the course?

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not required, as the course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles.

Is the QFD course worth it for my career?

Yes. QFD is a practical, immediately applicable skill that few professionals in Ghana hold. As employers push to raise product quality and meet export standards, the ability to run a Voice of the Customer workshop and build a House of Quality helps you stand out for quality, design and NPD roles.

    Pricing

How much does the QFD training in Ghana cost?

Fees vary by delivery mode, group size and schedule, so pricing is available on request. Public and corporate options are offered in live online, classroom and onsite formats. Request a quote and a learning advisor will share the current pricing for your preferred format.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led sessions, structured courseware and learning resources, hands-on House of Quality exercises, case studies, learner support and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Ask a learning advisor for the exact inclusions of your chosen format.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for product, quality and cross-functional teams. Contact us for a tailored quote for your organisation.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

Is the course cheaper as online or onsite training?

Pricing depends on format and group size rather than a single fixed rate. Live online training is often the most flexible for individuals, while onsite delivery can be cost-effective for teams. Request a quote to compare the options for your needs.

    Certification

Does the QFD course include an exam or certification?

No. This is a non-certification skills course with no examination and no external awarding body. On completion you receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning that recognises your participation and the skills you have built.

What certificate do I receive after the training?

You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning after finishing the one-day programme. It confirms you have completed practical QFD and House of Quality training, which you can apply directly to product and quality work.

How is learning assessed during the course?

Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, case studies and team activities rather than a formal test. You build and interpret QFD matrices during the training so you leave able to apply the method.

Will QFD skills help with Six Sigma or DFSS work?

Yes. QFD is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma, used in the DMADV Measure phase, and in the DMAIC Define phase to translate the Voice of the Customer into critical-to-quality requirements. The course shows how QFD fits both.

Do the skills expire or need renewal?

No. There is no credential to maintain and no renewal cycle. The QFD and House of Quality skills you learn are immediately applicable and do not expire.

    Course Content

What topics does the QFD training cover?

The one-day programme covers QFD principles and origins, capturing and structuring the Voice of the Customer, building and interpreting the six-room House of Quality, cascading QFD through four phases, and applying QFD in Design for Six Sigma, DMAIC and service design, with hands-on exercises throughout.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It captures customer requirements, engineering characteristics, the relationship between them, a correlation roof showing design conflicts, competitive benchmarking and measurable engineering targets, all anchored to customer priorities.

Will I build a House of Quality during the course?

Yes. You construct and interpret a complete House of Quality from a realistic product or service scenario, including the relationship matrix, correlation roof and engineering targets, so the method sticks through practice.

Does the course cover the Kano model and Voice of the Customer?

Yes. You learn Voice of the Customer collection methods, how to organise requirements with the affinity diagram, and how to classify them with the Kano model into must-be, performance and delighter requirements before building the House of Quality.

Are the four QFD phases covered?

Yes. The course covers the full four-phase model: product planning, parts deployment, process planning and production planning, so you can trace a customer requirement all the way through to production control.

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you would like help choosing a format.
