QFD is a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into measurable design and engineering characteristics. It uses the House of Quality matrix to map what customers want to how the design will deliver it, across product and service development.

Yes. QFD is a practical, transferable skill valued across Canada's automotive, aerospace, electronics, medical-device and service sectors, where product designers, engineers and quality professionals earn strong salaries. It helps you design products customers actually want.

The training suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, marketing and R&D professionals, and Six Sigma Green and Black Belts who translate customer requirements into design or service specifications. It also helps cross-functional product teams.

No. The course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles, so no prior experience is required. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not essential.

The training is grounded in the QFD methodology developed by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, centred on the four-phase QFD system and the House of Quality. It aligns with Design for Six Sigma and ISO 9001:2015 design and development principles.

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment (QFD)?

QFD is a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into measurable design and engineering characteristics. It uses the House of Quality matrix to map what customers want to how the design will deliver it, across product and service development.

Is QFD training worth it for my career?

Yes. QFD is a practical, transferable skill valued across Canada's automotive, aerospace, electronics, medical-device and service sectors, where product designers, engineers and quality professionals earn strong salaries. It helps you design products customers actually want.

Who should attend the QFD training?

The training suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, marketing and R&D professionals, and Six Sigma Green and Black Belts who translate customer requirements into design or service specifications. It also helps cross-functional product teams.

Do I need prior experience to take QFD training?

No. The course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles, so no prior experience is required. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not essential.

What method is the QFD training based on?

The training is grounded in the QFD methodology developed by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, centred on the four-phase QFD system and the House of Quality. It aligns with Design for Six Sigma and ISO 9001:2015 design and development principles.

    Pricing

How much does QFD training cost in Canada?

Pricing varies by delivery mode, such as live virtual, classroom or corporate, and by group size. Individual and corporate options are available on request. Speak with a learning advisor for a current quote for your needs.

What is included in the QFD course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training, structured courseware, hands-on House of Quality exercises, learning resources and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Confirm the exact inclusions when you request a quote.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. Volume-based corporate pricing is available for teams, with customised schedules for product, engineering and quality groups. Ask about corporate or group pricing for a tailored quote.

Are there savings for training a whole team?

Corporate group training is priced by team size and delivery format, and often works out more cost-effective per learner than individual seats. Request a quote for your team to see the options.

How do I pay for the training?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Talk to a learning advisor to choose the payment option that suits you.

    Assessment

Is there a test at the end of the QFD training?

No. QFD training is a practical, skills-based course with no test. Your learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, case studies and team discussion during the one-day programme.

How is my learning assessed during the course?

Learning is assessed informally through hands-on activities: structuring the Voice of the Customer with an affinity diagram, classifying needs with the Kano model, and building and interpreting a full House of Quality matrix from a realistic scenario.

Do I receive anything on completion?

Yes. On completing the programme you receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning, recognising that you have covered the full QFD methodology and House of Quality workshop.

Will I be able to use QFD at work afterwards?

Yes. The skills apply immediately. You leave able to facilitate a Voice of the Customer workshop, build and read a House of Quality, resolve design trade-offs and cascade requirements through parts, process and production planning.

How long is the QFD training?

The programme is delivered in one day (eight hours), covering QFD foundations, the Voice of the Customer, full House of Quality construction, interpretation, four-phase cascading, and QFD in DFSS, DMAIC and service design, with hands-on exercises throughout.

    Course Content

What topics are covered in the QFD training?

The course covers QFD principles and origins, Voice of the Customer capture, the Kano model, full House of Quality construction, interpreting the matrix, four-phase QFD cascading, and applying QFD in Design for Six Sigma, DMAIC and service design.

What will I learn about the House of Quality?

You learn to build all six rooms: customer requirements, engineering characteristics, the relationship matrix, the correlation roof, competitive benchmarking and engineering targets. You also calculate column importance and identify design hot spots.

Are there hands-on exercises in the training?

Yes. Hands-on House of Quality construction runs throughout the day. You structure customer needs with an affinity diagram, classify them with the Kano model, and build and interpret a House of Quality from a realistic product or service scenario.

Does QFD apply to services as well as products?

Yes. While QFD originated in manufacturing, the course covers service applications in healthcare, financial services and IT, as well as software design. The House of Quality applies wherever customer requirements must become design or delivery specifications.

How does QFD fit with Six Sigma?

QFD is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma, used in the DMADV Measure phase to translate the Voice of the Customer into CTQs, and in the DMAIC Define phase to prioritise which requirements to address. The course shows how to apply it in both.
