    Exam

What is the format of the Black Belt exam?

The IASSC Lean Six Sigma Black Belt exam is a closed-book, 150-question multiple-choice examination. A reference document with formulas and tables is provided. It is delivered online with proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 150 scored multiple-choice questions, with up to 15 additional unscored questions on some forms. You have four hours (240 minutes) to complete it, and some candidates qualify for extra time.

What is the passing score for the Black Belt exam?

You need a minimum of 580 points out of 750 to pass. Questions span all five DMAIC phases, so broad mastery across Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control is important.

What is the exam application process?

There is no formal application or eligibility review. You purchase the Black Belt exam voucher from the official IASSC ordering site, choose online proctored or test-centre delivery, then schedule and sit the exam. An optional readiness self-check is available before you book.

What if I do not pass the first time?

You can retake the exam by purchasing another voucher. Our training includes mock exams, practice questions and revision support to help you prepare thoroughly and approach any retake with confidence.

Is the exam based on the latest syllabus?

Yes. Training is aligned to the current Black Belt Body of Knowledge, structured around the five DMAIC phases, so you prepare against the standard the exam actually tests.

    Course Content

What topics does the Black Belt training cover?

The training covers all five DMAIC phases: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. You learn advanced statistics, hypothesis testing, regression, Design of Experiments, Lean tools and Statistical Process Control.

Can a beginner take the Black Belt course?

The Black Belt is an advanced level, so some quality or process experience helps, but there are no formal prerequisites. The training builds from core concepts to advanced statistics, with trainer support throughout.

    What learning resources are provided?

You receive structured courseware, practice questions, mock exams, statistical exercises, templates and revision aids mapped to the five DMAIC phases.

Are there practice tests and mock exams?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams that mirror the 150-question, four-hour format to help you identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

    How is the training delivered?

Training is delivered as live virtual instructor-led sessions over 40 hours, with self-paced and corporate options also available. Sessions include real-world case studies and hands-on statistical practice.
