Why Customer-Driven Design Is in Demand in the Bahamas

    A Narrow Manufacturing Base

Manufacturing and agriculture together make up under 7% of Bahamian GDP. Growing them means designing products customers choose, exactly what QFD structures.

    QFD builds customer-driven design skills

    Diversifying Beyond Tourism

The government is backing light manufacturing, agri-processing, fisheries and technology. New products and services need customer requirements built in from the start.

QFD builds Voice of the Customer skills

    Competing with Imports

Local producers compete against established imports. QFD helps design goods that match what Bahamian customers value, not just what is easy to make.

    QFD builds requirement-to-design skills

    Food Security and Agri-Processing

A B$35M food-security push, including egg processing and new facilities, calls for products designed around real consumer needs and quality standards.

    QFD builds quality-planning skills

    Quality in a Service Economy

Tourism and financial services live on service quality. QFD extends the House of Quality to service design, turning guest and client needs into delivery standards.

    QFD extends to service design

    Scarce Quality and Design Talent

The islands have a small pool of quality and design specialists. Professionals who can run a House of Quality workshop stand out to local employers.

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment (QFD)?

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and design characteristics. It uses the House of Quality matrix to link what customers want to how a product or service is designed and built.

Who should attend QFD training in the Bahamas?

The training suits product designers and engineers, quality engineers, product and marketing managers, R&D and new-product-development professionals, and Six Sigma practitioners. Anyone who translates customer needs into product or service specifications will benefit.

    Is QFD training worth it?

Yes. QFD gives you a repeatable way to design products and services customers actually want, reducing rework and late changes. The skills apply immediately across manufacturing, services and process improvement, and are valued by employers diversifying the Bahamian economy.

Do I need prior experience or qualifications?

No. The course has no prerequisites and introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management helps but is not required.

    Is QFD used outside manufacturing?

Yes. Although QFD began in manufacturing, it applies to services such as healthcare, financial services and hospitality, and to software. The House of Quality works wherever customer requirements must become design or delivery specifications.

    Pricing

How much does QFD training cost in the Bahamas?

Pricing depends on the delivery format, whether live virtual, classroom or corporate, and on group size. Fees are available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a quote tailored to your needs.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all six QFD modules, House of Quality exercises, course materials and templates, and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Request a quote to confirm inclusions for your chosen format.

Do you offer group or corporate rates?

Yes. Corporate group training is available with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for teams. Ask about corporate and group pricing for your organisation.

Is there any separate fee beyond the training?

No. As a non-certification course, QFD training has no examination or awarding-body fee. You pay only the training fee for your selected format.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose what suits you.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for QFD training?

No. QFD training is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, case studies and team discussion during the one-day programme.

    Do I receive a certificate?

Yes. You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. There is no separate credential from an external awarding body; the value is the practical QFD and House of Quality skills you gain.

    How is my learning assessed?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you build and interpret QFD matrices through guided, hands-on exercises, so you can apply the House of Quality to your own products or services straight away.

Is the course tied to a governing body?

QFD is an established methodology with no single governing body, so the training is not tied to an external accreditation. It is grounded in the recognised QFD methodology developed by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno.

Will QFD skills help with Six Sigma work?

Yes. QFD is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma (DMADV Measure phase) and in DMAIC (Define phase). The training helps Green Belt and Black Belt practitioners translate the Voice of the Customer into CTQs.

    Course Content

What topics does the QFD training cover?

The one-day programme covers QFD foundations and the business case, Voice of the Customer capture, building and interpreting the House of Quality, four-phase QFD cascading, and QFD in Six Sigma, services and software, with hands-on exercises throughout.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It links customer requirements to measurable engineering characteristics, shows the strength of each relationship, flags design conflicts in the roof, benchmarks competitors and sets engineering targets.

    Is the training hands-on?

Yes. You build a full House of Quality from a realistic scenario, structure the Voice of the Customer with an affinity diagram, apply the Kano model and calculate column importance, so you leave able to run QFD on your own projects.

How long is the QFD course?

The course runs for one day (eight hours), covering all six QFD modules with concept explanations, real-world examples and House of Quality exercises. It is also available as two half-day sessions.

    What materials do I get?

You receive structured course materials, House of Quality templates and worked examples you can reuse in your own product and service projects.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in QFD training?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment and you will receive access to schedules, course materials and joining details. Talk to a learning advisor if you need help choosing.

    What training formats are available?

QFD training is available online as live virtual instructor-led sessions, as in-person classroom training, and as customised corporate group training delivered onsite or online across the Bahamas.

    How soon can I start?

New sessions run regularly across live virtual and classroom formats. See upcoming schedules or ask a learning advisor about the next available dates that fit your team.

Can you train my whole team?

Yes. Corporate group training brings a cross-functional product or quality team together to build a House of Quality for one of your own products, creating immediate value. Ask about corporate options for your organisation.
