    What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

    The PMI-CP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination with single-answer and multiple-answer questions, based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO). It is delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

    How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

    The exam has 120 questions and an allotted time of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It is scenario-based, testing your ability to apply construction project management tools and techniques rather than pure recall.

    What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

    The exam covers four domains per the official ECO: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). Contracts Management is by far the largest, reflecting its central role in construction delivery.

    What are the prerequisites for the PMI-CP exam?

    You must complete all four self-paced prerequisite modules (Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management) and meet one experience set: 60, 36 or 24 months of construction project management experience depending on your education, plus 35 contact hours of PM education.

    What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

    PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

    What if I do not pass, can I retake the exam?

    Does this training satisfy the PMI-CP education prerequisite?

    The instructor-led programme provides 32 contact hours, which is close to but below the 35 contact hours of project management education PMI requires. Check with our advisors whether supplementary self-study or pre-reading is credited toward the 35-hour requirement for your application.

    Is the courseware aligned to the current PMI-CP ECO?

    Do I need the PMP before taking PMI-CP?

    No. PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-CP. You can apply directly based on your construction project management experience and education. The two credentials are complementary, with PMP covering general project management and PMI-CP covering construction-specific expertise.

    Anyone can enrol in the training. To sit the exam, PMI requires completion of the four prerequisite modules plus construction project management experience (24 to 60 months depending on your education) and 35 contact hours of PM education, all within the past 10 years.
